Thanks for the video. Mine was exactly like this and I realized the supply's 3.3V output was 2.5V when supply cable was disconnected from the motherboard and 1.7V when connected to the motherboard. I replaced a H431 regulator (Chinese version of TL431) and bingo, worked again!

ESR (equivalent series resistor ) meter to check cap in circuit for resistance value.

Domnule Sorin, intai doresc sa va multumesc frumos pentru toate minunatele “lectii” pe care le oferitii noua celor care va urmaresc. Vin la d-vstra cu o intrebare daca se poate, locuiesc cu familia in Danemarca si folosim servici satelit Telekom Romania, iar acum cateva zile unul din cele 2 receivere pe care le avem nu se mai aprinde, am verificat transformatorul si este ok, asa problema pare sa fie la el. Din cauza faptului ca receiverul este imperecheat cu cartela providerului m-am gandit (pentru ca va urmaresc foarte mult) ca inainte sa comand un receiver nou si implicit sa arunc receiverul defect sa treaca si prin mainile d-vstre iar apoi il voi arunca cu sufletul impacat daca acesta nu mai poate fi readus la viata 😊 Spuneti-mi va rog unde as putea trimite “jucarica” pentru ca aceasta sa apara poate intr-unul din videourile d-vstre viitoare…😜 Mentionez ca este un model mai nou fata de cel din videoul de mai sus. (pare a fi un Kaon 1000 HD) Va multumesc.

Thanks for the video. I replaced 2 capicitors that were "popped". There is now a ticking sound, but the unit still won't turn on; no lights or anything when I push the power button. Any other suggestions?

The e.s.r normally goes high once the capacitor is boiled, switchmodes need nice low resistance ones to work :-) Yep i agree, a standard form switchmode, nice big transformer hmmm :-D

When the caps are bulging, an ESR meter isnt necessary. I only ever use an ESR meter when i suspect a cap problem but the visual inspection all looks fine.

@@morphuk1 Yeah, but often a few more caps might be way over spec and ready to die too. This unit might be dead again in 3 month, but if Sorin had an ESR meter and only took a minute to test the caps, the customer will be happy for many years. I have seen caps looking perfect and they were shorted or had as high as 80 ohms.
