Unit 731 committed what must be the worst war crimes. Man Behind The Sun is a good film to watch about it. It's difficult viewing but a great example of just how cruel people can be to each other. Maruta was used as the codename of the camp as they taught the soldiers to treat the people like blocks of wood.

This one was really horrible and made me physically ill, all those sick, terrible experiments done by the Japanese. I lived in Germany in the 80s and visited some of the death camps and the ss headquarters and those places were enough to make you sick just standing on the premises. THE ATTMOSPHERE WAS PURE EVIL. Listening today brought that feeling back to me and I cried for awhile.

Thank you, Tawnya. Finally, a commenter with feelings. I too, felt physically ill. It appears that most of the comments are made by sociopaths with zero regard for innocents suffering. God bless you.

@@52ponybike I think it is more likely the supposed sociopaths dont like the historical narrative of one single evil being forced upon them. With all evils in the world people tend to focus on the one most remote from their own reality: which is why they love to hate Nazis; but will defend whatever evil they themselves are guilty of.

@ryohoshi8445
@ryohoshi8445 2 жыл бұрын
There's a few errors in the Salem Witch Trials. Off the top of my head: The Hammer of Witchcraft was a weird conspiracy-theorist rant for witch-hunters whose author claimed that a cleric was a co-author to make it reputable--apparently, the guy protested but nobody's been interested enough to stop pretending he wrote the book. Giles Corey refused to plead because if the trial got past that point, his property was entirely forfeit, traditionally to his accuser--but if he died without pleading, his heirs would still inherit. He knew he was going to die, but he wanted the best outcome for his heirs.
@unterdessen8822
@unterdessen8822 2 жыл бұрын
"The Hammer of Witches" is not a manual for witches. It's a 1486 manual for witch hunters, written by Heinrich Kramer (a churchman) in Germany. It's also known by its Latin title "Malleus Maleficarum" (literally "The Hammer for the Evil", i.e. a destructive instrument to deal with evil forces) or by its German title "Der Hexenhammer" (literally "The Witch-Hammer", i.e. the meaning is closer to "The Hammer for (the destruction of) Witches"). It IS the most definite compendium on witches, demons and other unholy forces, but its main purpose is to explain how to recognise and destroy them, not to conjure up demons. So... if Tituba was quoting *that*, she may have been closer to being a witch hunter than being a witch. I don't know how she would have gotten her hands on this book - it was very popular all over Europe and translated into many languages, but Salem in North America was a bit off the usual book salesmen's tracks. Anyway, I can imagine, that as a black or mixed woman from the Caribbean she would have adhered to a syncretic faith like Voodoo or Santeria, where Christianity mixed with African and Native American beliefs. So she may have had a very basic, literal understanding of fending off bad spirits, and if she had access to that book, she may have seen it as a source of words, that repelled evil. Meaning, she wasn't trying to cast a spell as a witch, but trying to use a protective prayer, to fend off witches.

Unit 731... any Dark Pictures fans in the audience? Especially with the location being Japan occupied Manchuria, and the details of the horrific experiments performed on POWs, I would think it's safe to say this is the place that formed the basis for the place where "Manchurian Gold" was first manufactured. The heartless manner of the experiments, the use of various viruses and vivisections, also makes me think of Resident Evil's own Umbrella corporation.

The thing about the Salem witch trials is that we can look back now and recognize extreme mental illness and even psychedelic use. The theory goes that on their harvest that year, the conditions were just right in the storehouse for psychedelic growth. People were tripping, and on top of it all the power complex of the church was tearing a hole in itself

10:58 No one gonna mention how the scarecrow on the right looks like Greg from the Disney+ Diary of a Wimpy Kid movie?

Thank you for these. The unit one I knew nothing about and I tend to read history books and watch documentaries. Also didn’t have an idea of the lore of the island of the dolls. Only knew it existed but not the reason why.

Great reading style. In addition, I find the images of a skull in an space suit both on your logo and your live presentations to be very nightmarish.

I’m not done listening yet. I just got through the Unit experiments. I’m shook and will probably think about it for a long time 😞
