Lets Talk About CABERNET SAUVIGNON - What you need to know about this POPULAR grape
Cabernet Sauvignon is one of the world's most widely recognized red wine grape varieties. It is grown in nearly every major wine producing country among a diverse spectrum of climates. Cabernet Sauvignon became internationally recognized through its prominence in Bordeaux wines where it is often blended with Merlot and Cabernet Franc. For most of the 20th century, it was the world's most widely planted premium red wine grape until it was surpassed by Merlot in the 1990s.[1] However, by 2015, Cabernet Sauvignon had once again become the most widely planted wine grape, with a total of 341,000 hectares (3,410 km2) under vine worldwide

Would be great to hear your thoughts on Cabernet Sauvignon. Any particular country or region you like to go for?

I used to not like Cabernet Sauvignon before I studied wine. I thought it was too big for me. Now I’ve grown to like it. However, my parents are obsessed with Napa Cabernet Sauvignon every since they first visited Napa and I like Napa Cabernet Sauvignon. I highly recommend you check out Duckhorn, Stag’s Leap Wine Cellars (the winery that one the judgment of Pairs), Hall, Caymus, Chimney Rock, and Sequoia Grove. The only two I haven’t had a Cabernet Sauvignon from are Duckhorn and Stag’s Leap Wine Cellars

Let me be honest!! the Cabernet Sauvignon hit me hard!! After merrily enjoying a bottle of merlot I really thought that Cabernet Sauvignon will also be sweet, light and soft on the palate so I happily sipped a mouthful and Boy, I was been fooled to every bit!!!! It hit me hard like I was trying to gulp a troll mace!!! The next I know is I woke up after three days!!!

Although most people go to Napa for Cabernet Sauvignon, I highly suggest you try Cabernet Sauvignon from Alexander Valley region. These wines are cheaper than Napa and tend to have a more balanced silkier tannins.

Napa Cab wasn't always that expensive, e.g. Robert Mondavi, Beringer Knight Valley before it was being bought over. I vaguely remember Aussie made more Shiraz when there was a saying that Cab was King was because Cab usually was better to put away for a while. So, cellaring it for a while, a year for more affordable ones to decades for premium ones may be recommended.

Both cabernet sauvignon and reisling really put Washington State wines on the map. The most expensive wine property in Washington is in the Red Mountain ava and produces the best cabernet sauvignon grapes in the state. The average price from that ava is +$30/bottle with common bottlings much higher in price.

Napa Cabs have indeed become expensive. In my experience, the $30 range is usually a bit syrupy and you’ve got to get up to $50 for a bit of elegance. Some of the famous valley floor vineyards are very expensive and (for me) overrated given the price. While still pricey, the Napa mountain Cabs are a better value and incredibly good.
