Hey Matt. Nice overview. But regarding the Air scoops. These are Naca Ducts. They work with pressure differentials between the air flowing over them and the pressure inside the channel that goes to the hole and gets wider. If you look from the front there is barely anything of these holes visible. So they do not add up to the front profile from where the air comes. Excerpt from Wikipedia: When properly implemented, a NACA duct allows air to flow into an internal duct, often for cooling purposes, with a minimal disturbance to the flow. The design was originally called a submerged inlet, since it consists of a shallow ramp with curved walls recessed into the exposed surface of a streamlined body, such as an aircraft. So overall the air that goes in there is waaayyyyy less than it appears by the size. And therefore the relationship between inlets and outlets is very likely absolutely correct and will not add any unnecessary drag.

Finally catching a video here rather than just following on IG for lulz. Im impressed they included the quick connectors for the wing's in the kit version tbh. Do you trust those quick connectors? Ive never been able too BUT NOT due to any first hand problems. Thanks for not rushing a flight video out as a "review" like another KZbinr's video I recently laughed and laughed at that should have been labeled a MAIDEN video haha. Great unboxing overview. Love the motor mount and nose design details .. first class. Look forward to seeing impressions after it has flown. The NACA ducts at wing root are well positioned and proportioned relative to the airflow (viewed from airflow perspective along the angle of attack). The scoop on the nose cover (8:40) however appears low on the fuselage curvature so expect is less effective. Position of front hatch scoop would make for great camera mounting position. Perhaps with pan capability. Regarding ventilation and shapes, the round finger hole is positioned like a killer whale (orca) blow hole. It appears as a design oversight, as could have been a dual purpose NACA duck and avoided the further forward intrusion. One concern I have is the vertical fins seem short in height relative to fuselage diameter and appear might be in non-laminar airflow (8:40). This may effect yaw stability at lower speeds, but then again plane was design to cruise.

I am confused Matt. With the AR Wing you made a big deal about that wing needing more airflow, which in your case at the time you posted that vid, you had a somewhat to small an ESC. Which made sense for the ESC you had, i would have done a larger one personally. But for this one you want to choke off the vents. I understand the 4x the size of egress vents, which also makes sense, but on this Alpha i would open up the egress vents instead of closing off the intake scoops, and then your ESC, given if its the appropriate size, would stay cool, no? I do get what you want to do with this one so it won't matter for your kit. Good luck on the maiden, i will be watching

Howdy North, two different model uses is the difference. One is meant to mental fast and one is not. Thus one in theory needs more cooling, but due to a oversight on how the ESC could be mounted, we end up with 3 bloody great big drag holes instead. Does that make sense? It's a form over function problem, like how they went for bottom mounted servos to make it look prettier. Matt

I was waiting for you to hack it apart to get the airflow. but as you explained in the video you will be mounting the ESC on top. TBH i posted that comment before the entire vid was done. Of course they will, they can't not. By how much is up for debate but I think its safe to say that mounting the ESC externally will produce less drag than all these inlets... and it will also be cooled better.

It's $20 more for 2 servos that fit (and pre-installed linkages), 40A ESC, motor and a prop. I cancelled my kit and ordered the PNP as soon as I started shopping for the proper servos to fit. No regrets.

Also looking at other reviews, unless you have inav or something to stabilize it, harder to fly. Nevertheless, its only my opinion, so if you buy it, please upload some videos once you get it. I don't think you'll get away with a. 1250kv due to the huge prop you'll need to swing. The good news is the PNP tends to be Nose heavy, so you can get away with a lot of motor 👍

Howdy Gary, yea the saber has flown. The battery flew out and it had a very unlucky landing. No video footage of that one flying at all yet. The Mars has flown, haven't edited the video, other priorities at the moment. Matt
