The most inspiring thing about Deku is that he is at his strongest when he is protecting someone, literally but also figuratively. He made Kota believe in heroes again, he rescued Iida and made him believe he could be a hero, and he gave Eri back her hope. He always digs deeper and finds the last ounces of his strength to save and inspire everyone around him.

For me the best part of this episode starts at 21:07. We're used to seeing Deku as the hero, that humble, kind boy with a big heart. But there we see him from the perspective of a villain, and what he sees is a monster. We see in his eyes the hope of winning by leaving, that's wonderful.

Oh yeah. Much as with AFO having nightmares years and years after the fact of All Might still fighting without relenting even after AFO's cheap shot left All Might's guts hanging out, one of the scariest things a villain can face is a hero who doesn't back down.

No matter how many times I rewatch this episode, it never stops giving me chills every single time. The way Deku goes all out against Chisaki (almost giving off villain vibes for a moment), the moment Deku calls Eri's quirk a blessing and she starts crying, and most of all, the moment Eri jumps into Deku's arms and that beautiful soundtrack starts playing - gets me teary eyed every single time, so beautiful. This is honeslty one of my favourite episodes in anime, it's done so well imo.

@ZavhallaTV except that we know from later on in an explanation that Deku was being conscious of how he was using OFA in order to limit the amount of collateral damage he caused while fighting him, so it's reasonable to assume he also made sure to not use enough force to actually kill Overhaul.

I never thought about it until this question about Overhaul but the way he's willing to repay the head of their group by taking him out temporarily perfectly embodies his quirk. It's another play on quirks informing his personality and philosophy and how those things developed. When it comes to Night Eye's quirk, I believe it's more about a person's mindset. During his fight with Chesaki, he gave up as soon as he saw his death coming. He believed so firmly that the future couldn't be changed, so he stopped using his quirk and took the attack. Deku refused to give in, so he was able to change what night eye saw. It's like when you go somewhere assuming something bad will happen. It's your attitude that made the experience bad.
@93083237 ай бұрын
Not really. Izuku+OFA (or possibly only Izuku) simply overrides the concept of destiny in the series. While giving up would surely lead to defeat, it's already set before he even saw it. Otherwise, his quirk would simply be absolutely worthless as it can be overridden so easily, which I don't believe they were doing here.

@chronosclaimsall7 ай бұрын
Doesn't this fight get covered on the news later on? That makes it public knowledge so people wouldn't really need to wonder about the earthquake and stuff in the area, they'd just attribute it to the heroes putting in work. And heroes doing their thing is normal, so they'd have no real reason to talk more about this case over any other. As an example, I'm pretty sure Mt Lady produces the same kinds of earthquakes whenever she moves/runs during a fight too. Also (and correct me if I'm wrong) I thought they had evacuated the community around the Shie Hassaikai's base in preparation for the raid, so there wasn't really anyone around to see Deku do his thing except for the other people involved in the operation. And they obviously aren't gonna tell anyone. Plus (minor unimportant spoiler) they say next episode that Deku made sure to throw Chisaki back down to the ground within the community, so him landing on the ground looking all beaten up wouldn't have been seen by anyone else either.

