After Shirley & Euphemia, Lelouch does not seem as keen on his Geass anymore. He seems to hate Geass in general and for a time at least he uses his own Geass only sporadically.

Since we're this late in the series, I should clarify a few things about Geass. When a Geass user inherits the code of the one they made the contract with, they lose their Geass. In return, they become immortal and stop aging. They become immune to all forms of Geass and can grant the power of Geass to anyone they make a deal with. Geass isn't a power that you can use on anyone and everyone around the world. In cases like Rolo and Mao, there's a limited range they can use their power on. For Lelouch and Charles, direct eye contact is needed. No matter how strong their Geass grows, these limits don't change. C.C. still has her code. She didn't get her Geass back. She's just lost her memories.
@mskain4896

It's not true they become immune to all forms of Geass--just the Geass powers that they grant. Lelouch successfully geassed Charles in the last episode and he killed himself...which meant nothing since he is immortal.

The small realization that Lelouch was doing the recap when it was always C2 in previous episodes. On that note, C2 is little more than the young slave girl who was found by the previous keeper of her Code. Her life was awful. Hard to say how old she was (maybe 12?). And she implies she has been through several owners. Even claimed she could move corpses if needed. Is it any wonder why her Geass manifested to force people to love her? Lelouch's Geass manifests as one that takes a person's will from them, but his morals are such that he doesn't wish to take a person's will from them. It's a rather ironic twist of fate. Also, there's little benefit in forcing people to join the United Federation of Nations against their will. It's better to convince them to join for mutual benefit. And that is more in line with his ideal of making a more peaceful world for Nunnally. His Geass is more useful as a Trump card then something to rely on. Bradly is such a piece of garbage. He's the Knight of Twelve talking crap to higher ranked Knights, Suzaku and Gino, and even threatening Kallen despite being a Prisoner of War. From what the series shows, the Knights of the Round are granted positions based on accomplishments and better performances grant them higher ranks and promotions. Suzaku is the Knight of Seven due to his capture of Zero, for example. Which makes it off for him to suggest that Gino, the Knight of Three, gets by on his family name. Though, I guess Bradly is just a wrathful mad dog. The Nina subplot is coming to a head. She has been developing these weapons from very near the beginning of the series. I don't think she was trying to manipulation Suzaku, though. More that she trusted him as Euphy's Knight. However, it is as Lloyd says she is confusing a strategic weapon with a tactical weapon. For context, a tactical weapon is one you would use on the battlefield among you own troops. A strategic weapon is designed to have a major impact on your enemy's strategy and impact their capacity for war. Think a tank versus a nuclear weapon. The United Federation of Nations has been proposed and formed in the background. When they kidnapped the Empress, Lelouch was trying to explain the theories, formation, and organization to her as they left, though she couldn't really follow along. In the episodes following the resolution of the Chinese story arc, we see small examples of Xingke and the Black Knights quashing rebellion and bringing order to China. Suzaku knew Lelouch was Zero. This was more asking him to admit it to him.

Where do they keep getting this idea that Charles can use his geass on anyone, anywhere, at any time? Like he could geass the entire world if he wanted? Lelouche pointed out explicitly just an episode or two ago that eye contact was needed, when he was facing off against the emperor, and stated that the first to make eye contact wins. Besides, if Charles could use his geass that widely, then he'd already have the world in his hands.

The emperor seeked a world of only truths so he gained the power to manipulate memories because people's memories are their own personal truths. Because truth can be different from person to person depending on how they perceive and interpret the world. So he can control that variable and decide what a person's truth is. But it can also be looked at in contrast. that in search of a world of truth he has the power to create the most perfect lies. And can also be compared to real life thematically. with dictators and government structures in general having the power to manipulate and control the truth of what gets out. That's what I always thought about it anyway. Tell me if there are any other interpretations in the replies!
@AlicentviBritannia

