Joe Pesci was such a good addition and added so much comedic entertainment, his constant ok’s were so hilarious. Danny Glovers reaction to the condom commercial was so funny, especially to poor George….’George, I got a gun’…the most heart wrenching scene was Riggs finding out not only that his wife was murdered but how in detail. A great movie and my favorite out of the 4.

What you mentioned about that family feeling when they watched the commercial is what makes 3 and 4 worth watching!! It's really the heart of the series, and the family grows each film! The reason I like these films is because from 1 through 4 you see Murtock and Rigs create family bonds throughout these movies. More people join their family and it's just beautiful to see. You will love 3 and 4. As the audience, we also join in the family. As you said, that you felt like you were on the couch with them. That's how these films makes me feel. That I am part of the family as well.

To be honest, I found the villain in Part 3 to be kinda weak. The overall story was pretty good, but it had just a very lacklustre villain. In the first movie, the bad guys were all former CIA, military special forces, and mercenaries. A real challenge. In the second movie the challenge was the fact that the villains all had diplomatic immunity and couldn’t be touched legally. But the main bad guy in Part 3? I couldn’t see him putting up much of a fight in a one on one confrontation with Riggs. Heck, I don’t think he’d give Murtaugh much of a challenge. I wouldn’t go so far as to say Part 3 is terrible. But in my opinion it is the weakest out of the four.

The feeling of "family" is exactly why this is my favorite movie series of all. All of the actors who play the parts from main characters to supporting players come back for each installment. Murtaugh's family are the same actors throughout the whole franchise. The police captain, the psychologist, the cops who didnt die in this film all come back for further entries. On a side note watching the films throughout the years as they have been released allow us fans to grow up with all the characters and have years to enjoy one before the next one would come out. So seeing a bad film in this franchise is difficult for me and Im sure for other fans. I agree with many comments on this video. The films do get a little sillier as time goes on but there are no bad entries in my opinion. Fun Fact: Darlene Love, who plays Trish is a wonderful singer and had loads of great songs. Especially "Christmas (Baby Please Come Home) which was featured in the opening credits of the movie, "Gremlins".

Die Hard falls into the “lone-hero saves the day” genre, while Lethal Weapon popularized the “buddy-cop” genre where two radically-different people are forced to work together (and learn to respect each other despite their differences). As for which is better: it really just depends on whatever mood you might find yourself in on any given day.

I think you should continue the Lethal Weapon movies. 3 is a mixed bag but it introduces a new character that is fantastic and 4 is a ton of fun (I think other people look at them the other way around, but in my opinion, the villain makes 3 weaker than 4). Some people might feel the series sells out a little because they're not quite as intense as these first two (the last one could almost be a PG-13 instead of an R), but they're all funny and well-made. I like the fourth Die Hard movie well enough but I think Lethal Weapon 4 is a better LW sequel than Live Free or Die Hard is a DH sequel, and Die Hard has a fifth entry that is simply indefensible. Overall, I think Die Hard and Die Hard With a Vengeance (3) are better than the best LW movie, but LW has the better overall batting average because they're more consistent.

This movie was a lot of fun. I worked at a movie theater when it came out. We had it playing in several theaters running 45 minutes to an hour apart and people would come in running late for the start and think they were misdirected to the wrong one and we'd tell them "No. No, you're in the right one. The movie starts in the middle of a car chase."

Usually most bullion coins are one Troy ounce (31.1035 g), and other famous coins such as the Canadian Maple leaf, weigh exactly that much, and are considered pure 24 carat gold (99.99%). Pure gold is, however, rather soft, and bending a coin would destroy it's numismatic value. What is interesting about the Krugerrand, however, is that it is slightly heavier and not as pure - it weighs 33.93 grams, and is made of 1 Troy ounce of pure gold and copper (91.67% gold and 8.33% copper) to increase its durability and thus to make it easier to transport in large quantities. The copper content also gives it a pink-ish shade, similar to that of pink gold.
@larrybremer4930
@larrybremer4930 2 жыл бұрын
A Kruger Rand is simply a South African Gold Coin, just like the ones you can buy in the US where its value is for the metal content (1 Troy oz of .999 fine) of Silver, Gold, or Platinum rather than a stamped denomination. The ones shown in LW2 are Gold.

3:48 Technically, it’s Afrikaans, which is based on Dutch. 6:06 The old-timey term is “faxed.” 6:10 As other commenters have said, the word is “krugerrand.” The South Africa’s “dollar” is the “rand,” and because South Africa has such huge gold deposits, they minted a special version of a “dollar coin” with an ounce of gold in it (making it actually worth hundreds of dollars). At the time this movie was made, bringing many South African goods, including krugerrand, into the US was banned in protest of the South African government’s racist policies. 15:51 The Triangle Trade is a big deal in pre-Revolutionary American history. One movie that would educate you a lot on this is the musical “1776.” 21:43 That’s actually stolen from Charlie Chaplin. Look up his movie “The Great Dictator.”

At the time this movie was made, the South African government was still white only; the infamous apartheid policy. That's why the aide was so shocked to see Murtaugh was black. There were two distinct channels of immigration. The Dutch were the first wave of settlers in the early 1600s, and later the British took possession. The Afrikaans language is based on Dutch & English. Charlize Theron is South African.