It’s the episode that broke the internet. We’ve made it. There was a point where I really didn’t know how to deep dive this episode because EVERYONE loves deep diving for this one. It’s so much fun to watch and so satisfying for every moment that’s on screen. And I challenge and raise myself here. I think this is a worthy 2 parter splitting the fighting and the character writing again. I’ll do the story 1st. We finally get to catch up with Ryukyu, Uraraka, Tsu, and Nejire. Ryukyu more or less one shot the biggest Yakuza member. Both Ryukyu and this guy are literally the size of buildings. Uraraka is rendered completely immobile, but the moment she here’s Deku needs help, she gets right back up and they do a 4 person team combo move. (And as I’m sure you can imagine, yes there’s MORE crazy gravity stuff at work. But I’ll leave that alone) I’ll just say in a few short minutes they are HEAVILY sapped of their energy and are forcing themselves under bare bones energy. And they just waltzed RIGHT into the final battle…after being guided by Toga using the blood she got from him when she assaulted him as Camie. Toga only had a drop of blood so she could only get a few sentences out as Deku before being forced back into hiding. But now we got Toga, Twice, and a copy of Compress all but unattended waiting to try and swoop in and kidnap Eri for their own ends. And while she would, and I’m not kidding, likely be SAFER with the league than Overhaul, it’s obviously nothing we want them to play around with. We got MORE people getting more terror and trauma of Nighteye’s situation and now you got Overhaul just THROWING Eri into the air and trying to get out of dodge with so many heroes around. And Eri despite being next to this absolute FREAK variation of Overhaul finally understands that these people are never going to leave her with ANY kind of hope they can save her and finally takes the chance to go to comfort instead of abject horror that has absolute control of her. Literally using Mirio’s cape as a safety blanket to do so. And we get the quirk reveal. Rewind. One of the most powerful quirks in MHA. Not top 10, not top 5. TIED FOR MOST POWERFUL PERIOD WITH AFO AND OFA THEMSELVES. The potential of this quirk is nothing short of RIDICULOUS. And is SUPREMELY dangerous out of control. A TIME quirk. And ordinarily such a broken effect would be on inorganic material. NOPE. ONLY on the living and even THAT may be too much limitation because she restores Nemoto’s clothes too when she undoes their fusion. This quirk could have DRAGON BALL WISH level potential. And we have ANOTHER new quirk addition in this world called the mutation quirk. It’s not genetic at all, it’s almost a random occurrence. I don’t want to say like a birth defect. I think I just have to say a quirk mutation is akin to genetic mutation. We only really hear about negative ones like Alzheimer’s, Down Syndrome, and some cancers, but there’s also some purely beneficial ones like lactose tolerance and protection from diseases including heart diseases, and apparently trichromatic vision. In this case we have a toddler that can rip you apart on an evolutionary scale. (And I didn’t totally just end up reading about genetic mutations for an HOUR to find a real life application. I would NEVER….on 2nd thought I plead the 5th amendment my lawyer is giving me the evil eye) Anyway let’s just cry to this new “You Say Run” rendition called “Might+U.” This is fully English in both dub AND Japanese sub surprisingly. I remember it throwing me off but loving it. Just a song meant to do EVERYTHING to give the most comfort possible to this little girl who doesn’t know a THING about what that word even means. Getting a hug from the most caring person she has not only ever met but ever WILL meet with Deku being above ANYONE ON THE PLANET in this world. And just Overhaul just desperately trying to kill that comfort to gain control with Deku swearing NOTHING will get this girl out of his safety and RIGHT when he does, there’s just a silent shockwave that blows everything away and now we’re just in the middle of the sky wondering what the flying ___ just happened. Setting aside from Deku’s perspective of his 100% JUST HOW MUCH STRONGER HE IS HERE based on that single jump, but the sheer inevitability of what is happening as Nighteye calls EXACTLY what is happening. Telling them all to brace themselves for the worst outcome to suffer as a hero. They came here to help Deku, and have just provided the means for Overhaul to be his single greatest threat to Deku at this point in his adventure. (Never mind AFO when he was at 5% thankfully that bullet was dodged) They toppled this BUILDING sized Yakuza at his feet and considering what we saw him do with just ONE body, what about a guy 10 times that size and at full quirk charge? (The life-force breather) They are watching a kaiju being made before their eyes and seeing every pessimistic point coming true as they are sapped of their energy. And it’s all Uraraka can do to stand up, shout her defiance…AND BREAKING ANOTHER RULE OF HER QUIRK. But it does convince Nighteye to make one final attempt to see what comes of this foresight. Can the future be changed? How did she lift those rocks that DEFINITELY weren’t in arms reach?! That’s not Overhaul! He was doing his body warping thing and crawled out that way! He wasn’t making spikes or pillars to get out! She’s the only one who could be doing that! That’s surrounding HER! Can she SPREAD?! Is that a thing she can do?! We don’t see her OR Overhaul use these materials so we never get any confirmation here other than it looks AMAZING cinematically. Deku STILL out here being best boy asking every optimistic outcome he can. He gives her a big fat All-Might smile! Is she a healer? And when her quirk starts to hurt him (In a way I can’t even IMAGINE how it feels. The rewind power must be an absolute NIGHTMARE to endure.) he doesn’t waste a SECOND hugging her again the MOMENT Kaiju Overhaul appears before him and even ties her to his back the instant he says “hand her over” using Mirio’s cape. Not leaving her without an OUNCE of comfort he can give her. (So Mirio in his own way gets to take part in the comfort and protection) Calls her quirk a blessing instead of a curse, and asks her for her power instead of ripping her up. She’s shocked into silence hearing him say this in the face of this abomination. And then the MOMENT he powers up, THROW KIRISHIMA’S BROKEN BONE RECORD OUT THE DOOR. He can’t EXIST in this state without shattering EVERYTHING. And he is practically setting himself on fire in order to help this poor girl. Overhaul says we don’t know her value?! Maybe not creatively yet but MAN is she just EVERYTHING we need here. And RIGHT when you can’t think this absolute freak of nature can’t get ANY more evil…let’s talk about his true plan. Some people are ticked they removed just how much he views quirks as a sickness that needs to be cured from the manga. But this time it’s the SERUM that gives up the ghost. If he truly hates the idea of a quirk and it needs to cured, WHY MAKE THE SERUM. Just like EVERYTHING this freak does it’s for control. For validation. He’s at the point where he’s lying so hard he’s lying to himself. Such is the way of the Machiavellian. The only reason I won’t call him a full blown Narcissist is because of his true care for the boss of the Yakuza no matter how warped it is. He’s tearing apart and KILLING HIS GRANDDAUGHTER REPEATEDLY TO REPAY HIM! His body is the DEFINITION of a contamination to what he touches and he talks about cleanliness. And when Deku just puts his dream about how he wants to help people no MATTER WHAT, he rips apart Chisaki as he asks why doesn’t anyone see the big picture? Because every single point he has made builds up to a hypocritical goal that is him wanting to rule like AFO once did. None of his manipulation and mental warfare builds up to any grand philosophical point. If you break Overhaul down to nothing, you find him to be a hypocrite. Not an insult, WRITTEN as a hypocrite. He’s just a small man that BADLY needs to be taken down. And Deku + Eri combo does it in the perfect way. KILLING OVERHAUL AND REWINDING HIM BACK AS THE FINAL IMPACT HITS. At THAT speed, Deku’s sky exploding punch is a DECAPITATION. And Eri not knowing how to control herself heals him back and that’s why only the mask flies off. But as Overhaul flies out of range, the rest of the energy from the OFA blast catches up and rips him face up. Practically 2 deaths for ONE punch. And when Deku lands, Nighteye sees All-Might’s chosen successor standing over this freak as you think of his UNDYING willpower to break out of this future….and for once his absolute free will robbing quirk has been proven wrong. Filling this man of the most optimism he’s ever had in his life….granted, it probably helps there’s a toddler who controls time on his back that likely helped reset that very timeline. But he finally gets to smile. All-Might is not guaranteed to die. He can be saved.

