As a martial artist, this movie holds a special place in my heart because it introduced the American public to Gracie jiu-jitsu which went on to dominate the early days of the UFC. It also introduced the controversial martial known as Jailhouse Rock which was purportedly developed by prison inmates for defending themselves against surprise attacks within an enclosed space. Unlike traditional martial arts which treated hand-to-hand combat like a duel in which combatants started by squaring off against each other, JHR treated hand-to-hand combat as a fight for survival against an unexpected ambush, and it gained a fair amount of attention in the self defense community in the late eighties/early nineties.

When they blink like that they are flinching and anticipating the sound and jerk of the weapon which is not good. Real marksman don't flinch like that when shooting. 😊 The jokes always felt organic and not forced because both being exmilitary, soldiers tend to have a dark sense of humor during tense situations.

Yeah, when you are used to firearms you can control your blinking. You sight with both eyes open and hold both breath and eyes-open until after the shot (shots if semi-automatic/controlled burst/tightly timed single round) and then choose to blink after a slight pause, repeat as needed and at what speed based on rate/style/target details). Different handling of full-automatic weapons, of course. But yeah, firing common-use civilian or military weapons that aren't full-automatic it's both-eyes sighting with conscious breath and blink control.

"There's gonna be _so_ much _paperwork_ to do." Yeah. Time was, we, as a society, understood that was a fundamental part of _law_ enforcement. You want to wear a _badge?_ You've got to be comfortable behind the _desk._ You've got to be comfortable doing _paperwork._ That was an indispensable part of the _job._

Title for Matthew: Master of the pick n' flick. (Because he picks the movies, and you watch them...and that title makes me giggle) As much as I like Lethal Weapon 1, I think the sequels are just as good...or better. I think they're all great. Definitely recommend watching them all.

Roger's house is on the Warner Ranch in Burbank, hence the cat name. I believe it's next to the Christmas Vacation house. The Christmas tree drug dealer who lives is the father of Anthony Kiedis singer of the Red Hot Chili Peppers. Danny Glover was 40 and Mel was 30. He would've been 13 in 1969. I've seen the house explode so many times, you can be ready for it at it explodes at the second the airplane reaches the fireplace. Gary Busey playing crazy before we learned it wasn't an act. I consider this a Christmas movie. Die Hard is as well. Christmas is more involved in Die Hard as Bruce was only there because of Christmas. This just happened then. Check out Better Off Dead for another great "Christmas movie."

Yes, Roger's house is the same house where Julia Louis-Dreyfus's character lived in Christmas Vacation, next to the Griswolds. That should push Lethal Weapon over the edge where it's considered a Christmas movie. :)

The long kiss goodnight is fantastic, it has a speech about a CIA false flag operation to blow up the world trade centre, and blame it on the Muslims, so that they get a budget increase. It was made in the early 90’s

I believe that this is a Christmas movie just like It's a Wonderful Life. Riggs' character is comparable to George Bailey in that movie. They both felt they had no reason to live and were intent on killing themselves until guardian angels came into their lives. Murtaugh ends up being Riggs' guardian angel and he has a reason to live when he feels like a part of Murtaugh's family.

With regards to actors firing guns without blinking, I understand that actors do get told to try and avoid blinking. It is far less visually distracting if a person can manage to unload without blinking like mad every time the gun goes off. Strangely enough, actors not normally associated with action seem to do a lot better at not blinking than those that are!

Not sure if your limiting yourselves to the 80's, but if not try - Glory: Story of first black regiment in civil war. Matthew Broderick, Denzel Washington, Morgan Freeman - Tombstone: Telling of the gunfight and events surrounding. Kurt Russell, Sam Elliot, Val Kilmer steals the show as Doc Holliday

Love your videos! For the record, Shane Black only really wrote this Lethal Weapon (his script for Part 2 was changed greatly and he really had nothing to do with 3 & 4), plus, if it helps, I´m actually a friend of Steven de Souza, who wrote Die Hard, and he maintains 100% that it is a Christmas movie! Keep up the good work!
