That truck load of sand gave me chills! When I was 18 (1984) I was still laboring for my dad in the masonry business and the last job before I started laying brick was a huge huge warehouse. Every day a truck that size would dump sand and two semis would unload Cherokee block. If you were the ground men you mixed mortar and raised block non stop. Some days we only turned the mixers off at lunch. 60 scoops of sand 3 bags of cement and 15 gallons of water per batch, all day. repeat the next day for two months. No I didn't walk up hill to school every day. I didn't go half the time in high school I was working! lol My nephews pay to go to the gym and couldn't push a wheelbarrow filled with cement without dumping it if that had to...

127 inches of rain, hell that's far more than our rainy average here in Oregon. No wonder the soil there is so easy to scoop out. Doing a project like that in this state would take an environmental study and approval by snowflakes, flagmen, coned off to one lane access, 2 guys with hand held shovels, a foreman, a permit that takes forever to get approved, an inspection before, during, then after. And at least one teammate with CPR/first aid training. High fuel costs and smog regulations plus high taxes, to really put the squeeze on.

When you said ten feet of rain fall "somehow" reminds me of my neighbor? Some fancy politician predicted 25 years ago that most of Florida would be underwater by 2006 or so. My neighbor panicked and literally gave away his home for pennies on the dollar and moved to Arizona. The polar ice was melting and melting fast they said, learn to swim or move to higher ground they said, gonna be ten feet of water over your house Bill. Fast forward to 2020 and the only thing that has changed is that his home he sold is now worth a hundred times more than what he sold it for and is still high and dry, we laugh to this day about that and he stopped listening to those fancy politicians, lol!