Okay, a few things I wanna say: 1) I am curious about what would've happened if the League of Villains had gotten ahold of Eri in this fight. I agree that she'd DEFINITELY be safer with them than with Overhaul, and I could see all of them (except maybe Dabi) growing a soft spot for the girl. 2) Forreal, Might+U is BEAUTIFUL. I'm not sure if it's here or in the Heroes Rising movie that it's used better. 🤧 3) I also noticed those rocks floating around Uravity. Something interesting is definitely going on there. 4) I never realized before how much of a hypocrite Overhaul was in making a Quirk-restoring serum. You're completely right. @@HaydrogenBomb 1) the league don’t have any real way to mine her quirk for different results other than a character only seen in the show as a silhouette at this point. Compress can stop her if her quirk is going wild. But her being in the league’s possession is basically an inevitable road to AFO. And that’s an instant game over outcome if he gets rewind. 2) Personally I prefer Might+U in this episode. I find it more powerful with the build up to comfort Eri across the whole arc. I won’t make any comments on the 2nd movie til we get there. We’re getting close though! 3) Uraraka straight up has gravity control. It’s just unfathomable how ridiculous the effects of her quirk are! 4) Overhaul can only be seen with the shred of humanity in the form of his undying care for the Yakuza leader. Yes in all the wrong ways, but it’s there nonetheless. It’s enough to show his humanity in comparison to AFO who literally THRIVES on being inhuman. You want COMPLETELY pure evil, you have AFO.

