Why were the cats monsters? They were starving to death, that's nature.

I know! And he was such a drama queen "hundred of red eyes were watching me" and he thought they attacked her before she died?! They were watching him, because they were scared and hungry, poor furry babies... And he was so judgemental that the lady was alone with a lot of cats! The only bad thing about it is that based on how many she had and the fact that there was a new litter, I guess she didn't spay/neuter them. Otherwise, there is nothing bad about living alone with cats, what if her spouse died, she was divorced etc... I get that it was a really awful thing to see, it's not something I would like to see myself, but acting like the cats were a bunch of horror movie animals getting ready to eat every human they see?!

I think its just a matter of perspective , personally I don't find the cats monsters , but naturally most people would find the idea of a pet eating their owners scary but this comes from a simple realization . Many people tend to forget that animals like cats and dogs ( to a lesser extent pigs too) are either carnivores or omnivores and will willingly consume carrion if they are hungry so while the thought is very scary its ultimately not surprising.

@@Isirian Right? Humans will eat other humans if they have no other option but starvation. Any animal that eats meat will eat whatever it has to survive. If I died I'd pray that my animals DID eat me in order to keep themselves alive until help could come. It would be the last and most important thing I could do for them.

Okay, that guy in the last story really ticked me off. As if cats are the only creatures that will feed on their owner's dead flesh. Those poor things were STARVING and just like any creature on this planet was not going to die when there was food right there. It's absolutely sad for the owner and the cats but DAMN IT are you seriously profiling a cat? Never heard of dogs doing it, huh? Hell, humans don't exactly have a spotless history with cannibalism. I apologize for the rant, I don't tolerate that kind of idiocy well. Not even from a paramedic.

What's more this actually emphasizes how hungry the poor felines were , since cats actually have a notable distain towards eating carrion versus dogs which will happily do so . Those cats had to be near death to do that .

Cats view death differently than we do. When someone's dead, they're not what they were anymore. They're not the person/animal/living being they were. They're just a body. That's why they can easily turn to it when they have no other options left. (trust me, those cats definitely didn't eat her alive... cats don't do that) They're not monsters. They were just trying to survive. *Hell, we who view bodies the way we do can turn to cannibalism if at an extreme enough level of starvation. Countless cases of that out there.

Coyotes are actually a lot bigger than most people think (Or rather much bigger than TV or magazines can properly convey). I was once trailed by a curious coyote while spending a week out in a desert town where my grandpa lived when out on a walk, and they're about as big as a husky. At first I thought it was just a big dog, but they have a pretty unusual shape. I can totally see why a smaller breed would be scared of them.

My grandmother lives in the country in NC and when I say country, I mean COUNTRY... The nearest town in either direction is a good 30 minute drive. She lives on a couple acres, has her entire life (it was her mother's home before her) and they have seen black Panthers there stalking the edge of the woods... She has dogs that stay outside and my uncle lives on the property as well in a trailor across the lot but when I tell you... Going outside at night is literally the scariest thing I've ever experienced... You can hear coyotes and other things you've never heard of before. They have hundreds of bobcats, which I've only ever heard one (side note: their screeching sounds like a woman screaming for help. Had my fiance at the time not told me this, my dumbass would have gone into the woods looking for a woman dying and then I would have turned out to be the woman dying.. just terrifying!!) But they have mountain lions, you name it. I get so scared for her being alone there but she doesn't venture outside at night.. doesn't mean a rabid one couldn't come and take her tiny little body away!!! I don't know why I listen to these stories... They are so scary!! But I do learn a lot of things that I hadn't known so hopefully that will help me be prepared if ever in this situation.

I personally was a firefighter for 14 years and have been called to get a body bc of the smell and being able to put air packs on. I was always a dog person also but my ex left me with 3 cats which is now 4 bc I couldn't afford to get them fixed fast enough. It's now moving into winter and hate to close the door even if all my cats are in bc the other night there was a random cat laying on the dog pillow when I walked out

Dogs and cats may be wonderful pets for living humans. But if their owner dies and the dogs or cats are trapped in a house or flat with no access to other food and no one notices that their owner hasn’t been seen in a while and the dogs or cats get hungry enough they will eat is available too them ie the dead owner. It’s not their fault it’s just their survival instincts kicking in.

Parrots and other large curve-beaked birds scare the hell out of me! We had parakeets and a cockatiel when I was growing up, and at one point I had a pigeon, but never anything larger. But I think it says something that parrots and their large kin were the only animal that Steve Irwin actually feared! And in that last story, the poor kitties couldn't help the fact that they were forced to feed upon the hoarder lady! I can easily show you cases were dogs have eaten people following disasters.

It's EXTREMELY rare for dogs to do that... but extremely common for cats. They will barely wait for you to die... whereas dogs will often starve until rescued. It's a well known fact in the crime scene community... if you have cats... they'l eat you if you die.

