It's always such a pleasure working with others who have about the same level of experience and knowledge about the work being done. You and John seem to mesh very well. I had the pleasure of working with one of my best friends for nearly 35 years doing framing, drywall, interior/exterior trim, roofing... you name it. We even cut and cored concrete as co-owners. We could work for hours without saying a word to each other if we wanted because we could almost read each others mind.

Right before you said it, I was thinking, is there anything they didn't try on this one, bags of sackcrete stacked and anchored with rebar, geo-tex, rubber roofing and rip rap. Bout the only thing I didn't see was the old mine belt trick.🤣 Nice job on the new overflow!👍🏼

Lol! I do too! I’ve operated a mini excavator similar to Chris’s Yanmar, and I can feel it rock every time he hooks into something that doesn’t want to move! With his years of experience, he pushes it to the edge safely, and I never got enough experience with the one I operated to know where the limit was! So yeah my feet push on the floor every time he starts rocking! 🤣🤣🤣

@michaelscott82262 жыл бұрын
Holy crap, Chris! I don't build ponds, but after watching several of your videos, I have picked up on the idea that you want CLAY for the core of the dam. Not topsoil or non-clay dirt, and certainly not rock, or the stacked concrete bag "fake rock". No wonder the dam was washing out. It's really sad when you have to bring in proper clay to backfill the overflow, because someone thought they knew what they were doing and completely botched it up. It would not surprise me if they end up asking you guys to re-core the dam at some point. I get the metal pipe rotting out, that was probably standard material when the pond was first established, but the rest of it really made me scratch my head, wondering what they were thinking.

Have you ever tried or know anyone who has tried expanding foam to replace concrete for your anti seep collars or sealing joints on your overflows? They use this stuff for setting posts, plugging vertical mine shafts, insulation, and so on. Just wondering if this would work and save money, while still doing the same job? It would expand and seal to plastic culverts quite well and completely fill any void you put it in. It sets up faster than concrete, replaces concrete in many other applications and should last just as long underground.
