Both suits of armor were beautiful! A very difficult choice: the fearsome mempo of Shogo's suit, or the iconic lacquered steel plate of Kazu's? I've seen many depictions of samurai with their sheathed katanas held forward, partway out of their belts. I never understood the significance until the (amazing) instructor explained the history of the position. I'm indebted to Shogo for sharing this!

@@SiD19884 Yeah the weight distribution on samurai armour is considerably less generous than a lot of the later European configurations. Apparently the O-yoroi type that was common among the wealthier samurai was so heavy (30kg) that it was only very rarely worn when dismounted.

I've been wanting to gather a large collection of armor for giving free public lectures on the history, form and function of samurai armor across the centuries but this video made me rethink and tell myself, 'I can go bigger than that...' Now, I am going to try my damndest to gather a collection and open a business where people can learn all about these legendary warriors and have fun photoshoots like its the Gempei War or Sengoku Jidai depending on what era of armor strikes their fancy. (O-yoroi or haramaki all the way personally!) Thank you for expanding what my dream could be, Shogo!

28:17 As armor continued to evolved daggers became more of a highly prioritized weapon to bring in case your main weapon is either lost or damaged beyond use. For example knights, as mail was the main armor before and swords were a primary weapon. But as armor evolved swords slowly became a secondary weapon to use as weapons such as bludgeons and axes became more common to help with armor destruction. I believe Samurai did the same as Katanas stayed by their hips and Naginatas, Yari, Tachi and bows were more of a primary weapon.

How long has this Dojo been in business? It is right next to the "M4" Airsoft Bar, (Tiny indoor BB gun shooting range) which I have been to. Another great video that makes me want to go back to Japan again, even if only to try to visit this place. I think both sets of Armour are a work of art. The evolution and development of Japanese armour is something I do like to study but I am not an expert in it. Kazu was wearing what I believe to be a reproduction of a style that might be from the 14-15th century, it has lots of lacing and very large sode. In the Sengoku period the sode become smaller and more rounded, and small kozane scales of armour covered with lace were replaced by large plates joined together with significantly fewer laces. But in the Edo period there was a return to the older styles as the relative peace of the period changed the armour from a practical, campaign and war fighting aspect to that of displaying wealth and artistic flair.

If I was to come to Japan I’d want to spend the weekend as a samurai. From morning to night. But maybe it’s because of the movies I watch.

I'm sorry, could you one day show us one of two places that should still be teaching Tennen Rishin-ryu? I think I saw info about one being in Edo/Tokyo and one in Kyoto as well. I'm sorry if I messed up with the places, but this is what I remember. It would be great if you would one day say more about it. I'm sorry for causing troubles.

This just makes me realize how hard it must've been to run and walk around during wars. I now look at characters from games like for Honor differently, seeing these lads running around in full armor and being agile as well

Красиво, эффектно, интересно!!! Отличный ролик. И приятно, что автор из Японии, то есть из страны первоисточника, есть основания доверять.