Excellent comment! I have only read one comment from a person who analyzed the wishes of the Geass users in the series and it seemed to him that Charles' true wish was not a world free of lies because he lies constantly and, unlike Lelouch, CC and Mao, he never lost control of his Geass, indicating that Charles in no way went against his wish, so it cannot be that he longed for the truth above all things. However, your interpretation fits so well with the narrative that Geass gives you a twisted version of what you really want and also destroys people's will. That's why it's an "evil" power. I wonder what Rolo's wish is and how he relates to his Geass (I don't think we get enough information in the series to determine why Bismarck and Marianne have the Geass they do).
@Megalomaniac_Trans_Lesbian
@Megalomaniac_Trans_Lesbian 9 ай бұрын
I completely agree. It's so cool to see someone else acknowledge that truth is a subjective, and oft fickle thing. Truth varies from one individual to the next, as well as from one culture to the next. And those in power often decide what truth is for a large number of people Analysing truths and lies in a story like Code Geass is an incredible task, especially when you try to look at it from as many different points of view as possible. Sure you've for your main characters Lelouch, Suzaku, and Charles, but the Black Knights' leaders hold / are told different truth from their grunts, or from the UFN leaders, or from the Japanese in Area 11. And these different truths don't always come from the main cast only, they are influenced by a large variety of factors. Just look at the reactions the leaders have when Schneizel reveals Zero's identity to them Nagisa obviously buys into it quickly, since she never trusted Zero very much, but even the two who did place their trust and faith in him, Tohdoh and Ohgi, are convinced very easily since they always suspected part of the truth, even as they publicly supported Zero to calm the grunts. They never completely accepted his apparent truth like Tamaki eventually did And then, well, there's the final arc that brings all these themes to their logical (albeit explosive) conclusion. Gods this show is good

@@AlicentviBritannia Bismarck and Marianne are fair game for theorising, but maybe we're not meant to look too deeply into Rolo's Geass? Since he got it through artificial means, and not even voluntarily, it could be that it has no relation to his wish or personality. It could explain why it never betrayed him even after his personality changed completely, because I genuinely don't believe that having a loving family was ever his wish before Lelouch planted that idea in his mind

I've felt that I've had a good grasp of every other Geass user's power and why, but never really understood Charles's Geass. But this is a great explanation and I'll fully accept it. @@AlicentviBritannia I assumed that Rolo was the result of an experiment on Geass. Didn't V2 say something along those lines? As for Bismark and Marianne, I think we can make some educated guesses. Bismark wanted to be the ultimate warrior and thus gained the power to see perfectly read his enemies moves. Marianne doesn't get enough exploration of her character, but perhaps she wanted to know others?

