Good info. But sounds complicated. I looked briefly into it and saw the Dellware thought it sounded a bit odd - good thing the lawyer brought it up. I figure if yr boat is registered with America then you can have firearms on board without too much trouble, good for pirates etc... US with all their taxes want to give the money to their corrupt buddy Dictator Zelensky & his cronies to stuff their pockets. How bout register with Russia and Russian insurance, the insurance would b cheap / honest and the way things are going print out a Russian passport etc... with picture of nuclear weapon going off - and any prospective country should be bowing before you - dusting the walkway in front of you with feathers etc......

Marshall Islands has always been my choice for a registration. When the time comes, I will go with your lawyer. Good information. Good choice for a Flag. Nice looking flag too.

Canadian yacht insurance, easy to get but with major limitation if you are on the Pacific. You can only cruise between Tacoma and Juneau and 20 NM west of the mouth of the Straight of Juan De Fuca. 1 company will allow more range after 5 years with them but you must arrange that before departing your home port. The same insurance providers will let you sail from the Alaska Yukon border on the Arctic Ocean to the Caribbean from day 1 of your insurance, no 5 year wait. Because the insurance has a hate on for my home region I will never flag a yacht in Canada, the Government lets them discriminate without repercussion.

Just to make it more interesting. In reality The Marshall Islands register is actually in Delaware :-)! Most flags of convenience are used to save money on tax and evade regulations the companies technically give up on protection by the flag state's navy - not usually a problem. I have to say the chances of the Marshall Islands Navy turning up if you get in trouble. At somepoint someone may well get fed up with the flags of convenience and legislate on it.

To me, you two are living on a waterborne UFO. I grew up sailing on a 50' topsail schooner with my dad. That would make me an 80yr old purist, but I find your cat fascinating nonetheless. Sail on!!!! (Loved your narrow boat adventure as well) Dave Hard, in landlocked Colorado

I would have thought that you would only be required to pay the tax when the boat entered th USA. At least thats how it works for Australia. I cant take my boat to Australia for a few more years to reduce tge boats value. In the mean time theres the world to explore

Why'd you spend so much money and no interior helm? This is an ocean goer, correct? I can't imagine subjecting to nasty squalls outside.

Well, I'm a little confused because the US doesn't have a sales tax on boats (or on anything). Each state levies a sales tax. I bought my boat in, and my home port is in, Rhode Island, which does not have a tax on boats. Despite the fact that my boat is a USCG documented vessel (like your previous boat), the state can require me to register it with them (and RI does). That means I have to pay a registration fee, based on length, every 2 years, and have to display a registration sticker, but I do not put a registration number on my boat because it is a documented vessel. I have, up until now, cruised exclusively in the US waters, but I have been looking at the difficulty of getting insurance for outside the US waters, and you are not understating it (especially for a 45 year old boat like mine).

Its something they look for in Florida.... a car or boat spending more than 90 days in the state without registering w/ the state.... Just be aware if you ever end up there.

It's unnatural and unhealthy to live on a boat. Also, it's expensive, difficult and hazardous. Oh and did I mention how bad it is for the environment? The creation of these menageries is horribly toxic. Sure, they make for great videos because people are so board with their lives that they watch them but... is it worth it? lol

This was a great video however as a Realtor, I will say that a condo or house will only go up in value in time, a yacht does the opposite and the price of dockage and gas and maintenance is pretty pricey on a yacht so price wise I would say that a Condo or House is a much smarter option if you are looking at it from a price point of view but outside of that, that is a beautiful yacht and that’s great that they can afford and enjoy living on a yacht. Btw I’m going based off of the yacht they have now, the last yacht they had that was around $200k, that right there sounds much more realistic however, the same concept goes, in time it will go down and you might not be able to find a $200k house but you have more than enough for a down payment on a $500k-$700k house that will only grow equity each month versus a yacht that will lose value every month. Pretty much if you are trying to figure out what is financially smarter, a house is always the way to go but if you can afford to live on a yacht then and not have to worry about it making money for you instead of losing money for you then that’s great.
