This one slays me. Every time. My husband and I raised foster sons for years. Some came, some went. A few stayed. One In Particular became OUR son. After high school he joined the army. Became a Ranger. 101st airborne. 4 tours before he was 25. Every time I hear this song I cry. I worried for him every single day. Beautiful song.

This song always got me . I was in Desert Storm , and the very best thing was Mail Call , and getting letters ( and packages ) from home . That was in 90-91 , so I'm sure it's different now with email and Skype and other forms of electronic information , but then a handwritten letter literally meant the world . You got to escape that Desert and go home in your mind and soul for a little while . Thanks Ty for this day for Vets , it means a lot.

Thank you for your service brother. I was there with you, A-Btry 94th FA MLRS 1st AD. I can not agree more about mail call there. My parents sent a letter a day. Mom would write on the front and dad on the back. They had my info posted in the local paper and I got hundreds of letters from people I did not know showing their support. I kept every single letter and planned to respond to each once I got home. One of my biggest life regrets was the water proof bag I had everything in broke loose from my track and got left someplace in the desert and I lost all of the information from those great people.

@@susana5052 thank you for replying and your welcome it was my pleasure to serve this great nation i would do it all over again if they would let me. I'm sorry for the loss of your dad there isn't any pain greater than losing a parent. It was such a blessing getting those care packages from people back home and thanks to everyone for sending letters and the support here at home. You can keep in touch with me on fb.

My Husband's son was in the Navy and while he deployed in his submarine for six months there were no letters we could send but there were a certain number of forms for telegrams the family could fill out. My Husband's ex-wife gave us a couple of them and that was good of her. But I'll never forget Hub and I filling them out and wondering... When would he receive them? In mine, the first line was "How's your Tan?!" He and I still laugh about that. Happy Veterans Day is every day. Be well.

The dads letter.... I didn’t get to spend a lot of time with my dad growing up. My mom wouldn’t let me until I turned 17. Our relationship is very tough because we missed so much time apart. The day I left for Basic Training three thing happened as he dropped me off. He told me that he was proud of me ( he hadn’t said that before) he told me he loved me (only heard that a couple times.), the last thing happened as I got out of the car.... he gave me a huge hug as tears ran down his face.

In the 70s Dad was stationed at the DMZ in Korea for a year. Yep, its still there and there are still potshots taken. I was 5, brother was 3 and baby sister was a month old when he went on deployment. We used to send cassette tape letters so he got to hear our voices and we could hear him. Fast forward to desert storm, a friend in the Marines was over there and letters on school notebook paper. A few more years and its more friends and stationary. I can safely say those letters BACK home are just as important.

Please react to The Band Steele's "Sit Awhile".. I usually don't comment on these channels but you actually react and talk real life things about the videos and relate it to your life.. This song means so much to me I lost my big brother Thomas that served in the National Guard on January 21st, 2017 unexpectedly, not from war but still unexpected at only 33 years old and it tears me up every day and this song has helped me through it, and I take the meaning of the song not as a brother to brother that you served with but just as a little brother dealing with life without his big brother and knowing that the words in the song is what he would tell me if I could just sit with him one more time and talk.... Thank you for making these videos! You are amazing!

A woman I used to work with once owned a bar in West Virginia.... she FIRED him... he was in a rock band and he wouldn't listen when she kept telling him to turn his equipment down... small venue and big sound don't work. He wouldn't, so she kicked him out. She once told me she was glad he finally found out where his voice belonged... and didn't sing as loud, but she still didn't like him! LOL

This song should put a lump in everyone throat. While trying to clear out my parents estate I came across the shoe box full of letters my Mom and Dad wrote back and forth when he was stationed as a B-17 pilot in England during World War II. I miss them both so much but I happen to know they are together in heaven. Just wish the handwriting was a little easier to read.
