Piece of Cake. You've got this. Pre emission motors are easy to work with. A little pricey. But once you get her back together. It will last forever. sucks seeing Thibeault’s tractor in such poor condition. The drivers took very good care of them, seems the owner after them didn’t. This tractor used to be seen up and down Rt.93 in NH tugging the lowbed, always looked and sounded great

I have 2 WS 4964f trucks a 92, 96. What you have is a 26 year old truck with a good bases to start with. Get her right you won't look back I have owned 5 of this model truck my opinion the best of that era. Your going to put money in this one for sure but she will be your pride and joy. Let us know what you put out for her you might be surprised what WS fans think of the deal. I would even give you comparisons on my 92 and 96 with needed upgrades both run the road 96 is my main 92 is my backup.. The 92 was a private sale 96 dealer sale. Keep up the video progress im hooked.

Did u check the vin and serial number on motor and tranny to see if there originals to the truck.. Truck came from a place that looked like a parts yard. Probably took out good motor and tranny and put bad in to off it.

Im pretty sure thats exactly what happened, good call. They are drfinitely not original to the truck and i can gaurantee the truck was never driven with this drivetrain

Did you find out how the water was getting into the oil? Could it be the oil cooler is leaking? Remember, I’m a retired truck driver, not a mechanic! I’m just asking? The fan being stuck on is most likely a bad fan solenoid, or the air lines to it are plumbed wrong. However, if you had the A/C on & it works, it could also be that you have the wrong trinary switch (always open, versus always closed, or vice versa). If you have a gray kverdrive button rather than a red one, congratulations: you have a 18 speed! (And you can operate that button in any gear!) Old Western Stars are worth the effort!

I wouldn't say trans is Junk, I had a 8sp that was like that after is sat for a yr when we were cleaning the frame and putting new body on it. Had a trans guy look at it and it was just a shift shaft that got rusted from sitting then got boogered up when trying to drive it. Itvwas doing same exact thing

That sucks man, i feel for you, that person that sold it to you fully lied to you. Its so shit how someone can do that, obviously they have no morals. To me it looks and sounds like Tranny needs a rebuild and I'd say engine too most likely. One positive thing is if you had to rebuild motor and box at least you know you've got a good truck from there anyhow with good life. Good luck with it mate

I havent decided whether i should blast them or not, but yes they clearly make their living scamming people at truck auctions. The seller and also the auction site had nothing to say when i called them on the phone about the issues. Thats when i decided to make this little documentary.

Those Allison autos don't last that long. Maybe that's why it's not shifting right. And that whine you hear isn't the fan. It sounds like the supercharger to me. That's normal with those old roots blown cats.
