“The Witch on the Ridge” was some old lady living as a recluse wanting peace. This is more common than people realize, especially in wooded areas. People just like living alone in the woods lol I find it funny when people just get outright scared of something out of the norm
@savaialaddams62737 ай бұрын
Some people never leave the comfort of their "space", and do not know old women with plants, cats, and a way to sweep their home, are not threatening. Worse, they assign 'witch' to that older woman, who might be a Catholic, Baptist, Buddhist, or whatever. 'Witch' is a religion, not a slur. I swear, all it takes to scare young people these days is calligraphy, land lines, and lack of internet.

I’ll be honest that I zoned out and missed some of that story, but the part I heard was that she thought he was dead when he was in the military. When he got back, she wanted him and the clerk too. I’d also be an abusive husband if I caught my wife in bed with someone else. Don’t be a hoe. Either leave the husband or leave the clerk. Don’t try to sneak around and have both.

Look I don't condone what him & his friends did, but Dora Anne wasn't a good person either, if she wanted to keeps things going with the other guy she should have ended things with her husband, she caused what happened to the poor guy cause she wanted her affair & happy married life.

@@zerobolt9506 Her husband was violent, it was different times when women couldn't own their own money so no, it was not that simple.
@Lorie3367 ай бұрын
@zerobolt9506 divorce was taboo back in the 40's and 50's, plus even if a divorce happened it would be more shameful on the woman no matter the situation. In today's society divorce isn't taboo, so there's no excuse, but remember the 40's and 50's were different times especially for women, which by the way most women were homemakers and didn't drive. I know this because of my grandparents, God rest their souls, He was the breadwinner and she the homemaker. He could drive and she couldn't, but she was an excellent navigator when they went on trips. She was also educated, she did finish high school whereas my grandpa lived on a farm and had to quit his education in 8th grade and eventually went to war at 17. He forged his birth certificate. Also, I am sure she loved both men, but seeing as her husband in the end was a violent man, you have to wonder if the war had changed him. He may not have been violent until he came back. Maybe Dora was going to break it off with the clerk, but noticed how her husband was acting towards her and others and decided to keep the affair going in secret because she couldn't get divorced. I know that even years after the war, after he married my grandma and they had four kids that he had night terrors for the rest of his life that my grandma couldn't always sleep in the same bed with him. For the longest time you couldn't sneak up on him or you would end up in a choke hold and he never talked about the war for a long time. Outside my grandma I was the first family member he told about his experiences in the war when I was about 8 or 10, he didn't tell me everything, but he told me enough. He was a Marine sent to fight the Japanese in Okinawa, one of the worst battles of the Pacific. Again the times were different.

Copperheads aren’t as scary as rattlesnakes even if they don’t warn you. Cooperheads rarely kill people. There is anyivenom basically everywhere and it’s the least toxic venom of any pit viper in North America. It’ll burn like heck and prolly cause you to lose a limb or a lot of tissue decay but copperheads aren’t nearly as venomous as a rattlesnake which even then if it was a timber rattlesnake you’d have like 2 days to get antivenom. Snakes in North America are relatively mild compared to the rest of the world

These responses are disappointing. The grandmother was obviously not well educated, and probably brought up with these old ideas. She might have helped some people, whether by the placebo effect, just by listening, or because one or two of her remedies actually worked to some extent. One of the world's most used modern drugs started as a "folk remedy," after all. And those villagers might have had little or no access to science based care.

Reminds me of my Grandpa, he was from Appalachia. He told me about Wampus cats and the like and all his "friend of a friend" stories. The one that always kinda tripped me up was his story about the time he saw a "wildman" when he was a kid while fishing a crick. It stood out because He always told the story the same, the details never quavered. compared to any of the others that were always different each time he told them. "I heard this whistling, not so much a tune but a single high pitched note. I looked across the far side of the crick and bout half way up the holler i seen him. Bout tall as our preacher who was bout 7 feet. Gaunt, covered in wirey, red hair head to toe, except for his face which was a suntanned dark with a large, furrowed forehead. His arms swung deeply with each step he took. I whistled back and he froze to look at me, and when he saw where i was he took off at a frightful pace up over the ridge out of sight. Spooked, i left the area but as i was leaving i couldnt shake the fact i was being followed an watched."

For some reason i really like the Apalachi/camping video's and there are my favorite of all his videos, probably because i hike my self and I'm kinda skittish of every sound when I'm hiking , these videos make my fears more greater, i know it's bad for me but still like it.

Story 1 reminds me of the Dolly Parton Heartstrings episode called Bones.

I love your stories especially this type but must admit the story of the “witch” was very sad

The thing about Appalachia, the people don't have the cash anymore, but they have the land. The land has a value to it.

In the 1st story that was set in NC, were you referring to Pisgah? If so, it’s pronounced Piz-Gahh. ☺️ Not an ounce of disrespect is meant by my comment, it just caught me off guard & I had to go look for a Pisa in NC & just could not find one!! Hahahaha I’d love for my husband & I to be able to retire up around Asheville, maybe in Madison Co. or close to Pisgah View State Park. There’s a restaurant up there, Pisgah View Inn Restaurant and OMG!! The view is breathtaking & they also have THE BEST oatmeal pie!! Not a cookie w/ cream in it, a pie!! Shoot, now I’m wanting some, but to far away!! We’re outside of Fort. Bragg/Fayetteville (5’ish hour drive). LOVE your channel!!!! ❤

I’ve spent the night at that place and the view truly is beautiful. We had been camping for several days at Merle Fest and were overdue for a shower on our way back to Louisiana. I believe it was 2003 or so. Fun fun fun 😎

@@daviswall3319 My Daddy started working for CP&L right before I was born, 1972. For for most of my childhood & teen yrs., he worked outta town M-F, either in Asheville or Wilmington, so during the summers we stayed either at the beach or at the mountains!! It was awesome, lol!! CP&L had some kind of employee get together thing at the Pisgah View Inn & that’s when I fell IN LOVE w/ that place!! I’m sure all Mountains are beautiful, but to me, there is just something so special and magical about & in the North Carolina Mountains!! We went to Asheville for our honeymoon (99), lol, we just love it up there!! I prefer the rural areas more!! Ok, sorry for the dang novel, lol!! Night.

The guy who submitted story 1… you have problems… that poor lady went through so much and she’s still a witch and you don’t feel sorry for her…gross.

While I do feel sorry for her for what happened by her husband & his friends, she's not innocent here or a good person, she could have divorced her husband & got with the other guy, but she wanted her cake & to eat it too, if the genders was reversed here everyone would condemned the husband for having still had an affair after finding out his wife was a life.

The times were different but the town, the people, should’ve done something before it got to that point. I truly hope the story isn’t true because otherwise it’s a circulation of violence that all could’ve been avoided if people made different choices. If people didn’t turn the other way until it’s too late. What that man had been through was pure hell then he returns home to ‘this’. How he reacted was horrid, but where was he mentally? Again, I hope it’s not true because there’s no justice for anyone here. They are all guilty and hold some responsibility to what happened. And all anyone can say about it was ‘times were different’.
