I've been having this exact same thought these last few weeks. But it was about my kids; twin girls will be 18 in a month, son will be 17 in 2 months. Where did the time go?? Best projects I could ever have dreamed to help create. Lots of demo work, building and repairing, plenty of mistakes, cursing and praying too. Not done yet though. Not sure if you ever finish these projects.

Glad you left that holly tree standing. Landowners should try to nourish that tree and let it grow bigger... Holly is one of the most expensive species of wood that is native to the U.S., with retail prices in the $20-30 range for a kiln-dried board foot (that's 1"x12"x12", or 1/12 cubic foot, after drying and shrinking in the kiln). Holly is one of the absolute whitest woods around, and is prized by woodworkers for that reason. Relative to other trees, holly trees tend to be relatively small, rare, and and require special care when harvesting and drying, which also contributes to the high prices for holly wood.

Great video as always Chris. The artistic look you left behind. With the trees within the boulders was a great look. Also read alot of the comments. Thought it might be of some interest for you. Too far south for that, glaciation only made it to southern Ohio slanting up towards Northern Pennsylvania. There was an extensive, Himalaya like range from the collision of the african plate, These are probably remnants of that.
@greghoffstadt6674 жыл бұрын
Plate tectonics is the reason for the diverse topography of the Carolinas. Some of the rocky out cropping are said to be 1.8 billion years old. Y'all made me wonder. So I looked it up. Thanks for the knowledge.
@ArnieD174 жыл бұрын
@@jcadult101The Boone Fork glacier was in about his location and probably the source. And yes looked it up. Not part of my country. The alps were caused by Africa moving north. The Himalaya Mountains were caused by the subcontinent of India slamming into Asia. Useless fact 1023 at one time the Appalachian Mountains rivaled the Himalaya Mountains in height.

That holly tree growing out of the rock is a great reminder of what soil is: it's simply the result of millions of years of trees and other vegetation growing and dying, breaking up rocks into smaller and smaller rocks, and mixing with their own organic material, until it becomes soil. It's fascinating to think about how that happened.
