Because those aren't lyrics to real songs. Fred is parodying the lyrical styles of those bands. Jimmy is just repeating the joke a few times in case it might get funnier with repetition. It doesn't.

Yes, watching someone else enjoy and participate in something fun is just infuriating. People should just sit quietly and not join in things that are fun. I really enjoy watching people not engage.

In my insignificant opinion, he tries too hard to be seen as better than he is, and I don’t mean it in a mean way, he wants to impress, and to me it just *comes off* as fake. That’s what I think. 🤷🏼‍♀️ I’m sure he’s lovely and he’s funny at times , but his “image” shall we say annoys me. Maybe not the right word but I can’t think of a better one. Just reminds me a lot of an old friend of mine.

Go back years and they do the same thing every time, even on other shows he does it. He had a reoccurring SNL skit with Kristen Wiig where they would try and sing songs at the same time in that exact way.

@@jaredf6205 Ahhh yes, come to think of it, I do remember this! You right you right. This is the intricacy of Fred's comedy that I don't find as funny. Just a subjective opinion. I watched his special that included drums and didn't like it that much. Just wasn't for me. But I thought this was really cool and creative and if Fred didn't include that talking over here and dove in with some actual more polished lyrics, it would have been funnier. Like, do a spoof on the dumb lyrics in punk too. Like the part where he talks about the parents in the ska song was funny. Lean into that more. But I'm not a professional comedian, these are only subjective opinions of what I find funny.

Or if the guest is super boring or saying things that are super inappropriate that would get the guest in trouble. Conan is one of the more insightful hosts.

Fred's bit is delicate, esoteric, respects & trusts the audience's intelligence, doesn't instruct them how to feel or react, elegant, risky, and assured. It's everything Jimmy Fallon and his Tonight Show are not. This was like watching Fred good-naturedly try to light a birthday candle at the bottom of a swimming pool.

This was such a joy, but way too short. I really hope Fred will do a longer version sometime soon. So many other guitar styles he could take on within punk and alt-music. Like, just at the start, he could have included The Stooges, the MC5 and maybe even Beefheart.

I will go against the consensus here and say that Jimmy interjecting was a great addition because it showcased how spectacular Fred's guitaring is that it made even Jimmy's incoherent mumblings sound nice and melodic.
