Nice vid, Myk! I typically use JS: Volume/ Pan Smoother v5 instead of JS: Volume adjustment.

Hi Myk! Honestly I did not mess around with containers until now. I did not see the need to make my own channel strips, because I like the 3rd party ones I have, though I dig the idea of this being possible. THEN it occured to me that I can make my own containers including several types of one effect, like several reverbs, several tape emulations, several go to compressors, so I can reach for them (via my own toolbar icon, ha!), to try them out. So: if I already know, I am gonna need some type of saturation, but cannot decide which one yet, I can insert my saturation container (all the fx muted to be safe) and try them one by one and this is super quick and super convenient, and I like it and wanted to thank you for the inspiration.

I discovered one of the most powerful ways to use Reaper containers is for Nebula libraries. As great as they sound, the annoying thing about Nebula plugins are the way all the components are split apart as individual plugins. Containers completely solves this problem in a perfectly elegant and usable manner. They are now easy to retrieve as a single stacked plugin instead of individually. It's a complete game changer for anyone who uses Nebula libraries.

I've been looking into Nebula libraries recently, so I'll definitely keep this tip in mind. Thanks!

like the container feature. I use it to make my own fx strips for drums . It makes workflowfast and provides a good starting point when mixing.

Love it. For even more workflow goodness, tie your channel strip controls to a MIDI controller so that each important parameter is always right at your fingertips. Possibly you're already doing that, Myk?

Hi Myk! The fluctuation parameter gives a certain stereo activity (slight fluctuation in the panorama), more noticeable in originally mono sounds. It is common in channel strips. Thanks for sharing your great work!

Another trap for new players with JS Volume Adjustment is that it has a limiter that defaults to being on. So if you're, say, boosting something into a clipper using it, you also want to increase that second parameter to disengage the limiting.

Wait what? Isn't that just a simple utility to undo the excess gain of an FX that did not implement output? I feel though that Reaper should have a built-in output knob for each FX.
@wenglish1968
@wenglish1968 5 ай бұрын
@@drrodopszin or boost. That's exactly what this plugin does. and JSFX are Reaper plugins. There's no slot without a plugin to have a a knob. This is probably the optimal way to handle the situation.

@@oswaldtehseal471 Haha, I’m definitely on that curve. Don’t think I’ll ever got back to all-stock, but I’m back to about 50/50 at this point. And knowing I can help orient new recordists & mixers with all-stock tools in a low/no-cost DAW is pretty amazing.

I use effect containers like software developers make functions: group a couple of actions that belong together and name them accordingly. For example my "Consistency" container might contain a couple of compressors in serial. Or the "Vibe" container might contain saturation + volume adjustment (for example Verve by UAD does not have adjustable gain). I keep the levels the same so then I can turn these on/off and hear if I actually improved the track or not.

great video as always! i'm interested in learning more about using containers for parallel effects processing and how it works - i get the concept but some interesting examples of applications would be cool. Any chance of expanding on that in the future? ps your hair is lookin RAD!

Hey! Thanks for the video. Hadn't heard of fx containers yet. I'm wondering, could you spell out for me what you think the advantages are of using a container, versus just loading the chain of fx directly? Is it purely organizational, to keep thing tidy, and to give you a simple way to bypass all?
@LetsTalkAboutReaper
@LetsTalkAboutReaper 5 ай бұрын
@@pietrosammarco6225 the true power is in some of the more advanced parallel processing with additional pins (in/out channel routing for the plugins), which I really didn't go into. Plus you can create presets for that whole signal chain as opposed to individual presets for the components that make up the container.

Be careful with that JS/Volume plugin. It has a built in hard clipper if you hit 0db. I much prefer the one called JS/volume_pan_sample_accurate_auto (also called Volume/Pan Smoother v5). That is just a straight volume knob that doesn't clip if you go over 0.

Why are a lot of people making tutorials these days using 4k resolution? Not all of us use massive screens and I'm tired of squinting to see what's going on. If your making a tutorial, stick with 1920x1080 or zoom on to the relevant area so we can see what you're doing
@LetsTalkAboutReaper

@@synaesthesia2010 I think it's just that more people HAVE 4K monitors these days. Admittedly, sometimes I think about the zooming in and out, other times I don't, depending on what I'm showing. For example, I this video, I think you could follow along with just the audio because everything I'm showing is pretty easily located in stock menus. But to your point, I could do better with that sometimes, for sure. At any rate, thanks for at least attempting to check out the video, even if it wasn't ideal for your viewing situation.
