In 90's Pruszków was known as a headquarters of the mafia. In 00's most the gangsters were arrested. From that time we have a saying "Gdzie kończą się Reguły, tam zaczyna się Pruszków". Reguły is a a village next to Pruszków, but also the word that means "rules", so it means "Where Reguły ends, Pruszków begins" and also "Where the rules (of the law) end, Pruszków begins (or takes its origin)". ;) Pruszków is also known because of one of the largest Polish psychiatric hospital in Tworki, with a unique XIX-century industrial architecture that looks like a city within a city. It looks similar to Księży Młyn in Łódź with the large park with a war cemetery and some ponds inside.

The towns around Warsaw are mostly satellites - they don't really form a separate, complete entities (some people will argue otherwise in case of Pruszków and Piaseczno, maybe Wołomin). So what you're gonna get there are mostly sleeping districts, some parks and leisure areas. You were right in the video - it's cheaper to buy an apartment outside Warsaw and commute. So overall very typical layout for metropolitan areas of big cities. Silesia (Aglomeracja Górnośląska) is quite opposite, BTW. It's a group of separate cities forming what's called polycentric metropolitan area, with Katowice being the biggest of them. And Sosnowiec is a part of that pack. And at this point you know you are destined to visit Sosnowiec, can't escape it. ;)

I don't know how situation looks in Piaseczno and Pruszków but having lived in Wołomin for 20 years I can say that it has only began to be it's own entity in the last 10-5 years. Now it is something more than just a place to sleep with over 20 restaurants, shopping center, cinema and parks (though they are rather small) as well as 2 train stations with the main one having Intercity connections to most major cities in Poland without the need to change in Warsaw.

Piastów or Pruszków are only officially separated cities. More or less they are a part of Warsaw metropolitan area. As you noticed before Warsaw looks like a blend of different cities. It is like that indeed- the borders of the city were enlarged many times during last 60 years. And the city of Warsaw incorporated many of previously independent communes like Ursus (which have a border with Piastow). All in all you must consider Pruszkow and Piastow as a part of Warsaw - the have even Warsaw public transport or sewer system. If you want small cities, which can be considered as a separated entity you need to go 40 -100 from the centre of Warsaw.
@florekf2 жыл бұрын
@florekf2 жыл бұрын
