As others have pointed out, the psychologist explained that his wife of eleven years had died in a car accident six months prior. You may have missed it, it happens rather quickly. Another noteworthy thing about Lethal Weapon that most people miss - the nature of the soundtrack. Whenever you hear that lone blues guitar riff that sounds Clapton-Esque? The guitar plays whenever it's a scene about Riggs or when there's a focus on his character. What about Murtaugh? You'll notice Murtaugh is always scored by a saxophone. In their respective scenes before they meet, they'll only have their 'own' instruments playing, but by the time they start working together (like the pool house scene), the instruments start playing in a duet, playing together. Framing all of this, the string section frames the narrative and adds necessary suspense in action scenes. And that's why the soundtrack for Lethal Weapon is a freaking masterpiece. Thank Michael Kamen and Eric Clapton for that!

Im not sure if Mel and Danny were the first "mixed colour" duo on the big screen together, but hands down i have to say: They are the best to have ever done it! And they went on to make 3 more, theyr chemistry on and off the set is just that good. You can tell if you look up "Tribute to Richard Donner - Riggs and Murtaugh Reunite",alot of years later. You can tell that Mel and Danny both has gotten alot older, but the chemistry is still there. They just pick it up where they left it off in the movies. Mom adored Mel Gibson and the main reason was theese movies, thats also where she learned to know Danny Glover better and she loved him too. She went on to buy all theyr movies on VHS. Long live her memory. Cancer sadly took her away before she had gotten halfway in life. She was the reason why i discovered Mel Gibson,Danny Glover and the entire cast myself. Now whenever people say "Im too old for this sh**!",you know where they got it from🤣 And the best thing is,theyr families and such, everyone that is expected to stick with them in the other movies keeps rejoining the movies, thats how you know they created one of a kind chemistry with everybody on set. Its so common that people will jump off movies like that, especially if it turns out into such a long franchise. This one was from 1987,Lethal Weapon 4 released in 1998. Noone that didnt die in the movies decided to jump off the franchise. I wont say anything that can be more specific,as it will ruin the viewing experience, and that will just ruin reactions altogether. All im saying is,what you really hope is continuing to be a thing from this first one, they embraced and brought with them in the other movies. Both positive and sad. You 2 are in for a treat with the remaining 3 titles. And like mom said: several of the Lethal Weapon movies are also christmas movies,i dont care what other people say. We get somewhat of a pointer at the end here, where Murtaugh comes running out to invite Riggs in on some of that "lousiest christmas turkey ever" hahaha. You 2 eagerly wanted to know what happened to Riggs, thats why there are 4 movies with them. You get to know more and more for each movie you watch. Absolute genius little franchise right here. Besides typical 1 man franchises like Rambo,i dont think there is any "duo partner" movies out there that made it to 4 movies, most i can remember at the top of my head ended on 2 or 3 movies at the max. Then im thinking of Rush Hour with Jackie Chan and Chris Tucker as the closest franchise. Been some ongoing rumours of Rush Hour 4 being in the works for the last 7 years,so noone really took it serious anymore as the years went on,BUT late last year Jackie Chan told us this in early December: "The movie, which has been rumoured to be in the works for at least seven years, is now officially happening - and it has a script." But for now,Lethal Weapon is in a league of its own. And nomatter how Rush Hour 4 will do,i still think Lethal Weapon 1,2,3 and 4 are in a league of theyr own. So many actors tried to copy Riggs and Murtaugh in other movies, but somehow they didnt manage to create that chemistry Mel and Danny has (not hating on the duos that tried,i enjoyed theyr movies for what they brought, but it wasnt close to Lethal Weapon) I also like how they heighten any peoples performance in the movie, like how Danny Glover talked to the kid eye withness, how Mel Gibson approached the suicidal guy early on and so on. Often i dont buy into people trying to act out a "loose cannon",but as mom described it: Mel Gibson is scary good as being suicidal. We both bought into it right away, and we went on to watch the movies over like....pheew,im sure we saw them close to 20-30 times lol. I lost track on how many times we ran out of movies to watch together, and were like "Lets watch lethal weapon, its been awhile!". They are simply ..... THAT GOOD! Funfact: I crushed abit on Traci Wolfe back then playing as Rianne Murtaugh, the teen daughter. Another funfact: She was 27 years old in this movie,so basically her genes are off the chain, she really had me fooled for a teenager. Okay,a third funfact: When she got the confirmation that she would star opposite Mel Gibson in this movie, she cried of joy. Just an overall lovable sweetheart.

Here are 4 films with an engaging duo of main leads: 1) "The Rock" with Nicholas Cage and Sean Connery has an interesting team dynamic with the science geek and a convict trying to recapture Alcatraz. Ed Harris plays the antagonist. And his speeches and reasons for the choices he's made are some of the most engaging I've ever seen. 2). "Airforce One" has Harrison Ford playing the president of the United States. And he's trying to rescue everyone from the terrorists who have taken control of Airforce One. Gary Coleman gives his all as the leader of the terrorists. 3) In "The Negotiator" Kevin Spacey's dialogues with Samuel L. Jackson are very engaging he's the negotiator, trying to talk down what he believes to be a crooked cop holding hostages. 4) And in "The Patriot" Mel Gibson, again does a fantastic job as a father and reluctant soldier. And so does Heath Ledger, as his duty driven son.

The 1st and the 2nd Lethal Weapons are magic. Danny Glover and Mel Gibson are just perfect together. Danny playing the straight man and Mel playing the wild man, it just works so well. Joe Pesci's addition in the 2nd one was really good, but after that it started to feel bloated.

In lethal weapon 2 they explain his wife's death little more in detail. All four movies are great. The fifth movie might be out this year or start of next year.

I love watching your reactions so much - I'm so glad I found your channel! One thing that cracks me up is that when Asia leans back and covers her eyes, BJ leans forward and watches so intently, lol. Totally opposite.

I met Danny Glover and shook hands with him in early 2002 on Pine St. in San Francisco. Very nice guy. I saw him again in 09 at the Oakland Whole Foods Market but I left him alone that time. He's a bay area native.

This era of movies was so good! It's all backed on directing/acting, wardrobe and special effects, no cgi.

Never thought about it before, but if Mr. Joshua had escaped instead of going to Murtaugh's house, he probably would have gotten away..

Riggs' "craziness" is what makes him so lethal outside of the fact that he's such a trained fighter. Now you have 3 more to go and the 2nd movie will answer your "what happened to his wife" question.

Rogers wife in the movie, was a back up singer for some of the biggest groups in the 60's and 70's. She just made it to the RNR hall of fame
