Halo 3 ODST starts during the events of Halo 2. The game starts with an ODST drop being messed up by The Prophet of Regret making a slip space jump while hovering over New Mombasa. We see the same scene in halo 2, Gavin even remembered that the space lift fell due to damage from The Prophet Of Regrets in atmosphere slip space jump. Which is why we see chunks of the lift all over Tsavo Highway in halo 3. I’m guessing the reason ODST is called Halo 3 ODST, is due to the halo 3 engine that was used. But canon wise it’s parallel to halo 2.

But there is also a lot of intel that suggests that ODST ends either very close to before halo 3 or even during. I may be wrong but I think the events of halo 2, ODST, and 3 all take place in the same year or few years canon wise anyway.

ODST ends right before Halo 3 starts (or at least right in the very beginning.) One of the ending cutscenes of ODST shows the covenant having some of the ark uncovered whereas it’s fully uncovered in the Halo 3 mission “The Storm”

My complaint was that Jack kept pointing the finger at Matt damn near every time they died, even if Jack parked them in front of a ghost while Matt was reloading. The only kills that should've counted for Matt and Jeremy on the mongeese were when they accidentally rocketed themselves, or the other mongoose, and even then it shouldn't have counted for the riders when their driver yelled "SHOOT THE GUY 2 INCHES AWAY FROM US!!!" first. I'd have given Matt a few of the deaths, like up until #10, but after that the "lets fuck with Matt" joke was getting pretty stale.

Dammit my nerd self can't help itself. The arguement Gavin and Matt are having at roughly the 1 hour mark. Halo 3 ODST takes places during Halo 2. This game covers what was going on back on Earth while the MC was on the delta Halo ring. In ODST, the Covenant are excavating for the portal to the Ark, which appears in Halo 3. The glassing in Halo 3 wasn't the Covenant, but the elites that sided with the UNSC. They glassed Africa because the Flood made it to Earth, and if Lord Hood's words were accurate, they glassed half the continent of Africa, because it was the only sure-fire way to prevent the Flood from spreading.

TM Delacrush yeah but there's a difference, when Gavin makes a mistake and gets killed or something most times it's because he's trying to pull off some cool stunt or kill himself in some spectacular and comedic way, Jack was just driving headlong into ghosts and plasma fire. Like he always went full speed and then blamed Matt for not making shots that are extremely hard to lead if you don't slow up, that or he just stopped in the middle of the open entirely and blamed Matt for getting shot when he had no control over his movements since he was gunner. Even besides those mistakes though Jack was still acting as if Matt had some special version of the rocket launcher that holds a dozen rounds instead of two, can reload in a tenth of a second instead of the solid two seconds it actually takes, and is some kind of hitscan weapon instead of the slow projectile that it is. The fact is that Jack was putting Matt in situations where he couldn't possibly keep them alive and take down all the ghosts and shit, Jack was a terrible driver here and didn't take any of the limitations Matt had into account, all he did was get mad at him for not being able to do stuff that a computer couldn't do even with perfect aim, Matt did his best, Jack was just a bad driver.

Okay, technically both Gav and Matt were right. In Halo 2 Regret comes to Earth and that's when ODST starts as Buck's team is meant to drop into the Carrier and together with Chief infiltrating it capture the Prophet of Regret and most likely negotiate a truce. Regrets carrier slipspaces away from Earth and In Amber Clad follows him (which you can see in the ODST intro cutscene). So that leads to the Delta Halo mission in Halo 2 but in ODST there is still a heavy Covenant presence and they're glassing the area near Voi to extract the portal to the Ark. In Halo 3 Africa is glassed since R'tas Vadum (Halfjaw/Shipmaster) did it to eradicate the Flood that had arrived in a captured Covenant Battlecruiser.