That's our first glimpse of what Deku with NO limits on his power can do. But here's the crazy thing. That's NOT Deku at maximum power. It's him using 100%, but that's just the energy he can pull, he's not at peak. Because this Deku is NOT experienced with handling 100%, he's having to adapt to how powerful he is on the fly. Normally if he uses that much power his limbs are destroyed, so this is the first time he's been able to go all out with no drawbacks. So when Deku gets to that level on his OWN, he'll be even BETTER than what we just saw. Experience is very important to powers like this. Also look at how smart Deku is, the FIRST thing he did against Overhaul when he got 100%, was knock him into the sky, way up there. This immediately limits his Quirk immensely, as he needs material he can break down and control.

This also fits whit the themes the show has of not a single individual being able to uphold the peace, hapynes and well being of everyone but it instead having to be a combine efort from everyone to do so.

yeah if you think of the future as a 'wall' just one person hitting it won't do much ,but if multiple people strike it multiple times it will start to cave in resulting it the 'shape' of the future changing

I always thought Nighteye's quirk worked differently then how it seems to, seeing as he has to look into a person's eye and see the future I always thought it wasn't necessarily THE future he was seeing, but his mind kind of scanning the other person's mind and coming up with the best possible outcome of what that person would do which is more accurate in the present, but looking further down the line it gets a little hazy most likely because too many variables that can't be calculated except for certain things that might happen if things keep going as they are. Personally I thought the reason he believed Deku would die is because the future he saw was based on what he got from Chisaki, that he chases Deku and Eri up to the surface and kills Deku and takes back Eri, I know people say that it was Eri's quirk and other factors that changed the future, but I think it's because Chisaki in his mind fully believed he could get Eri back just like he's done before and as far as we know Nighteye didn't see 100% Deku because again Chisaki had never told Eri anything about her quirk let alone how to use it so her using it to help Deku was most likely never a thought in his mind, I think had Nighteye seen the future by using his quirk on Deku he would of seen what we saw in this episode.

