Hey! Your video was informative for those planning to hike this route. Just a couple of things from someone who has done a lot of hiking (mostly in Canada where I’m from). I would advise carrying a water filter (I use Lifestraw) instead of carrying extra water. The filter weighs nothing but an extra litre of water weighs a lot. Also, always carry an emergency blanket 😀

I did the same mistake when doing the alta via 1 , with 24 kg of backpack now i am going to do the tour of mon blanc with a "featherweight" backpack compared to the other one with just shy of 13 kg...I've learned so much and still there is to learn...
@davidwright71932 жыл бұрын
You are still carrying too much cr@p. 13kg is a lot if you are going refuge to refuge. I would shoot for no more than 8kg without water and food. In the alps you shouldn’t need to carry more than 2 days lunches at anytime. Take a rest day halfway around after that you will be able to add another 10km per day without noticing it much. Acclimatisation is a wonderful thing.

Thank you for this! I did the West Highland Way in Scotland this past May and am hungry to get back to EU to do another long trek and my friend suggested we try this one. This was very helpful on what to consider when planning.
@LetsMeetAbroad2 жыл бұрын
Great suggestion from your friends! We did a lot of hikes and long distance trekkings, but I (Myra) really loved this one the most. Just everything is beautiful and the combination of refuges and towns I really liked!

@@LetsMeetAbroad Wonderful! Thank you again for the suggestion. It is also SO helpful to see the ladders to climb etc as my friend was most worried about those due to fear of heights. So thank you again for showing the reality of what to prepare for. I think we shall still pursue it :)

Yeah, this hiking business ain't cheap if you want to travel light :) On a more serious note, congrats, guys! I saw your video last year, so really happy to see that you didn't give up, prepared well this time and went for it! Hope it continues to go well 🤞

@@LetsMeetAbroad Ha-ha, yes, trust me, I know... Backpack, shoes, merino wool everything (underwear, socks, top, bottoms), sleeping bag liner (want light - buy silk one, it's more expensive than cotton), hydration bladder (if you use it), the list goes on. Same for the tent and sleeping bag. They can be very light but will cost like a jet. I have the same panama hat (Columbia, right?) you're wearing, so I know how much that one costs too :) And then accommodation and food of course (don't want to carry food = extra weight, prepare to pay for cooked meals). It might not seem much per expense, but when you add it all up together... But you're absolutely right, it lasts years (of very extensive use).

@@LetsMeetAbroad This year I, unfortunately, channelled last year you and had to leave the trail sooner than I planned :( (was doing part of Via Alpina red route in Slovenia) due to problems with shoes. Fit and comfort were ok, but they were just not performing in hot weather (despite merino wool socks and regular stops for airing out). I got so many blisters that Compeed should give me a loyalty card or something. At least Salomon accepted my warranty claim (I'd like to see them trying to reject it after I threatened to send them pictures of all of my blisters ))) ) and gave me voucher to try out another model. I remember sitting in the room of the posh hotel in Ljubljana (nothing else was available in the entire Slovenia by then) and thinking that when you post a video titled 'my hiking trip to XXX' and then video starts with a person talking from a hotel room (sound familiar? :) ) you can immediately tell that that hiking trip did not exactly go to plan...

I don't know if it's because I am used to watching your vlogs regularly and is inclined to be bias-- but I really love the pacing of this edit. I guess it goes to show that one can tell an engaging story without the need to blow people's mind off with ADHD inducing cuts every half of a second.

Nice storytelling, video, photography & bridge to your parallel content channels. As "the Dutch" have a habit of trying to pronounce foreign language names in the way of the foreign language it seems "we" still have a challenge here ;) . Oh, question. In the end, at the mountain lake, there was a hiker walking through the frame in the left 1/5th or so. With your video editing software, would it be possible to freeze frame that 1/5th and let the other 4/5th continue as video? That would have taken the hiker out and as nothing happened in the 1/5th, the viewer would not have noticed.

Hi! Loooove watching your channel! Hoping to do this hike next summer - is it often full booked at the refuges when you arrive? And is it possible to camp near the refuges?
@LetsMeetAbroad2 жыл бұрын
It refugios are most probably booked during peak seasons. Yes, sometime you have the camping spots available but it is really risky to go without booking a refuge or camping spot.

@@LetsMeetAbroad Dank.
