Letchworth Village Cemetery | New York

From 1914 through 1967, residents who died at Letchworth Village and whose remains were not claimed by their families were buried at a clearing in the forest a short distance off Call Hollow Road in Stony Point, New York, about a mile away from the 2,000-acre main facility campus, and hidden from the road by trees. The cemetery is presently owned and maintained by the town of Stony Point, along with volunteers from the community.
The decedents' graves were marked only with T-shaped, numbered steel markers. Families were allowed to erect headstones at their own expense, but as of this edit in August of 2021, most of the graves are still marked only by the numbered steel markers.
Remarkably few of the markers or stones have been vandalized. On the contrary, some of the graves, especially those of children, are regularly visited by members of the community who leave stones, flowers, or other items in remembrance of the deceased.
There also is a large memorial stone at the entrance of the cemetery, erected in 2007, with a plaque bearing the names of those buried there. The names are not keyed to the numbered graves. Many stones, small toys, and other items are left on the stone in remembrance of those buried there.
In 1967, a new cemetery was opened near Thiells Mount Ivy Road in Thiells, New York. The bodies of those buried at the old cemetery were not moved.

They say that beauty is in the eye of the beholder. What may seem an eyesore to one person, just might be a beautiful masterpiece to another. There are places beloved by communities and protected in the hearts of those that hold their memories of its tattered hallways and decayed rooms dear. This is the way that we feel when we explore places that have been forgotten by time. Left to rot and decay and only holding the silent whispers of what once was. We know that there are people out there with malicious intent toward these places that we venture into. It saddens us when we see the filth and destruction they leave behind, but we want to make something very clear… We are explorers and lovers of history. We in no way, shape or form condone the criminal activities that take place in the historical decaying places that we document. Social media has brought many of these places to the limelight, but the intention is to show the beauty and mystery of abandonment. Not to invite trouble. Trouble will find its way on its own and to say that the peaceful documentation of these places leads to criminal activity, is mind blowing. We have met so many amazing fellow explorers in our travels and are so thankful and humbled by the positive responses we have received. We know that this type of exploration is not for everyone…many people don’t understand why we find such beauty in decay, we can only explain it as a beautiful journey into the past. We invite you to watch our explores and come along as we visit these amazing places. As for the criminal activity that occurs, those individuals are responsible for their own actions. It is a terrible part of our society, but reality, nonetheless. Thank you for taking the time to read this and for loving this location just as much as we do. We hope that through this video, the memories held within will remain.

How beautiful Guys! Thank you for taking us along on this very serene tribute. SWSH, more commonly known as "The Hill" is here and still in operation, but only in newly built areas. The old buildings still stand in testament of what you've reminded us of. Behind the old facility is one such graveyard, which I would visit while doing my clinicals in Nursing School. The graves are numbered, but there is a large monument that displays " The Forget Me Nots known only unto Heaven". It always made me cry...and reflect. It made me a better Nurse....and person! Thank you!! Smooches!!♥️

I originally stumbled upon a Video from someone else who told a short story bout Letchworth. I then decided to investigate it more. The story bout these Unforgotten Souls was inhumane. I Love ❤ how you Honor the People in your Video. It's Very Respectful to The Lost Souls who should've Never been Forgotten. Why so long to Honor them makes No Sense to me.

It’s so strange, but we feel a strong attachment to the souls who were at Letchworth. When we are at this cemetery, we always feel such sadness for those that were buried there for no regard to who they were as people. @@JMExplorations My Mom & me used to go visit different Cemetaries. Some where Relatives are whereas others just cause their Unique. The one in Beaufort, NC North Carolina has a Unique History to it. As for Letchworth... I thought being a number even tho it's a gravesite... Reminds me of people being numbered in Concentration Camps & Forgotton. Stories like this Should be Told & Never Forgotton. History has a way of Repeating itself by Neglect of Forgetfullnes or Ignorance. Btw... It reminds me of how my Dad got sick from an Ear Infection then things went for the worse. So I Feel for these people & the lack of Respect they so Deserved. ❤
