My father was 15 when he when he joined the Navy and went to fight in World War II. Grandma & grandpa had 16 kids they lived in a two story house on the Missouri River that was made out of two wooden rail road box cars when the Japanese bombed pear harbor dad ran away lied about his age and joined the navy. He has been gone a long time. I am so glad he is not around to see the country he would have sacrificed his life for

All the America people getting rid of our history of the civil war should be made to listen to these letters, they fought and gave their life’s for something they believed in at that time. You HAVE NO RIGHT to take this from the Americans !

I'm glad that you enjoyed it. Doing this sort of microhistory was probably the most fun and fulfilling part of my Master's degree.

So many young boys on the Confederate and Union sides had the false pretenses in their minds of the Civil War being adventurous, a chance to prove manhood before their time.. it's a sad way to face bravery, and for what?