@@k9commander at least let them self chose. I mean in no way it’s Eris fault that her dad died. She was given a tool that can help people used right, but out of control it can easily kill people. So use her as an example, let her have a choice to live like a normal girl. It’s good Eraser is there for her until she can control it. But there’s so many not as “lucky” as her (she had a tough time so it’s maybe not right to say lucky but you know what I mean). Yeah….I knew I would have to divide the actual fight analyzing and the story analyzing here. It HAS to happen for the really big episodes. So let’s start with the Ryukyu agency vs the life-force breather. Ok I’ve been watching this for years thinking Ryukyu did pretty much all the work against this guy but NOPE. I gotta bring up the fight against the 2 titans in Red Riot’s debut of Unbreakable episode, because that gives you a PRETTY good idea how ridiculously overpowered this guy is. Ryukyu when she yelled for Nejire, Nejire said yeah I’m going to full charge. She considered this guy more immediately dangerous than the 2 titans throwing skyscrapers and causing earthquakes, and only needed an output of 30 to flatten them. So she decided this guy needed a full 100, and got 4 full blasts in! And he just shook off 3 of them like they didn’t even happen! (Nejire hasn’t even been sapped of energy like the others) Not to mention the ground shook from a NOTICEABLE distance when she screamed back off at him! The 4th one needed a triple assist! I don’t know WHAT that guys muscles are made out of when he’s fully charged with life force but apparently he can take hits that could wipe out a city block. It’s all Ryukyu can do to keep the big guy in place! And if you break down the damage of these hits and what’s impacting him…you can kinda see where I’m going with this. The only thing that could so universally immobilize such a giant that shakes off huge ground shaking blasts and a DRAGON tackling him without a scuff, yeah I think the one who created this crater for it to be as enormous as it is, can only be Uraraka increasing gravity again. Nejire was a shove, Tsu was the aim, Ryukyu insures he took the brunt of impact, but intensifying gravity would FLATTEN him through these layers. This is essentially her meteor shower on Bakugo but just WAY more pressure. (It’s a testament for how strong Uraraka is) Now that Deku is moving Mach 1.2 for his 20% movement everything just rises up to the obscene. I’m spotting a lot of sonic booms as he jumps around and even though his kicks are in a certain direction, they explode OUT from where he impacts where the energy releases. (And just keep in mind the energy just gets absorbed right back into stockpile even WITH Eri there.) The shockwaves of his air currents which haven’t been seen since his slipshod control egg in the microwave punches he used on Todoroki and All-Might. There’s a LOT more happening now. On Deku’s 1st 100% kick into the atmosphere, we can get a PRETTY solid idea how far we’ve come from his early 100% days. This 1st jump if you want a good scale on his improvement you look at when he destroyed the zero pointer robot. Deku is just OBSCENELY further in the air. And that thing was like 20 stories tall! (Its hand was resting on an 8 story building minimum to put it in perspective of the 0-pointer) It DOES have a lot in common with All-Might’s shockwaves with how it blows anyone nearby away. But there’s a few key differences. Overhaul WAS able to immediately understand where Deku went flying and he’s around Shigaraki levels in his base form. Shigaraki couldn’t so much as COMPREHEND All-Might was moving. All-Might had a literal FORCE FIELD of energy just by FLEXING and you couldn’t even be within CITY BLOCKS of distance without getting blown away. If you applied that to how far apart Deku was from Overhaul when he 1st VANISHED, Overhaul would’ve made a very cartoony crater in the ceiling like a looney toons character with the distance All-Might blew away the kids, Shigaraki, and Kurogiri in season 1. Instead he faceplants and gets right back up to mess with his giant to follow him. The other difference is weather changing. All-Might from the GROUND can cause such a magnitude of a tornado that it creates a vacuum in the sky that drags clouds in all directions over to create a full rainy day when it was practically clear sky up til then. Deku in the AIR can’t even visibly move clouds even when he’s at their height, he should be fighting IN THEM. All-Might still has Deku COMPLETELY outclassed. It’s subtle but the differences ARE there and quite large. Uraraka can SPREAD. Those rocks she’s lifting are nowhere near her arm’s reach but can’t possibly be Overhaul who doesn’t use any materials from his base for his opening attacks as a kaiju. And from Nighteye and Ryukyu’s perspective no rubble is rising so only Uraraka could be doing that. Shame we don’t know what her plan was while she tried to confront Overhaul HERSELF, but she ultimately decided to settle and just…correct her course mid zero gravity jump again getting Nighteye to the surface for his test to see if the future would change. (So it’s either her making a gravitational pull somewhere or she’s moving gravity’s natural direction again) Kaiju Overhaul has come out now knowing he needs everything he can to go against such a mobile target. And since the lifeforce breathing quirk just essentially got a full charge, he has granted himself the ability to crush buildings, effects more area immediately when destroying or creating, and has also maintained his own smaller stature within the kaiju so Deku will be less likely to go for him, and he can still rebuild himself however he wants wherever at this point. Infinite 100% Deku has arrived on the table. And I’ll use Roy Mustang quotes to describe Deku’s experience at the moment. “Tell me what it’s like to have the fluid in your eyes boil. I imagine it might sting a little!” “It’s surprising how the tongue can be rendered to a bubbling grease. It’s amazing how well it burns.” “Show yourself or I’ll ignite your bone marrow!” “When I’m in charge all women staff will have to wear miniskirts!” Hmmm. Maybe that last one isn’t that applicable though. Deku TRIGGERING this INSTANTANEOUSLY threw Kirishima’s broken bone record out the window. FULL COWLING on a level he CAN’T sustain?! His body explodes every swing! But here?! It’s just EXISTING at this level. We’ve seen what happens when he unleashes giant smashes for 100%, his skin fries clean off and destroys his bones! Theres not a single moment in this fight that isn’t happening to EVERY part of his body. He might not have felt pain when he did his 1st kick. But he is MAINTAINING that through all this. He’s feeling ALL of the pain. But in this circumstance, him doing this is basically saying “Stay back, or I’ll give you everything you’ve given her.” or “You deserve this” Deku has a few key pieces that give him an advantage on Overhaul. I said there’s a difference between reaction speed and true speed. Rappa is FASTER than Deku in this fight. (His shoulders rotate at Mach 10ish compared to Deku’s Mach 6.) But Deku has TRUE speed. He can just EXIST elsewhere by traveling that fast. Rappa can ONLY move his shoulders that fast and the rest of his body give away where he will most likely attack from at what angle and there’s only so many places Rappa can aim for and all Overhaul needs is his hand in the way. THAT is why he wins against Rappa. Deku EXPLODES ENERGY EVERY TIME HE MOVES. It might be Mach 6, but it FILLS the area when he lets loose and if you remember his fights from season 2, it blasts for about 20 seconds nonstop! It’s not just air, it’s practically an energy blast! It’s not a tangible thing for Overhaul to touch and use, and it’s clearly blowing Overhaul off whatever stable ground he’s got near him. And…destroying whatever stable body he THINKS he has. This whole fight is a game of timing and it’s really interesting. Overhaul can’t just disassemble Deku and be done with him. He has to disassemble Eri too because she can just bring him RIGHT back. And as we’ve seen, Deku couldn’t approach whenever he wanted once they were in the sky. Deku is continuously trying to prove that making sure Overhaul lives does NOT mean Overhaul has to keep every part of his body intact. But everytime he gets close Overhaul also gets reset. He had to aim for when he was healing or try to keep Overhaul healing himself to prevent him from using his hands. The gigantic punch shockwaves that blow away chunks of Overhaul’s body is right back on him as he gets close for his sky exploding punch…which by the way, that’s a DECAPITATION at that speed and he got reset afterward. (The flying off mask likely contained his head originally) I’m going to say Deku used hysterical strength for the sky-exploder. At this point that’s Mach 7.5. The giant rip on his face is likely the energy that was still flying out AFTER Deku got past him. NEITHER can finish the job so both Overhaul AND Deku are likely reaching past ANYTHING they can survive SEVERAL times over. I am questioning how ok ERI is after all this because she was right in the middle of ALL that. I don’t know how safe a Mach 6 piggyback ride would be for a 6 year old. Aw that’s cute. Instead of birthday candles it’s AN EXTRA MACH FOR EVERY YEAR. And there were points Deku let her GO so apparently Mirio has a REALLY strong cape. Her eardrums had to have popped a good number of times. But I’ll note how unsafe Overhaul makes her feel to be holding onto Deku that tightly when I’m pretty sure his back is popping. And Deku was even spinning out once or twice as he was learning how to fly. I’m going to take a guess and say Eri felt like how I do on a roller coaster. But one last contributing point for Eri. I just refuse to say the single OTHER time quirk doesn’t play a role in breaking the Foresight prediction. There’s OTHER factors yes. But Rewind has to be a factor. Ok. I THINK that covers everything there is to cover on the fights. XD I think this episode earned its keep to be analyzed on this level.