Every rewatch helps me focus on one specific aspect of this series and I can't stop thinking about friendship right now. Love, in general, between people. It seems both love and hate trascend everything else (hate, specially, as we get close to the end, will become even more important). Even nations and sides on a war are unimportant. Suzaku and Lelouch both love and hate each other, and that's why their story is and will always be tangled, no other way around it. Nina loved Euphy so much that it led to a hate so profound she is willing to literally obliterate everyone else for her revenge. CC was willing to hang onto her miserable inmortal life because she found somebody willing to be with her and, more importantly, make her smile (Lelouch is forced to stay by CC's side due to the contract, but wishing to make her happy is many steps beyond that), and now that she lost her memory and regressed to this destroyed slave girl, we can see her heal slowly thanks to Lelouch's kindness. The things that are coming up with Charles' plan and the world of C... I think that's also a valid interpretation. Charles sees just how much power love and hate have. And he hates it. He hates it because love and hate cause pain, wars, division... so he wants to get rid of love and hate. Lelouch, in his journey, has slowly learned to appreciate the weight of love and hate as a "geass", a curse that can't be escaped. He didn't use his geass to force the UFN into existence because he knew there was something far greater: the world's hate towards Britannia. What will Lelouch and Charles' confrontation lead to, eventually, in regards to their relationship with human love and hate? Specially now that, as they said it, whoever wins their fight will decide the fate of the world.
@AlicentviBritannia
@AlicentviBritannia 9 ай бұрын
The UFN is one of Lelouch's smartest strategies. Technically, it is Lelouch's tool to achieve his goals. On the one hand, the UFN restores the balance of power in the world, thus setting the stage for a confrontation between Britannia and the rest of the world (as the emperor says). By this point in the series, much of the European Union has been conquered by Britannia and the Chinese Federation is recovering from the internal unrest and power restructuring we saw in the last arc, while Britannia remains the oppressive superpower, more powerful. However, the political order of the world changes with the creation of the UFN. Essentially it is a coalition of nations opposed to Britannia that acts as a kind of parliament to resolve conflicts through diplomacy and Britannia is established as a conflict by being the cause of the power imbalance. In a way, the UFN legitimizes Lelouch's goal of defeating Britannia. UFN is very important and will play a key role in the future. On the other hand, the UFN increases the military power of the Black Knights as funding and military units from allied nations will go to them. Hence, the nations that join the UFN are demilitarized. I really like the evolution the Black Knights have had as an organization. They start out as terrorists, become vigilantes, then become a patriotic army and end up being the international forces of peace and order. I'm not a fan of amnesiac CC. Although this gives us a general idea of what she was like before Geass came into her life, it is wasted screen time that could have been used for the development of her narrative arc, instead of fanservice. Yes, I understand that Lelouch shows CC what unconditional love is by treating her with kindness, empathy, and compassion, even after he found out that she used him and hid her association with his enemy from him, but they would have gotten there either way. Without needing her to erase her own memory (I have my theory as to why she did that to herself). The amnesiac CC only contributed two things to the plot: implicitly confirming to us that all she wanted was to have friends and convincing Lelouch to reunite with Suzaku. I'm sure Suzaku allowed Kallen to hit him to punish himself for trying to drug her. Suzaku is the best fighter in the series by far, while Kallen is the best pilot (one of the proofs of this is right here: Lloyd and Cecile reformed the Guren to such a degree that it was impossible to pilot, even for Suzaku, and only Kallen manages to do it, which shows great talent and skill on her part). In this episode we meet the last new characters we had left to see: Bismarck and Luciano. The vampire of Britannia left an impression on me with his particular philosophy and his sadism. He feels powerful by taking away from his opponents what is most precious to them and is justified in martial law. PS: I like that close-up shot of the black king piece bathed in blood. Does it foreshadow or reveal Lelouch's current state?
@王征服
@王征服 9 ай бұрын
While I agree with most of your points, I disagree with your assessment on C.C.'s amnesiac state, as it seems reductive and taken in something of a vacuum. It is not wasted screen time for her 'character arc', it is for Lelouch's. Keep in mind, Lelouch has no one whom he can confide in as Lelouch outside of his capacity as Zero or as the leader of the Black Knights. Shirley, who is dead, cannot fulfill that capacity anymore, and Kallen, whom is currently a POW, was only every oriented to Lelouch insofar as his capacity as Zero. His kindness is doubly meaningful because of how dramatically different she is now; from aloof, haughty, and manipulative witch holding all the cards close to her chest, to effectively a traumatized little girl lost and displaced in time, his ability to quickly adapt is testament of Lelouch's capacity to care, and gives him a chance - through caring for C.C. - to hold onto his humanity, instead of becoming lost in his rage and grief as when he first began his assault on the Geass Order. This softening of Lelouch through unintentionally appealing to his humanity through her innocence is the driving force behind his ultimate decision to meet Suzaku. Had not Lelouch had to care for C.C. in her state, he never would have humored the idea, let alone act on it, and subsequently would not hit nearly as hard for what happens later. Not to mention on a meta level, marketing had established the LelouchxCC ship as all but canon, so this segment was for all the shippers to see Lelouch's husbando side. Fanservice? Sure. But not nearly as purposeless or pointless as some say. Interestingly on Suzaku's attempt to drug Kallen, I've read in fan circles that the scene was written/directed as if it was a SA scene, to further just how far Suzaku has fallen, with evidence placed primarily in the VAs' lines, both in dub and sub.

I would argue that most of the Knights of the Round could pilot the updated Guren, but Lloyd has no pull over them. Suzaku has worked with him so long; he probably believes that he can convince Suzaku to test it. On top of that, he probably sees Suzaku as one of the few who could draw out's its full potential. Even if he could get another pilot, few are as capable as Suzaku. So yeah, there's maybe a dozen or so people that could pilot the Gurren as capably as Kallen. Though Kallen has the most experience with the unit and is the best with it. Similarly, I don't think she could pilot Lancelot as well as Suzaku, but still would be capable of piloting it and doing well.

