I got an 84 also last year. It came with a rochester carb and gm intake manifold. I decided to go back to crossfire injection as it was not running, most of the parts(crossfire) were missing and the rest were rusted. So I went to town...head gasket, timing chain, oil pan gasket etc. I've never been happier , now all it needs is matte black paint. Now WHY wont you do head gaskets, timing chain etc while it's all open? BTW I fix to watch every minute of you build, bravo!!!
