As a young man I had an ostomy for several years. I continued with my sport of surfing with the appliance under my wetsuit, on numerous occasions it would be come off when worked over by a wave, but with the physical activity my gut was usually quiet. To make lying on my belly to paddle comfortable I created an indent in the top of the board to accommodate the stoma. There was another young man I surfed with that also had an ostomy, He’d had a motorcycle accident and lost his left leg above the hip, rectum and genitals. There is always someone less fortunate than one’s self.

When I got my first stoma back in 1991 I was 23 and I found a bikini that had these cute ruffles on it. I remember showing my ostomy nurse my bikini and it was the first time she had ever seen an ostomy patient with a bikini.

Maggie, first, amazing! You look great! Also… I needed to hear this so badly today!!!! I have lost 30 pounds since getting my ostomy 6 months ago. I have always had hips and curves on the lower half of my body and now I am so skinny now I basically see ribs up top and am flat the rest of the way down. It is hard for me to look at my face in the mirror because I feel like it has aged me 20 years. Nearly every time I am going through something, feeling something, having an issue, so ironically a video you made will come up and make me feel so much better!!! Thanks!!!!!❤

First, I'm a not so young male with IBD. There are aspects of the disorder that frankly frighten me. Still though Maggie, all hats off to you for your courage and insight. I belong to an IBD support group several of whom have ostomies. I do not [yet] have one and hope I don't get to that point. However, watching some of the videos of your journey makes me less apprehensive should I need that level of surgery. I commend your loving and supportive husband; together you two make a great team, and individually you each are a force to be reckoned with. I'm a father of a girl (married now) and a grandfather of girls. I'm aware of the concerns, anxieties, and false ideas that contribute to harmful body images young women face. I'm seeing this already in my girls, and it frightens me. Fortunately they have good parents who are well grounded. You should absolutely enjoy your outings without any regrets nor regards for (ignorance?) of other people. You may just in fact be lending strength and courage to others on the beach facing similar medical conditions. Keep making the world beautiful!

You said that you felt that you looked good and felt confident. Know what? It showed. By the way you walked out, you exude confidence and knew that you LOOK GOOD. And, yes your husband thought you looked real good too. His "right away" response to the white suit was so real. And he liked the next one as well. All four are good. Second and third are wow. Fourth is good, as you say, for swimming. So cute. Have fun. Don't forget the sunscreen!

When I got my ileostomy I went and bought a couple of high waisted bikinis, not too different to yours, but I just don't have the confidence to wear them! Great choices in color, style and structure! You look amazing in Al of them! You are so right about taking the time to find the clothes that make you feel comfortable and confident. EVERYONE (whether they have an ostomy or not) have something about themselves that makes you feel uncomfortable. When you find clothing that looks good, you feel good about yourself and comfortable wearing them.

My daughter had a major abdominal surgery at 4 days old. I always told her be proud of that scar it’s the reason you’re alive. And now at 28 she wears what ever with pride.

Gurl... you're GORGEOUS! I like them all but the White one is very elegant and i feel like it's the most flatrring shape but not by far! How ever, I could see it for a pool party and it gives less beachy/ocean vibes. The bikinis are so beautiful! I love how the legs of the Victoria's secret's ones highlights your legs! Very flattering. I'm so happy you can feel confident in bikinis...! High waste is a God sent. I don't know how we survived the 2000's with low waist. I'm never going back! 🤣 Thank you for all the joy and body positivity. I don't know much about stomas and chron's disease; I'm here for your personality (but learning along the way, yay!). Your work is important, I'm sure for people leaving with IBD but as someone who doesn't have it, I can tell, you're touching a lot of people with other disabilities. Thank you 💜

I feel you in the “chest left behind” part Except I hit 21 realized they weren’t going anywhere and decided to enhance them. Best decision ever, about to have them replaced ((it’s been almost 20 years since I did this)). Not a decision for everyone but I was tired of having my wide hips and no tatas lol so I ran with it :) You’re beautiful regardless never forget that!!

I have just found your channel and absolutely adore you and Ur content during a emergency surgery after my hysterectomy at 33 they accidentally cut my bowel lucky I had a great surgeon who was able to repair it so I only lost my sigmoid colon. I have crohns disease . No oestomy bag. But a rather long scar , The first operation was when I was 20 years old. 5 major ops - resections and then a few minor for fistulas I have always worn bikinis . And show my scar off with pride ,like you. I am slim and refuse to hide my figure . Do people look? I honestly can t tell you as I focus on me and my children .My partner like yours is always saying, "Wow 👌 . So, yep, enjoy your trip and wear those gorgeous swimsuits with pride hun . I’m so incredibly happy for you! You look fa-bu-lous! I’m going on a three weeks vacation on Saturday and my search for swimwear was agony. The enormous prolapse of my ostomy (inoperable) and the placement leave me nothing but Tankinis with a wide top. I haven’t found a single one that I liked. There might be hundreds where I live (not the US), but the patterns and colours are simply vile. Example: uneven chevrons in purple, mustard and green. Every pattern looks like a cleaning apron from the 70s that an 80-years old lady would wear.

I'm 64. In my whole life I have never been able to try on four swimsuits and have them all fit, never mind look that great. (favorites are 1 and 3 BTW). I'm "normal" weight and height. I'd say one in 10 are passable for me. 1 in 20 are decent. 1 in 50 are great. So you go girl!!! get them allllllll

Maggie, I love your channel and your bathing suites. I have Crohn's Disease and Hydrocephalus, among other things. I've found that my most recent VP shunt valve is very noticable. There's nothing that I can really do to hide it, that's comfortable. Therefore, I've just learned to embrace it. Like your ostomy, my valve isn't going anywhere. Unless it's switched for a different model. Most adult valves are more bigger and more noticable. Keep being who you are, sharing your wisdom and content.

This video is great on many levels ❤ !!. I've had my ileostomy and mucus fistula stoma for 1 year. My stomas placement are side by side & above my bellybutton. I lived on the beach most of my life and miss it so much. I am presently in search of the right one piece swim suit. I will be seriously nervous going to one of my favorite places on the planet and have spent so much time at. Still, the beach is calling me and I have to get back to it. I know that getting back in the ocean will make me feel brand new/ like me again 🙂. The white one piece is gorgeous and looks great on you. I'm leaning towards a busy print with lots of colors to feel comfortable for the first time back to my beach, just typing this is giving me anxiety. Lol .