Hmm, hopefully this doesn't get in the way of your enjoyment, but you misheard or misunderstood a couple things in the previous episode which seems to be throwing your predictions. (1) C.C. explicitly stated that an experienced Geass user gains the ability to steal the powers of Geass givers, which replaces their Geass. Charles having reached this point, he took the powers from V.V. who had broken his promise not to lie. Thus, the emperor likely doesn't have the ability to rewrite memories anymore. (2) C.C. thinks immortality is a curse. She gave the Geass to someone with great ambitions with the hopes he would one day willingly take that immortality from her. With Charles having reached that point, she didn't need Lelouch to do it. (3) Lelouch realized C.C. was about to let Charles kill her out of pity for him, because she didn't want to curse him with immortality. If Charles killed her, Lelouch would not gain her powers and would keep his Geass. (4) When Lelouch told C.C. she shouldn't die sad, and promised to make her happy, she decided not to let Charles kill her. In a sense, she decided her wish to be loved was stronger than her wish to die.
@AlicentviBritannia
@AlicentviBritannia 9 ай бұрын
Some clarifications to your comment. (1) Geass users can receive code, as long as they are willing to receive it (and, of course, have strengthened their Geass to the point that they can take the code from their hirer). As I said in my comment last time, Geass and Codes are tied to the will of individuals. So Charles didn't steal his Geass from VV. He surely tricked him into giving it to him. Furthermore, it is certain that Charles no longer has his Geass. He himself said in the last episode that he lost one power (Geass) to gain another (Code). (3) I don't think CC let Charles kill her out of pity, but rather so that he would leave Lelouch alone and, at the same time, so that she would get her death wish because she believed that was what she wanted. It doesn't matter if Charles "killed" her or not. If Lelouch didn't agree to take the code, he couldn't get it and CC wasn't going to coerce him like the nun did to her. By the way, Charles was not literally going to kill her, he was going to take her code from her and therefore restore her mortality. CC speaks in metaphorical terms. (4) Technically, her wish to die is an extension of her wish to be loved. She wants to kill herself because she doesn't love herself and she doesn't believe anyone can love her. Well, that is a topic of analysis. Maybe you are already clear about some things that I explain here, but it is important to be careful with the words. Many misinterpretations arise if the explanation is not precise.

tbh its not all that weird they would form a unified military. this union is specifically designed as a counterweight to britannia. and many of its prospect members are currently under britannias occupation. giving up their military to contract a security force sounds nicer on camera than saying “we are creating one huge task force to strike at britannia”. many of the members probably wouldnt be able to field a sizable army with modern equipment anyways. but they can give financial and material support under the guise of supporting a peaceful union. ultimately the black knights as they are now arent as unified as they make it seem. if things go sideways nations like china can easily just recall their troops from the black knights. so while they give up their armies on paper its not like they dont have a fallback.

i wish you guys would focus on listening to the show a bit more instead of constantly making predictions because your predictions tend to be wrong because of stuff said very clearly like 3 minutes before them or the episode just before and you often have to go back because you didn't listen fully to what they said it'll just make the reveals a way less impactful if you dont know whats going on. (no hate though

With 9 episodes of code geass to go we need need need need for you guys to react to the Code Geass: Lelouch of the Re;Surrection (2019) film that was made after these seasons and as a continuation of the story of LELOUCH we need you guys to react to the film like you’ve done for other anime films 🥰🥰🥰🥰
@AlicentviBritannia
@AlicentviBritannia 9 ай бұрын
Fake. Lelouch of the Resurrection is not a continuation of the series, but is the last part of a trilogy of films that set up an alternative universe that is independent of the anime and is not canon. There are many changes to the events, motivations and personalities of the characters. I understand that you like it, but you don't have to spread lies. Kenny and Montana don't need to see it. R2 and, therefore, Lelouch's story concludes in the twenty-fifth episode.

