If you read the description, probably you would be able to guess why murshidabadi was picked for this song. They dropped this one on world music day conveying the message that music has no boundaries. From that perspective it makes sense that arnob picked a song from the other side of the border and a singer as well, and together it has been merged into a yet another masterpiece from CSB that conveys the message of harmony in diversity through co-existence.

Hammad and Haris - Guys, there is a lot to say for the work you are doing. Hard to really express in words but suffice to say that your reaction, analysis, commentary, whatever you want to call it, is the best around and it’s not even close. Sure, people enjoy the music but I’ve seen your growth from the earlier videos and I can only commend how you have taken the time to educate yourselves and learn more about these artists, genre, origins, etc. this makes your discussions so meaningful and thoughtful and, honestly, for most of us, educational in some ways. I also want to say, and this is for the music you do outside of coke studio, you guys do an amazing job. We all know and love coke studio (all countries, versions) but I have learned about some really good bangla music thanks to your coverage/discussions. Kind of crazy but it shows the impact and reach you guys have and are creating. Thank you for doing this. I am a big fan. Keep up the great work!

Lalon has perfected our Bengali language through his songs. He was born in a Hindu family. When he went on a pilgrimage on the orders of the zamindar of the area, he contracted smallpox. The people declared him dead and floated him in the river Ganga. And he came floating from India to Kushtia district of Bangladesh. When a Muslim woman saw him there, she took care of him and healed him After recovering, Lalon went to his house and told about his past. His neighbors accuse him of giving place to Muslims in their homes and taking food from Muslims, saying that "Lalon's caste is gone . Angered and saddened, Lalon left his family, religion and society and returned to Kushtia district of Bangladesh. When we listen to the songs, our souls still get excited.
@aharnishchowdhury34742 жыл бұрын
This is more of a fiction than fact. Lalon was born in Bengal and supposedly East Bengal in Jhenaidah, Bangladesh. There are many fiction about Lalon and Sunil Gangopadhyay popularized this one. No one actually knows for sure what happenned. You watched it in a movie and took it for real.
@mathew18122 жыл бұрын
it's fiction .. about his religion, none knows ..It is not known whether he was born in a Hindu or a Muslim family. Lalon had no formal education. One account relates that Lalon, during a pilgrimage to the temple of Jagannath with others of his native village, he contracted smallpox and was abandoned by his companions on the banks of the Kaliganga River, from where Malam Shah and his wife Matijan, members of the weaver community in a Muslim-populated village, Cheuriya, took him to their home to convalesce. They gave Lalon land to live where he founded a musical group and remained to compose and perform his songs, inspired by Siraj Sain, a musician of that village. Lalon lost sight in one of his eyes.Researchers note that Lalon was a close friend of Kangal Harinath, one of the contemporary social reformers and a disciple of Lalon. Lalon lived within the zamindari of the Tagores in Kushtia and had visited the Tagore family. It is said that zamindar Jyotirindranath Tagore sketched the only portrait of Lalon in 1889 in his houseboat on the river Padma. Lalon died at Chheuriya on 17 October 1890 at the age of 118. The news of his death was first published in the newspaper Gram Barta Prokashika, run by Kangal Harinath. Lalon was buried at the middle of his dwelling place known as his Akhra.

To his last breath of life, Fakir Lalon Shah (1774-1890) preached humanity over religion. He composed and sang thousands of songs on the concepts of humanity, the inner meaning of life, and finding the true God. Lalon thought that God keeps Himself hidden as the soul inside the human body. He was a true philosopher and left hundreds of thousands of baauls and followers.

Everyone ask Lalon (17th Century poet and philosopher of Bangla region); which caste or religion do you belong to? He ask them back - "how does a caste look? I was born without a caste". Kabir Das (14th Century poet of Uttar Pradesh) the other poet wrote water in different pot is still nothing but water. Key message is universal humanity without any form of man made discrimination.

You know what I love about you guys? I have been listening to these songs for 30+ years, so the "fusion" feels jarring on first listen. For example, it's hard to stomach the urban serenity of saxophone with a Lalon song that is so iconoclastic. You guys give me the perspective of someone who's listening to it for the first time. Coke studio usually does a good job with English lyrics, but this one seemed a bit off. I would do something like this-- Some wear rosaries around their necks, some wear tasbih-- That makes you divide them up in castes*? Who wears the sign of a caste when we come or go? Everyone wonders What caste does Lalon belong to? Lalon says, "I am yet to see with my own eyes how caste looks like." All the people in the world flaunt their castes anywhere Lalon says, "I sold out of my caste-pride in the bazaar of life**. * Here Lalon uses the word "jaat", in the context of the region this goes beyond religious id, jaat defines your position in a stratified society. I would translate this as "caste". ** Lalon repeatedly uses the term Shadhbajar -- a market of Sadhna. It's a Baul term. This is an allegory for life-- you sell your work, your thoughts, your youth, and you buy the riches of life and meet other people (and search for yourself, or the elevated state of yourself, "Moner Manush".)

Something came to my mind which I think need to be share as you guys are talking about poetry, You mentioned ‘This type of poetry rare this days’ but I would say if you look around the poetry specifically these people ‘Lalon Shai, Baul shah Abdul Karim, Hason Raja, Kazi Nazrul, Naz khialvi, Ameer minai or Robi Thakur and some more you could see they wrote something which is at least couple off hundred years ahead off their time. Some of the song you feel like it’s written yesterday if imagine the current environmental and geopolitical scenario. Now a days who have got that kinda guts to write a song like this. Now nobody can think about them lyrics. They did because they were saint and pure by their heart. They are truthful inside them. Some song are hundreds years old but which relates 50 years ago, today even it will relate 50 years later. BTW You guys are doing great job, at least have the knowledge to discuss about the topics you’re talking about. Keep going. Thank you, Stay safe
