I just found this channel two days ago and have spent a bunch of my weekend admiring your work ethic and attention to detail sir! What really stands out in your commentary is that you are constantly trying to do what is “BEST” not just in terms of correct and how it should be, but also what is best for your customer and the end result. For example: making sure a landowner can easily maintain a grade and such. I wish I could find a contractor with even half the respect you have for your customers here in TX. Have got nothing but subpar work on our last few projects, which is why I started watching/searching KZbin so I could attain the knowledge to know when I am getting what I need done correctly. We are going to build a pond soon and am using your videos to gain the knowledge to know it is being done right! Much respect and thanks to you from TX, Chris!!! Dig On!!!

When I built my little 32x40 barn out here in the boonies, there was a 6 foot drop at one corner. A quarry 14 miles away was selling its fines for $11 a load so we trucked in 187 tons and made the pad. It was vibratory compacted and we put 4 inch rip rap on the banks. She’s solid. The concrete slab on top of the pad has been very stable. The bad news was that on these secondary roads most of the truckers would only carry 7-8 tons. That’s the problem when drivers own their own trucks. They don’t want to break them just because I’m in a hurry. They don’t know what it’s like to be old.

You're lucky that most sites you work on have material you can use, many jobs around here material has to be imported from a gravel pit one dump truck load after another.

00:20 near perfect camera placement, perhaps 1 or 2 degrees down so the bucket is still in view at full curl. 03:00 awsome view of the dump backing onto the pad, the kind of view that's rarely seen in this type of video, but which gives a nice perspective on how things fit together. 04:30 not a fan of the restricted view of in-cab, but am a fan of the talk about what, how, and especially why you are doing things. 07:50 why take the truck down into the hole for refilling the hole, why not dump from the edge? 17:00 that dump needs a "rumbler" to knock all that clay off the surfaces. must be some really good clay. 20:00 where would you find any good topsoil around there with all that clay? oh wait. =)
