One thing about Stan is that while he can be selfish, greedy, and is just... eccentric, he does genuinely care for Mabel and Dipper. He's cared from the start, but here he puts his life on the line to fix his mistake and make Mabel happy, which is so different from the Stan we know.
@DanGamingFan240610 ай бұрын
Fun Fact: Initially in the writers' room, it was planned in storyboarding that Stan would intentionally sacrifice Waddles as bait to the pterodactyl. I think Alex and team made the right choice to change that, as it does make Stan pretty unsympathetic (this was their specific reason for redoing the script)
@masido44310 ай бұрын
Considering the general audience and just how adorable they made Waddles, it would be insanely hard to sell Stan as a sympathetic character afterwards.
@MattTOB6188 ай бұрын
Reminds me of how Toy Story was rewritten to make Woody less of an actual antagonist and moreso a jerk with sympathetic reasoning that takes it too far.
@Chaizin10 ай бұрын
Fun Fact: The pterodactyl was animated by a famous animator named James Baxtor. He's well known for being able to basically animate anything from any angle. He's most known for working on films like Roger Rabbit, The Little Mermaid, and if you ever watched Adventure Time, he animated the horse on the beachball named after him.

Fun fact about this episode! The _Gravity Falls Complete Series_ box set includes audio commentary from Alex Hirsch and many of the writers and voice actors for each episode. Most give great looks into the creative process and mindset for each one, but a few actually provide some interesting character backstories. "Land Before Swine" has probably the best one that even set up some interesting shared-universe fan theories. Here's how it goes. During the episode's commentary Alex Hirsch assumes his Grunkle Stan character at one point, complete with mannerisms and raspy voice. Stan then reveals that he was actually married once from a Vegas situation that lasted less than a day. It began when he reached for the same slot machine handle as another woman and Stan experienced love at first sight. He was so stricken that he couldn't tell he was being conned. She used the marriage to get close to him, stole all his winnings and his car, and led the cops on a chase for miles outside of Vegas. She ended up ducking out of his car into a canyon, never to be seen again. The really interesting part, though, is the physical description Stan gives of this female con artist. She had pale bingo-hall skin, a "weirdly sharp tooth," hair like an airline stewardess, and a shirt with neon pink letters that spelled out "over 30 & very flirty." And the fake name she used during this entire scheme? Marilyn Rosenstein. This alias combined with Stan's account is almost exactly the same as _The Owl House's_ Eda Clawthorne during her treasure hunting trips to the human realm. In essence, Stan found true love with the Boiling Isles' most wanted criminal and had his heart broken by her schemes. It may just be a shout-out and nothing more, but the specific details and shared creative teams among both shows have provided more than enough fuel for fans to come up with their own plausible shared universes. And that's not even factoring in _Amphibia_ and the metric ton of material that takes those fan theories to new levels.
@timrosswood425910 ай бұрын
Did that commentary come out before Owl house or after?
@alexschott209210 ай бұрын
@@timrosswood4259The Shout Factory series box set that came out in 2018, about a year before _The Owl House_ premiered. Given all the time and collaboration Dana had with Alex on that series before it aired it could have been in the works long before the commentary was even considered. Then again, there were also several hints of _The Owl House_ in the "Lost Legends" comic released in the same year. Things like a wanted poster for Eda, Owlbert in staff form, even an entry in the journal on the Boiling Isles.

14:00 Trivia time: The whole "a dinosaur can't see you if you don't move" actually originated with the original Jurassic Park movie - it was in the original book BUT in the book it was explained it was a genetic defect that originated from all the genetic splicing the scientists did to recreate the dinosaurs. The books and movies both explain that while the Jurassic Park scientists were able to recover dinosaur DNA, but it was broken and full of holes and so DNA from other animals was spliced in to fill the holes. The movie just introduces the idea that the T. rex couldn't see them if they don't move but cuts out the genetic splicing defect explanation and just has the dinosaur expert "know" it.
@leahkent391510 ай бұрын
Fun fact. According to the journal one small Dino did get out and follow the group home. Stan tried to keep it as an attraction, but then it started stealing money from tourists (which Stan was fine with) and refusing to hand its stealing over to Stan (which he was not fine with), so he took it to Farmer Sprouts farm, which is already full of mutant creatures, since its near a waste factory.

@@narindercatt2230 it’s good, but I don’t think the first season aged too well in the humor department, for the most part. This seems like a nitpick, but for such a comedically-driven show, this heavily brings it down, especially when there’s yet not a lot of continuity at this point. This episode really is where things start picking up, at least in terms of scale (both literally and metaphorically), counter-acting the humor (which does admittedly get mostly good in Season 2).

Important geology fact: cold-water geysers exist and are powered by CO2... which is why Soos thumping the side of the geyser made it explode. How that much CO2 was coming out of the water but no-one was suffocating is where the resuspension of disbelief occurs.

Now that I think of it, Dipper was already making photos. So he should've already developed the film. First, you develop a film, then you project the needed frame, with light, on photo paper, then you develop the paper to get the picture. So the film should've survived.

14:02 (I'm not the best at explaining stuff and get off topic) Jurassic park was technically right with the not moving thing because they used frog DNA. And frog vision is based on movement and that is why they get away with it in the movie. I also like to point out at the beginning of the movie that Alan does explain that dino's are closer to birds than reptiles but a lot of people tend to overlook that and rag on the frog DNA thing about inaccuracy and stuff...... +---{sword>
