I’m moving to the Netherlands soon, and the intro of this video just got me even more excited!! The best intro I've come across so far!

Your video, its introductory part had some magical visual movie-story-telling, and then you went into talking head. And that was a good story. Well done.

This video has a very good vibe. And yes: Being a (serious) expat it is sometimes necessary to sit outside in the rain and let yourself get absolutely wet :-) Meaning: You need to accept the circumstances of the place you live and take on what is there in the moment. Sometimes it is akward and not so comfortable but it educates you how to recover or how to adapt (the umbrella ) and see for yourself you are strong enough to survive and do well! :-) :-)

Hi you two, I just love your videos. My son and his family moved to the Netherlands and you really teach me so much about their new country. I so wish to be able to come and stay there too, but as a pensioner, it will just be too expensive but I will surely be over for a good visit. You are just giving so much living in the Netherlands information. I am already busy teaching myself the Dutch language and my own Afrimaans home language and my German studied and lecturing language helps a lot. I actually understand the Dutch language quite well. Thank you again!

Hello, Thank you, we are glad that this video can help you in some way to know more about The Netherlands. We really hope that you get to visit here soon. If you already know German then Dutch shouldn't be a problem :) and most people here are very kind, and friendly, sometimes I understand them in Dutch and reply in english and that's also totally fine with them :) Cheers, Adi :)

Nederland Waterland Dutch grammar is not so bad. It find it quite a bit simpler than German. And hey, I'm an English speaker...we have all kinds of strange things in our language. Mixing with the local people is better, definitely. I don't want to be a "typical American tourist" and I am not. I am in the U.S. a volunteer firefighter, in addition to my baan...energie handelaar.... The fire service in Germany and much of the Netherlands is like the volunteers here, and through FB I have made contact with many. So a different path into the culture. But, as I am a firefighter, they accept me as a part of their community. Knowing the language helps... alot.

Yes, if you want to take part in Dutch society: Learn Dutch. If you need local friends: Learn Dutch. Remember that this is a Dutch society where we speak Dutch and live in a Dutch culture. No matter how you look at it: English is a foreign language to us Dutch people. We more or less speak foreignish English. And the only reason why we do so is to serve the foreigners. Do you want to stay foreigner/stranger/visitor? By all means stick to English. In that case the message you are providing to the Dutch is: I do not care to learn Dutch, nor am I interested in Dutch culture. And you are also saying: Basically I am just briefly here and soon I am on my way out of here. You'll find out that the conversations with the Dutch will stay superficial and getting Dutch friends is going to be a challenge. It is all about respect, interest and investment. See If you are not interested in us... we are not interested in you! If you do not want to invest in yourself to learn Dutch, then we do not invest in you having a friendship with you. After all you are a guest in our country. And so you are a guest in our language as well, just like you are a guest in our culture. Want no longer to be a guest and become one of us? Learn to speak Dutch! And become Dutch as you take place in Dutch society. Picture this: What if I would want to go live in your country, and I refuse to speak the local language and stick to Dutch...and as a matter of fact I demand the locals of your country to talk back to me in Dutch as well... would that be respectful? Would that be in my personal interest? Would that lead to the desired achievement? Would that lead to local friends? Think about it ! Just saying...