Haak333 in my personal opinion definitely between jack and Geoff. Matt is only bad because he just wins he’s an occasional dick but nearly as much as the other three. Ryan was bad but only because he was fucking angry which made him more funny from the audience perspective but for them it was a a nightmare( at least for Michael Jermey and Alfredo) however in halo Jack was screwing the others over to the point where he would absolutely be at fault but blame Matt anyway. Geoff was constantly fucking them the whole game but he stopped when he needed to only because they wouldn’t beat it otherwise. If I had to choose I would give it to Geoff only because he fucked with them for much longer than Jack fucked the others

Geoff, because it takes less skill for what he does, and he intentionally did what he did to hold others back. Ryan just wanted to learn on the fly, Matt is just plain better and does not brag (ironically since his last name is Bragg), and Jack is just terrible and knows that when he gets jerked off at home, it's out of pity instead of love. I believe that both Gavin and Matt were right about their discussion about the timeframe in wich ODST takes place. In the outskirts mission of H2, a covenant ship leaves the planet in the middle of the city and causes a huge explosion that starts the events of ODST, destroys the space elevator and such... Then the covenant star glassing the city looking for the portal to the ark, and thats the middle of H3, in this mission you only get to see the start of that. That's enough for me nerding about this game. Feel free to correct me if I'm wrong.

59:00 The scene Matt is thinking of is in Halo 3, when the Flood land near what used to be Mombasa, so the Sangheili (Elites), allied with the humans, pours most of their resources into combating the flood threat, to ensure it doesn't take over earth. To do this, they begin glassing the area around Mombasa, and essentially half of Africa, to stem and eventually destroy the flood invasion.

Gavin is absolutely right. Halo 3: ODST starts at the end of the Halo 2 level "Metropolis". The Chief destroys the Scarab, Johnson's Pelican picks him up and brings him to the "In Amber Clad" (Keyes's ship). Halo 3: ODST starts with a team of ODSTs planning to drop onto the carrier ship which is parked over New Mombasa. But the ship starts moving and warp jumps right above the city to near Halo Delta. Keyes and the Chief follow the ship, but the shockwave of the warp jump throws the ODSTs off target and destroys the space elevator. Matt is referring to the part in Halo 3 where, right after the prophet of Truth activates a forerunner installation near New Mombasa which opens a portal to the ark, the flood lands on earth. The elites do their best to contian the infection by glassing Africa. So Matt is also right, but Gavin is referring to something else.

Yep. I love how detailed the Halo universe is. For example, in the Halo 1 level "343 Guilty Spark", Jenkins is one of the Marines who enter the underground complex and one of the first to encounter the Flood. (You find his helmet and watch his video right before encountering the Flood yourself.) The book "The Flood" gives more background story about Jenkins. How his conciousness happened to survive when he got infected by the Flood, how he tried to kill himself to escape the horror, how he got captured by the UNSC and how he managed to alert them to an incoming Flood attack from below. There are also comics explaining the gap between Halo 4 and Halo 5. And on top of the lore, the Halo games are just so much fun to play! Nothing beats playing "Assault on the Control Room" with your best friend. Trying to sneak through the rooms with the sleeping Grunts. Plastering theat one poor grunt in a shade turret with plasma grenades. One-shot-killing all Hunters from behind while being invisible. Rushing to kill the Elite before he can take off with the Banshee. So many good memories!

I know this is unoriginal but we can all agree Jack was killing Matt in this, the fact that 1 Jack is hunched over driving so he's protected while driving, he's going point blank into everything and don't even get me started on not using the drift to help the shooters, times where they struggle to aim while turning, it took me a while to realise it but you'd be surprised how much it helps. Also ODST happens during halo 2, what happens to Earth after the chief leaves

ODST takes place during Halo 2. The covenant ship in New Mombassa makes a slip space jump in the city (jumps to Delta Halo) and in ODST you drop down into the city as it’s jumping. In this mission (the one they are playing in the video) the covenant starts to glass New Mombassa to uncover the portal to the Ark (what the Humans assume actually is the ark) (the Eiffel Tower looking forerunner thing is underneath New Mombassa and that’s what they are glassing/digging for). Matt is thinking of the Elites glassing half of Africa to prevent the flood from covering Earth

Jack reminded me of a driving instructor I had in high school. He told me to check my mirrors (just randomly) but I was trying to watch the truck in front of me to see if he was gunna pull out in front of us so I said hold on. Then he starts yelling at me to check my mirrors (again for no reason other than to look at them) so i do, and the second i look away the truck pulls out.