@@AlicentviBritanniayou and I don’t know each other so how dare you in your aggressive manner Accuse me of spreading lies or saying this is something that’s fake it is not did I say that certain things weren’t changed in the film no I stated that this film regardless of how some May view it is in fact apart of the world of GEASS AND LELOUCH Of course they had to change certain things in the film because their would be no other way they could have even made the film but the creators of the anime are the same creators who made the 2019 film that’s why like 90 percent of the original voice cast came back years later to work on this 2019 code geass film So in the future please be more considerate of other people and don’t accuse strangers of lying when that is and was the farthest thing from the truth sugga 🙄🙄 Good day to you

@@AlicentviBritannia Look, I love your essays on each of these episodes, but you have to stop bullying other commenters. Because that's what you're doing, you're bullying them This comment was indeed factually wrong in saying that the movie is a continuation of Lelouch's story, but all you had to say was "it's actually set in an alternate timeline and is therefore not canon", there was absolutely no need for you to say "fake" or "you don't have to spread lies", or that Kenny and Montana don't need to see it. This person shared a recommendation, one that I'm sure these two would enjoy at that, there's absolutely nothing wrong with that. What is wrong is you continuously trying to stop people from enjoying or even acknowledging that movie. Just because you don't care for it doesn't mean you have the right to ruin other people's fun. Much more importantly, just because you know a lot about the show's production, and have watched interviews of the creators, and have read the official guide book, doesn't mean you know the objective true answer to every single question viewers may ask about it What's worse than you bullying commenters for being factually wrong, and what's really preventing me from fully appreciating all the things I learn from reading your essays, is you bullying commenters for having different interpretations from yours. Like how aggressively you mocked someone back on episode 13 for bringing up the interpretation of Lelouch's love interests representing his different faces. I fully agree that this interpretation has a mechload of issues, but it's still a fun way to look at the show for some people. So all you had to do was say "this interpretation has the following issues, here's an alternative that I invite you to consider, even if you end up not agreeing with it", as opposed to what you did say which was "That fan interpretation should die. Because that stupid theory is so wrong in every way. There is a lot you miss." It's good of you to bring up complex and sometimes overlooked theories and ways to interpret events, so that everyone can learn more and have more material to discuss about one of our favourite shows, but shouting at people that this is the only right way to interpret it is messed up and arrogant, which is really ironic considering how heavily the show punishes several characters for their arrogance and hubris For a more personal example, you keep saying across the episodes that Kallen x Lelouch is your favourite ship, and the one that you think would have worked out the best had they had a chance to get together. Well, I think it's great on paper, but I believe it would never work in practice, as neither of them would ever be able to give each other what they need, unlike C.C. x Lelouch which I'm sure would really work out either as a platonic or romantic relationship. And this interpretation of mine comes both from my subjective analysis of these characters, as well as my (and several of my friends and partners throughout my life) personal experiences with trauma, manipulation, relationship incompatibility, domestic abuse, and SA. And because everyone's experiences with all those things are valid no matter what, you have no right to tell me that my opinion on these two ships is wrong, no matter how much you disagree, or how many other people think differently based on their own personal experiences, or even how much the show's creators have backed up your opinions. Word of God loses to Death of the Author after all I'm not saying any of these things from a place of anger or aggressiveness, but a place of concern. For the people you bully, and for yourself. You're not going to convince anyone to join your side with this attitude, you're just going to push them away to such a point that they won't even read your essays anymore, no matter how good and informative they are. And being this arrogant, this intolerant, and dare I say, this narcissistic, will only bring you misfortune in your daily life as well. Believe me on that, I speak from many MANY years of experience getting absolutely fucked by life because I used to be the kind of person who wrote comments like yours. So please, don't disregard all of this because I disagreed with you, or because I publicly called out your toxic behaviour. I'm tired of people who like the same things fighting each other over differences of opinion, even when the thing they like is a story about people moving past such petty conflicts, and I'm especially tired of people who need to make themselves feel superior by bringing other people down and insulting their opinions. I've met too many people like that in the past, and I have personally been this person for too many years, so I really urge you to consider the advice of someone who used to be like you, and who now carries so much shame and guilt for it

Classroom of the Elite is an awful joke of an attempt at a clever plot, and Ayanokouji is one of the worst depictions of a genius character I've ever seen, up there with BBC's Sherlock. If you like it, I won't insult you for your tastes, but don't compare it to Code Geass or Death Note mate XD