Cats, dogs, I think even hamsters will sometimes have something to do with their dead owner. I realise it was sorta traumatizing to see, but the author is making those cats sound near Satanic, which is totally irrational. It generally starts with instinctive anxiety behavior...they do nips to wake their unresponsive owner, then over time hunger will cause something to trip & they go from nipping to biting to eating. It's not done because of a longstanding desire to kill & eat their owners. Often the animal(s) will still defend their owner when they're found, & not because you're taking away their lunchbox. It's really quite sad. :(

Yes! Talking sh*t on cats, the f*ck are animals supposed to do once an owner passes? They search for food and if they can't find it, the owner becomes food. Dogs, cats, any animal that is a carnivore I'd imagine will turn to the next best thing if there is no food around.

Thing is, kids have thumbs and can work a doorknob/lock. Pets can't. I too found it unreasonable for them to judge the cats, when their literal only option would be to eat the dead lady (And it's not like they KILLED her to eat her, she died of natural causes) or starve to death, and if this person justifies any extreme measures taken for the sake of survival of a human, then they really have no ground to stand on when it comes to other species as well. I'd be way more inclined to call the dog that attacked a kid unprovoked a "little monster" than those cats.

It's hard to sympathize with some of these people. Animals, humans included, will eat their dead if starvation is imminent. You can't just expect them to starve to death because you don't like the idea of it. Getting bitten by a rattler should give you a healthy fear when wandering the fields; it does not mean these animals should be driven to extinction or near enough to it. Take your anger out on the system that forces you to pay tens of thousands of dollars for something that should have been free.

Wow the last guy clearly had bias against cats to make all of these terrible assumptions. "red eyes watching me", "horrid creatures" and "little monsters" the hell you talking about? those are just cats not massive dogs. Clearly their owner died and they starved for weeks. Even humans cannibalized one another for survival. And you know what? If my cats needed to eat my dead body to survive, then so be it. It'll be my last gift to them and they can have it.

@UnfazedPhoenix

Yea it makes sense. Children are loud, grabby, they move fast and they're much bigger to the chihuahua. Honestly, no matter how good and well trained a dog is I think kids should always be supervised around them and I love dogs (I have a beautiful border collie aussie mix) You see these videos of people letting their babies crawl face to face with a dog (especially large dogs) and it's just not worth it. The dog is still an animal and it takes one second for a life changing bite to happen.

I get it but the guy didn't really have a choice with the coyote. It was the coyote or his own dog. The moose yea, they went out on a stupid hunting trip for no reason. At that point they had to do something to prevent it from killing everyone but they brought it on themselves. It's sad the moose died.

There's a name term for when and animal eats a deceased person or other animal: "postmortem predation". I'm sure many of us who share our lives with animals (as in pets- lol) would hope they would eat us after pass rather than die of starvation. What a horrible way to die. I remember about a year or so ago reading a question someone had posted on Quora about a woman who died and her little dog did the same thing. She loved her dog dearly but the family was really disturbed by it and felt conflicted over whether to keep or euthanize the dog.

I follow a pathologist on IG and a few weeks ago she had a pic of a guy that passed and the dog got to him. Sure enough the face was eaten being it’s usually exposed part of the body. Pretty awful. Let alone that case a while back where the family owned a weasel and one night it maimed the baby’s face...

I don't blame the animals. I found out that babies smell a lot like rabbits to predators like Weasels and Ferrets. That's why they do that.

I’ve heard stories of pets eating their owners and while it is gruesome asf, let’s not forget the Andes Flight Disaster when the men were forced to eat their (already dead) teammates for food Of course I am not minimizing the grotesque sight this dude must have seen but it’s important to remember that this is NOT a cat’s first line of action. They were probably waiting a couple days after their food ran out before finally getting desperate enough to eat their owner In conclusion: I understand both sides of the story

I've been chased by neighbor's dogs a few times, as well. One rottweiler practically tacoed my brother's bike wheel as we rode by. Another pair of mutts tried to encircle me (on a different solo bike ride as an adult), but I yelled at them as loud as I could and got them to back away.

I grew up in East Texas, and behind our house was Peach Creek. I was about 5 years old, and to get to our swimming hole, we walked between two high water banks, which came to about the top of my head. Whenever we walked anywhere in the woods, my dad carried either a .22 rifle or a 410 shotgun in the crook of his arm. He didn't look up in the trees, or the scenery around him, he looked at the ground in front of him, for snakes. One summer day, he and my mom were walking behind me as we headed to the creek. I was walking between the banks, and noticed movement out of the corner of my left eye, something lunging at me. As I barely turned my head, there was an explosion and chunks of something hitting my head. I turned, and there was what remained of a 6 foot water moccasin with its head a bloody mess. My dad had sat down hard behind me, tears filling his eyes. My mom was shocked, but came out of it to hug my dad, and tell him, "She's OK. You shot it's head off." Daddy looked at her and said, "But, what if I'd missed?" My Daddy didn't miss. He didn't see the snake until it had reared back to strike, had brought the gun up, barely aiming, and at a distance of about 10 feet, shot it. With the .22.
