Quick Google Search Shows Merida is Latin and means "high place of honor". Some but few shots claim it's scits-gaelic. Also, it's a city in Mexico. Where pearl comes from idk. But it's not made up, nor is it American. But hey .. There are lots of sources for names, and lots of meanings...
