Good Evening Nelson. Good to hear from ya. Hopefully a few minor things besides this casting and it'll be ready to go to work. When It sprayed me full of oil, I only ran it for 3 or 4 seconds so I don't know yet how well she's gonna run. Gotta be something needing a bit of fiddling though, I'm sure.

There's no comparison between the 44 Specials with the disc's vs the regular 44's with the drum style Dave. Thank you for always the kind Canadian style comment mon ami !!

It's not too bad, the most aggravation coming from dealing with the nasty grease and dirt plus the rusty components on the donor machines. It's just nice to have spare parts on Death Row.

Was that heavy rain I was hearing about 1:56 into the video? Good sound of rain on a tin roof!
@tractorman4461
@tractorman4461 6 ай бұрын
Yes it was intermittent heavy rain during a 12 hour period of continual rain. I think we got near 4", thankfully though the heavy rain was minimal.

Coupling it up on the inside of the housing is gonna be an aggravation because you can't 'see' the things that have to slip together. But I'm pretty sure it'll work but if not, I still have another option or two Tom. Good Morning and you two have a great week as well.

got my 555d going when i was back in uk ,throttle stuck but wd40 it up seems ok pas not working resevoir on the top of bonnet empty and noticed no belt from pump to bottom pulley which i guess powers it is that right.

WD 40 is our friend when it comes to old tractors Nigel. Not having a 555D I'm not totally sure of the arrangement of the hydraulics...but it sure sounds like you are on the right track. The pump is definitely ran by belt off the crankshaft. There's only one hydraulic system on these tractors that power the steering and the rear lifts.

Do you know if parts are available to rebuild the hydraulic control valve on a 44? We have a 1952 44 Diesel with a factory three point lift that has not worked in over 40 years. When it stopped working, my dad went to the Massey dealer and they told him they didn't have parts to rebuild it but could sell him a new valve. He said they wanted more $$$ than he paid for the whole tractor for that valve. Times were tight on the farm in the '80s and since that old tractor was by that point mostly used for raking hay, running the grain auger and pulling wagons (none of which used the three point) it never got fixed. I'd like to fix it and was just wondering if that is even possible on a tractor that is now 72 years old.

I'd seriously doubt if you could find dealer supplied parts, but I would look for an assembly form a guy parting out a known running tractor. There are plenty of them out there. If you have access to Facebook, go to a Massey Harris page...just type in Massey Harris Groups in the search bar on FB and you'll find a good number of them. As long as you kept hydraulic fluid in it, the hydraulic pump hasn't ran dry and ruined...but if it DID run dry for an extended period, I'm sure you can buy an entire hydraulic set up pretty easy. I think I have a follow up video on this repair. Here's the link: kzbin.info/www/bejne/a5XZZGSXfNJnh9E There will soon be another video showing the hydraulic install and first real start. So you can see how easy replacing the whole assembly really is. Thanks for watching and sorry for the delay in response, I've been building a shed for my daughter.

@trevorn9381 19 сағат бұрын
@@tractorman4461 Yeah it still has fluid in the system, just hasn't been used since the valve quit working circa 1985. Since then it was pretty much only used as our auger tractor. I liked using it for the auger tractor because I could pull the clutch pedal and engage the PTO from the ground without climbing onto the tractor.

The 44, the Special and the 444 Massey's are the flagship of the lineup Matt. A direct competitor to the Farmall M's and Oliver 88's.

Those were BIG tractors in their day when many farms were using tractors the size of N series Fords and a few were still using mules. When my uncle bought a 44 Diesel in 1952 it was the biggest tractor in the county and the only diesel. Some 60 years later I was in the Massey dealership and mentioned that we had an old 44 Diesel my uncle bought new. The dealer's dad who was in his mid 90s overheard the conversation and piped up and immediately called my uncle's name and said: "I remember when he bought that tractor, that was the only 44 Diesel around here." If that old man still remembered who owned that tractor 60 years on it must have been a BIG DEAL back in the day!

Yessir Clarence, the attempted repair was done by the previous owner. I think there's a little nickel rod and also some stainless blobbing on it. I'm sure this is going to turn into a good machine. I'm expecting some minor issues to get it sorted out though.
