Well, William Friedkin died today...William Peter Blatty died in 2017, but I'm guessing Friedkin never appeared on Letterman, so this interview is the next best thing. The book Blatty's promoting, Legion, became The Exorcist III, which he himself directed in 1990. The studio wanted it to be tied into The Exorcist mythology to make it more marketable, so they forced Blatty to include an exorcism scene at the end, which in retrospect feels very forced and removed from the rest of the story. Still an underrated horror film with great performances from George C. Scott, Jason Miller and Brad Dourif. RIP to both Williams.

Technically he directed Exorcist III in 1989. It was released in 1990.

I think the studio helped him. I’ve seen both versions and the one released in 90’ is better. The directors cut works as a book but makes for a very anti-climatic end.

@@KungEMuller yeah, it started with bill o’reilly beating colbert in the ratings after dave left and soon after trevor noah and others just started doing half politics half jokes. the only current thing i halfway follow is conans podcast, but im not much of a fan of that format. he does good charlie rose style interviews though.

I have the The Exorcist on audible, it's read by the Author himself.
@stevebell4853
@stevebell4853 14 күн бұрын
Me too. It is a rare case of an audiobook being just as entertaining as the movie, if not more so. Blatty does the character voices almost better than the actual actors from the movie, he really puts his soul into it. He's got such a chilling voice too, even in just the narrative parts where he's reading as himself, its a very gravelly voice perfect for setting the dark atmosphere, but also Regan's parts as the demon, he's just a natural. Even when he's reading as Kinderman. It's all just perfect. I wish I could get him to narrate all my favourite audiobooks, he would have nailed them all. For sure though, the Exorcist audiobook read by Blatty is legendary and one of the most favourite items of media I've collected in all the years I've been collecting movies, e-books and audiobooks - thats a standout piece.
