Now that's some classic old school acting by Bill Wendell. A+

Bill Wendell was already quite the seasoned veteran prior to working with Dave. He had been a staff announcer with NBC since 1955, but not before he put in three years with the now defunct DuMont network.

Due to sheer volume, and the fact that I didn't start watching Letterman until 88' at the age of 13, there's an absolute ton of great skits I missed out on. The anniversary shows helped, as did watching the syndicated episodes on KTLA when they broadcast old Letterman in the late afternoon, but this channel here is THE BUSINESS. :) Thanks to everyone who has helped, and is continuing is to help with and contribute to.

I love these old "Late Night" clips. Late night TV needs David Letterman again.

I have loved David Letterman for more than 40 years! I wish he would come back to late night TV..... I truly believe his show would get the highest ratings out of everyone! 👍😎

Love this segment, hilarious! And the second part with Larry “Bud” Melman”-who really knows his obscure music history-is even funnier!

This whole sequence shows the influence of the late great Ernie Kovacs on Dave’s writing staff. Very wonderful and very Kovacsian. Coincidentally, Bill Wendell was Ernie’s announcer when the Ernie Kovacs Show was on N.B.C. (1956).

Great clip--don't think I saw that one back in the day. I believe that "tour" was down in the underground shopping bazaar below Rockefeller Center. I used to wander around there when I first started working in NYC in 1990 or so.

Now that's how you do a post-credits scene. Take note, Marvel.

This clip is very foreshadowing... Wendell ended up getting fired because he stole bottled water from the Late Show according to Robert "Morty Bob" Morton....
