Greetings to Ethiopia from a Oriental Orthodox Copt from Egypt. Historically the Ethiopian and Nubian kingdoms would speak on our behalf to the rulers whenever us Copts faced hardships after the Arab invasion. Forever thankful to your people
@seesee21324 ай бұрын
Never knew that, so the copt church was forced to completely cut ties with European church’s after ottoman rule? Also how were the copts able to contact Ethiopian church’s, if the ottomans and Ethiopians were in conflict?
@epchoisnainan11104 ай бұрын
@@seesee2132 ifs not just Ottoman rule which came later on but since the earliest caliphates in the 7th century. The Coptic and Ethiopian Orthodox churches would send messengers to each other, at times secretly since some caliphates forbade our communication with them, big we had to do it because the Coptic Pope had to constantly appoint a new Metropolitan for Ethiopia, who then was the one who would then crown every Ethiopian emperor and manage the church in Ethiopia

@@seesee2132 ties with the European churches weren’t the same since Copts arent in communion with any except the Armenian church which is Oriental Orthodox like we are, so limitations on ties to Europes churches didn’t effect us much. Ethiopia was my accident too. 😀 I had never visited Africa before and was invited to a conference in Addis. That's when our other big customer asked whether we had, by any chance, someone from my team in Addis just the week before my conference... Well, you're a VERY lucky one here. I of course took the opportunity to visit Lalibela and other places. Unlike Barb, I prefer rural areas. They're more authentic, less polluted and I feel the country a lot more than in places like Addis. I also visited Addis pre-pandemic and came back recently. The city evolved a lot. Regardless, Ethiopians are great people and I really enjoy working with them.

@@GeographyNow as an Ethiopian, I would like to point out at 11:00, when you said "...get out of the "Amhara land" and go to the city of Adama, into the neighboring Oromia region..." that's technically wrong. Because the capital city of Addis Ababa is inside the Oromia region. You'll see plenty of people argue that it's not an Oromo city and all, which is politics and I'm not even interested in that kind of discussion, because I couldn't care less. I'm just pointing out the fact that if you go and watch any map on the internet, you'll see that the city is literally situated inside the region of Oromia. It's not even bordering the Amhara region, let alone being an "Amhara land". It's surrounded by Oromo land to the north, south, east and west. It's just not considered part of the Oromia region, but instead called a city administration because it's the Capital City. And since it's a land of 80+ ethnic groups, the capital city not being confined to a single region, is a political fair play in my opinion. So yeah, I think it's misleading to the people that are watching your channel when you call the Addis Ababa area an "Amhara land". As a fellow subscriber and long time fan of your amazing work, I felt the urge to make this correction. Peace and love ❤

Great video! A few clarifications 1. Godjo means a thatched house and each tribe has their own style of building it 2. Harrar is not a ethnic group but a city 2. Kitfo has to be minced beef mixed with clarified butter and traditional spices. You had the cubed meat which is “koort sega”. 3. The Ethiopian donut is actually an Italian influence called “bombolino”. 4. The banana root paste is actually not from a banana tree. Though it resembles it, it is known as the false banana tree & originates from the lowlands of Ethiopia.

Good points though I have somethings to correct you and add some additional comments of my own as well but first let me appreciate the work and it was beautiful presentation and thanks! coming back to my correction on @mindingmanners2470 ==> You are right Hara is a city but there is also a regional state, which is the smallest, in Ethiopia Called Harari following the Harari people and their capital city is called Harar. For the content creator the comment I have is that your work is fantastic and I have some points to pick for you #1. this is the easiest one, where you mixed up 'Kitfo' with 'Kurt', the thing you were enjoying is called 'Kurt'. #2. I think its around minute 11:05 , while heading to Adama, you mentioned about leaving Amhara land and I was curious wasn't the crew in Addis, how did Amhara land came to view, As a Geography page, even if we don't use is as a reference, you were in the Capital of Ethiopia, Addis Ababa and headed to Adama, you have never been in Amhara land... I don't how you brought it in to the picture.