He then finds out that Chisaki, the person he took in as a kid, was experimenting on the poor girl, his granddaughter. He immediately told him to stop only to then be put into a coma. Like he cared about Eri in his own way and he wanted someone he trusted to help her with her quirk only for everything to go awful and for him to accidentally send his granddaughter to a horrible fate for quite awhile until she was saved. I dont get how that's lógical, Eri doesn't rewind time in general, she rewinds people and things, the himgd around what she rewind keep going foward, its most likely Deku's and everyone's wills that let him change what Nighhteye saw, since there's no way he could've gotten that context

@@arielmartinez94 I know, but usually people hear the word ‘Rewind’ and associate her power with time. I worded my initial comment badly. Edit: I'll post the same comment (except this line) on EP14 as well, since it is VERY important, yet made VERY unclear. One thing I gotta mention, that is incredibly important to this sequence. Eri can ONLY "rewind" genetics. Many people in the community state, as if its a fact, that Eri can rewind time, and thuse the "change in the futue" is her doing. This is (at the very least as of this episode) NOT the case. For ALL we know, her Quirk is "nothing" but the re-calculating and applying of past genetic data. Her quirk allows her to know every step of genetic evolution that happened before, and place a person somewhere along that route. Except the arbitrary "name" of this quirtk, NOTHING actually suggetsts that she rewinds time itself. It's at best a red herring at this point. Edit: Just think about the fact that she can ONLY "rewind"" genetic data. Non-genetic objects such as stone for example, can't be rewound by her.
