God bless Ian. Guy's rant is a little whack-a-doo. McKaye is smart enough to realize who they're playing to - an impressionable group of young people- and tailors his thoughts as such.

I’ve always loved how Ian and Guy talk to the crowd. When I was a student at NYU they played a show at the student union. Security kept freaking out whenever fans started to mosh and the band had to ask us to stop. Guy told us, “look everyone, you can’t look like you’re fighting when you dance. They just won’t let us play otherwise. YOU KNOW, AND WE KNOW, BUT THEY DON’T KNOW.”

I was walking down King St past this gig on the night and thinking: Jeez, a lot of punks about! Newtown at the time was an interesting balance of sub-cultures...but a gig like this would tip the balance occasionally. Later, the bar stools would be flying at the Oxford :) Also, the Burland wasn’t used that much for gigs by this point, but had a great market for used vinyl and clothes.
