MUAY THAI is widely regarded as one of the world's premier martial arts, yet in many bouts against LETHWEI fighters from Myanmar, Thai fighters often face defeat, prompting ongoing debate over which discipline reigns supreme. Numerous matchups between MUAY THAI and LETHWEI can be found and analyzed on KZbin.

Muay Thai is a more sophisticated art than Lethwei, in my opinion. The absence of head strikes in modern sports Muay Thai does not make it any weaker. I think a lot of Thai boxers are skilled at head and counter punches. Reading excerpts from the history of the centuries-old confrontation between these types of martial arts, I found that it was the representatives of Muay Thai who defeated the Burmese fighters. But perhaps these stories were written by Thais.
@popskyi19 ай бұрын
@@shastjemojo there is always a local match at the Thai and Myanmar border and there are some videos on youtube as well. These Karen fighters are born tougher and Letwei starts since their childhood. No doubt, many Thai fighter, they have many mixed blood of Thai and Karen too since many Karen people live in Chiang Mai

Soe Lin Oo is a real man of steel. In Myanmar we call him Than Ma Ni Soe Lin Oo. The word is same as Man of Steel Soe Lin Oo.
@Bando.Lethwei6 ай бұрын
Congratulations to Soe Lin Oo for putting Myanmar back on the world map. For those new to Lethwei, here are some basics you might love to know: Pronunciation: Many people mistakenly pronounce it as "leth (tha) wei," but the correct pronunciation is "Let + hwei." It can be said as "Lek (Let) + Hwei (Whayte)," meaning boxing in the Myanmar language. Origin: Lethwei, also known as Burmese Boxing, originated in Myanmar (formerly known as Burma). Unique Features: Unlike most combat sports, headbutts are an essential weapon in a Lethwei fighter's arsenal, earning it the name "The Art of Nine Limbs." Lethwei fighters don't use gloves, only hand wraps, which is why it's also known as Bare-Knuckle Burmese Boxing. History: Lethwei dates back to ancient times when martial arts were used to protect and defend Myanmar’s borders. Traditional bouts had no scoring system and continued until an athlete surrendered, was knocked out, or could not continue due to injury. Athleticism and technique were important, but toughness and perseverance were celebrated. Traditions: Lethwei shadow and victory dances are called Lethwei Yay, which usually start with Lek Kha Moun (the challenge gesture, a symbol, and trademark of Lethwei). Despite many ups and downs, the sport has survived thanks to passionate fans and athletes who have carried on the tradition. Thanks to ONE Championship, the dying art of Lethwei is being reborn in foreign lands and gaining media attention. Some of you may know that Myanmar has suffered from nearly a century of civil wars since gaining independence from the British. For decades, Lethwei barely survived within Myanmar. Now, with the country largely united in resistance against the military regime, there is hope that the people will soon prevail.
