We love our peaceful days at sea but our most memorable moments are always the ones shared with friends. Which is why this week we decided to take all our new Filipino friends sailing. Because they have shared so much of their world with us, now we want to show them a little of ours.
_______________________________
WE’RE JASON AND NIKKI WYNN. A couple of explorers, modern-day documentarians, and cultivators of curiosity.
We’ve been chasing our curiosity around the world on wheels and keels since 2011. Why? Because curiosity is the key to unlocking life. It pushes us outside our comfort zone, softens our assumptions, and helps us embrace the great unknown. The more we let our curiosity lead the way, the more we discover about ourselves and the world around us.
Things We're Most Curious About...
GETTING OFF-GRID
Our home is also our transportation and we spend weeks away from civilization and sometimes land. So self-reliance and sustainable living are a must. We've learned heaps about renewable energy, managing waste, creating safe drinking water and foraging for food. We carefully manage our resources and we’re always looking for new and better ways to do so.
TALKING TO STRANGERS
People are busy (even on remote islands) and travelers are a dime a dozen. It takes time to talk to strangers, and even more time to have a real connection. Going the extra mile to get to know someone is a commitment.
Which is why these are our most treasured experiences. Setting off into the world with curiosity as our guide and nature as our compass. We talk to strangers and accept hospitality without fear or reservations. Both giving and receiving.
ALTERNATIVE LIVING
These are people who are doing things differently. Forgoing the mainstream, seeking freedom and living on the margins. Creative, unique and inspiring people who challenge our ideas of home and community.
Our journey is ever-evolving but the mission remains the same: #CultivateCuriosity

It felt just as nice for us as a viewer as it did for your friends to share your day. The preparation and your shopping trip made it even more real. To see a local market, and even the supermarkets was a new and different experience. The care and attention that you had to take in order not to introduce bugs or other nasty things onto the boat was something I hadn’t really considered. Thank you.

Good call. A bungee or other stretch cord would reduce shock-loading and make it more likely to arrest the fall and keep the bag attached, than just tear off the handle with the momentum of the fall.

Pls take time to talk with local fishermen on how to fish, what fish are biting and show you how to make your fishing rig. Purchase your fishing materials available at the nearby local fishing supplies market bringing along the list recommended by the local fishermen and let them set it up for you. You'll need this throughout your journey. Video your catch and cook and dining, a lot of viewers will be interested to view the scenes. Enjoy the bounty of the sea! It's always fresh and healthy to have. Squids are always bountiful and easy to catch + you'll love the squid rings and fried sun dried squids to go with your favorite drinks. Don't forget to learn how to prepare kinilaw, equivalent to somewhat local sushi with fresh coconut milk, lime, hot chili pepper etc. Search on KZbin, you'll have plenty to discover... love your channel!

Love living vicariously through you guys 🥰 bit of a tip for transferring fuel without spilling any is to extend the filling nozzle with a longer hose the same diameter as the nozzle and a secure it with a clip, if you set this up with one of your existing nozzles you should still be able to use the other ones as normal. Always worked really well with Jerrycans for me I had a fuel filler situated in a summoner position on my boat, certainly made life a lot easier and safer. Hope that helps 😃 PS love that you had the locals onboard ❤️

For the jerry jugs I would find a suitable ball valve that you can screw between the jug and the spout. Close the valve, put the jug flat on the deck, put the spout into the diesel port and open the valve a crack. The fuel will just slowly drain into the tanks with no further input from you.

Diesel: Jupiter2 use a funnel with a mesh, makes fuelling much easier. Polishing your fuel is great and all, but not having grot in the tanks in the first place is a much better option.

Here in the US, we call the first greens you cooked, Red Malabar Spinach. It is a vine. And is wonderful to grow on cattle panel arches! A few plants planted on both sides, will completely cover the 17 ft long arch:).

For the folding jerry cans you need to copy what some of Canada does for bagged milk. To pour liquid out of a soft container just have a reusable hard sided container to set the soft container into when you tip it, so you have the structure to support it. I don’t imagine something like that exists, but it would be easy to DIY!

I know I'm talking out of my A$$, on the diesel transfer part, but the first things I thought of was a large mouth funnel. Then I thought maybe some kind of extension hose to finally a mechanical pump transfer device. They make them either powered or manual operated. Again, I've never been on a boat where you didn't just pull up to the fuel dock and pump it straight in the tank.. But I am sure there are a lot of reasons for any of those suggestions will not work for you that I am just not aware of. What a great time by all involved all the same! That's great to see you guys enjoying your life as you do. Another "Win" for the "Wynns". :)

I like the Keenan. I would build a mixing tank; either a large fill cone or bucket hose system with a large enough outlet to allow full pump flow. Ideally, place Valvtect Biogaurd contact bactericide in the fuel cans , funnel, or bucket before adding to tanks. After eight hours put the Biobor Jf growth disruptor direct in tank. Then Polish.😊

Nikki. If you have room put your dry goods in the freezer for 12-24 hours and it will kill anything in them. After, take them out and you will be free of any bugs. Of course, you can do smaller amounts until you get them all done. Hello from California

That was so thoughtful of you to take them sailing. Gener is a traditionalist, he harkes to the old ways and that's where his heart is. I can see the huge amount of joy in his eyes when he lifts anchor and starts a sail on his boat. I think his way has a lot of merit and I hope that when he passes' his knowledge down to the next generation , it doesn't get left behind or lost. the other guy I appologize I didnt catch his name. he is a more modernist and he said maybe soon he will be able to get a catamaran and start his adventures with his family.

The two of you are just wonderful humans. I've watched for years, and you take me away to beautiful places. Fully aware, the absolute messy, unfathomable, scary, and just plain shity situations you two have gone through, which we don't see. What we do is magical, and you can see the love the two of you have for each other. Simply, you guys like each other. Anywhoo...keep being the rad humans you are and safe travels.