I so identify with Ash, because when I first saw this in the theater, they whipped through the police killings so quickly that I thought "What? They just shot Roger while he was exercising? What?" But no, it was another black officer named Wyler who we'd never met before. Speaking of identities, the blonde psychologist in both Lethal Weapon movies is played by Mary Ellen Trainor, who we also glimpsed as a TV newscaster in the first Die Hard. There is, I think, a much better movie that deals with South Africa's history of apartheid, a 1975 adventure starring Michael Caine and Sidney Poitier called The Wilby Conspiracy. I always appreciate seeing an old favorite through fresh eyes, Ash, thanks much.

The main things I remember about this movie: * Patsy Kensit's nude scene was awesome. * The rubbers commercial and the running gag. * The moment where Murtaugh grabs a tiny wad of cash from the huge pallets of money and realizes it's his daughter's entire college education in his hand, and Riggs tells him to just take it. Not that they're dirty cops, but it really wouldn't be missed. It's a great character moment for Murtaugh. * National Lampoon's "Loaded Weapon 1" could now be on your viewing list, because a lot of the gags are based on this movie.

Hi Ashleigh. Actually, out of all the unlikely to be realistic stuff that happened in this film, the most ridiculous was the toilet getting launched out the house by a bomb in 1 piece to land on the cop car. Toilets are made out of porcelain and are very easy to crack and shatter. As a toilet is bolted down to the floor with 2 large nuts and bolts, there is absolutely no possible way it didn't explode into powder when the bomb went off!

Supreme sequel. Big step up from LW1. More of the storylines and characters become connective down the road. Joe Pesci is without a doubt, one of the greatest versatile actors ever and as Leo Getz, this is his funniest role. Michael Kamen's score with Dave Sanborn on saxophone and rock legend Eric Clapton on guitar is still a great collab. These first 2 films do solidify an important arc of the franchise (Director's cuts exist). Riggs & Murtaugh with their bond as friends and cops is unquestionable as it is a lifelong team effort. Btw, in an alternate ending....... Rika (Patsy Kensit), Riggs' love interest actually lived.

"is there some history things i'm missing?" YES. BIG THINGS. at this time is south africa apartheid was still in effect which was was a system of institutionalized racial segregation. The whites were in power and black people were second class citizens with little rights. If you've heard the name Nelson Mandela he was a huge anti-apartheid activist which was illegal i believe since anti-apartheid activist were considered anti-establishment terrorist and was was the country's first black head of state when apartheid was finally abolished. They call black folk kaffer a few times in this movie which is a derogatory term for black people in Afrikaans like the N word.

The end of apartheid was also a genuine cause for director Richard Donner, which is why he put it in the movie. In fact, if you go back to the original Lethal Weapon, the Murtaugh family already has a sticker on their refrigerator that says "End Apartheid Now" on it.

Where this movie ends is actually in the harbor, likely on a tiny island called Terminal Island. The bridge that connect San Pedro to Terminal Island is the Vincent Thomas bridge, its BIG and green, cant miss it. Its been used in many many shows and films over the decades. In 2012, sadly, director Tony Scott jumped from the Vincent Thomas bridge. RIP Tony Scott

So you mentioned not knowing about the situation in South Africa, but, another sign that this movie was from a completely different time was that in 1989, condom ads were not allowed on network TV. That was a line that wasn't crossed until Fox aired a condom ad in 1991, and even then, they weren't allowed to advertise them as preventing pregnancies, only as offering protection from STDs. So an audience seeing this movie when it came out would have viewed the scene with Rianne's commercial as satirical, showing something that didn't happen in real life (yet).

IMO LW 2 is the best in the franchise. You need 1 to introduce the characters, most notably the eponymous character, Riggs, a former member of the Special Forces, aka a "lethal weapon" At the end of LW1, Riggs has mellowed somewhat. He is still crazy but not suicidal because he gives up the one bullet he had been contemplating using on himself since his wife's death. LW2 brings a friendlier (still crazy) Riggs. With the characters established, we get to peek in on the bromance, It's good cop vs. crazy cop, id vs. ego. Each one completes the other. Riggs even begins courting a female ... until she's killed. Then we witness Riggs revert back to his destructive tendencies. And we are both scared and thrilled. Now it's personal. He may die but he will bring down his victims before doing so. Gritty, adrenaline rushing. LW 2 got it right.

Love your reactions Ashleigh. Regarding the political angle you were not aware of. Up until the 90's South Africa had a political system called Apartheid which actively discriminated against black people. So, when this film was released we had instantly hateable bad guys. You will have heard the Apartheid's version of the "N" word used when Murtaugh was assaulted in his house. the word is spelled K-A-F-F-A and Murtaugh used a play on this word at the end when he said "de-kaffanated". jut read up on Apartheid and you will be truly shocked. It's strange considering America's own history up to the sixties that the history of Apartheid was not taught in schools. Anyway I love your channel and your energetic reactions. Lethal Weapon 3 is awesome. So is Die Hard 3.

@@awkwardashleigh Yeah, he went a bit off the rails in like the mid or late 2000s. I think he went on a tirade while drunk and he had a separate incident with his wife/gf as well. He's tried to clean up his act with various degrees of welcome in Hollywood. Some people like Sly Stallone gave him a second chance (For background: Stallone was in the process of creating his Expendables trilogy which took a collection of current day and old school action stars--think Arnold, Jean Claude Van Damm, Mel, Bruce Willis, Harrison Ford, Chris Hemsworth's brother, Jet Li, etc--and shined the spotlight on them.) while others did not--the Hangover cast REFUSED to make Hangover 2 if the production kept his planned cameo intact...and the cameo was recast. I think he is still pretty much blackballed from mainstream Hollywood. It was a sad fall from grace for Mel who was very much beloved until these outbursts. But he brought it on himself.
