This is one reason I don't really think the series has filler. Even in this episode, we get Cornelia infiltrating the Geass order and Jerimiah cancelling both of Shirley's Geass effects. In many ways, this is the beginning of the end.

3 points of relevance doesn't make something not filler. Filler is literally just filling time to meet commitments. It doesn't automatically mean unimportant or non-canon
@EricSmith-kh3ho11 ай бұрын
I personally don't see this as filler. Lelouch has many sides to him, but broadly speaking it is three: his school self (very friendly and quiet genius), Zero (flamboyant genius and tactian) and his real self (something in the middle). He exaggerates his personality for 1 and 2. This episode is all about showing how his school life is and that personality 1

I hope you enjoyed this episode. It's the last school episode as Ashford Academy fulfilled all its narrative functions. Ashford Academy was the happy place for Lelouch, Suzaku, Kallen, and even Rolo. A safe space that allowed our characters to act according to their age and reminded us viewers that they were teenagers trapped in a war that forced them to behave like adults. It was also a neutral territory where Britannians and Japanese could forget about politics and live together in harmony. You have several examples: the integration of Suzaku, the festival that Ohgi and Villeta were able to join quietly, and the friendship of Kallen and Suzaku, even though they knew who they were. This warm, joyful atmosphere was created by the Student Council. Up to this point, the series took care of showing us why and how important Ashford Academy was to Lelouch by sharing with us several moments with his friends at school. And this is because one of the purposes of Ashford Academy is to humanize Lelouch in every way. Ashford Academy often does this by putting him in mundane settings where we can see other facets of his character. Lelouch's intelligence, efficiency, and skill in several areas puts him above the average man, but here he acts clumsy and shy around Shirley. The situation reaches its comedy peak when in the sneak peek Lelouch says that he already knows how to solve all the political and military problems and his only concern is that he doesn't know what to do on a date. Sadly, Lelouch's happy times and jovial phase come to an end with Milly's graduation, as it marks once and for all the disintegration of the Student Council. From the beginning of R2 this was happening since Nunnally, Kallen, Nina and Suzaku separated from the group for different reasons; but Milly's departure is final since she is the leader of the group and mainly she was the one who brought the chaos and joy. Now that Milly has gone Ashford Academy, it means that dark times will come, because another of the school's purposes was to relieve the tensions, dramas and emotions of the main plot. Milly has a small narrative arc. She comes from a noble family that lost their status once Lelouch's mother was murdered as they were one of her biggest supporters. As a result, the family was forcing Milly to marry a nobleman to regain their power and glory. Of course, she didn't want to do it and sabotaged all of her dates, however, she never made an effort to change her situation until Nina called her hypocritical and frivolous. Ironically, it is thanks to Nina that Milly reflects on what she wants for herself and decides to be true to herself and her desires, as Milly transformed Nina's insult into constructive criticism and in the end found herself and a happy life. By the way, the Cupid event was not to pair up Lelouch and Shirley. Rather, it was Milly's last chance to get Lelouch as her boyfriend, and Sayoko hints as much when she discreetly whispers in her ear. Although Lelouch has two love interests (Kallen and Shirley), three girls have crushes on him: the two mentioned and Milly (which is the reason Milly liked to tease Lelouch). If anything, Milly's achievement lies in the fact that she wants Lelouch to be happy, even if he's not with her.
@welshbandit720811 ай бұрын
Idk if Milly necessarily fancies Lelouch, but she certainly enjoyed teasing him. Really, almost anybody on the student council was fair game(I had never noticed that picture of Prez straight up groping Shirley). While I like Prez, I never paid her that much mind, and I think I'll pay closer attention whenever if ever I have my next rewatch. 🤔
@hakuakuma142611 ай бұрын
She does like him. If you haven't found it, listen to the translated audio drama. There is one that establishes her feelings. Also pay attention to everything she says to Shirley, she's often projecting her true feelings. She pushes Shirley towards Lelouch because she knows she has to marry to restore her families name. Last fun fact, if Lelouch's mother wasn't killed, he and Milly would have been put together in a political marriage to bring the Ashfords into royalty, as repayment for sponsoring Marianne's ascent to knighthood. And to get a contact to start mass-producing the Ganymede, that nightmare they use at school functions.

Bismarck is the name of the german chanceller that was arguably responsible for the first germany unification in 1871, that created the german reich from prussia and other germans states (minus austria). Conversely, it is the name of one of the most notorious war ships of the kriegsmarine with some U-boots and the graff spee. It was named after the same guy. If you are into games, he is also one of the german rulers in civilization games. Honestly those are where I feel most probably you could know "Bismarck" from.

I love the start of this episode. Is a bit a unshown callback to when CC started to sleep in Lelouch room. Sayako starts finding womans clothing in his room and starts to, falsely, assume he is a womanizer. And here she stakes that false assumption to the extreme. "Ah yes. Master Lelouch casually bang girls. Lets set him up with 118 dates in one day. That's normal for him, right?"

Fun fact: Shiawase Neiro (in English, A Happy Timbre) is the name of the first ending of Code Geass R2 performed by the band Orange Range. It was written especially for Code Geass (as was the first R2 opening performed by the same band), so the lyrics were designed with Lelouch's character and his journey in mind. Up to this point I haven't told you anything new, but how would you react if I told you that the creators said that one of the illustrations that appears was replaced by another to avoid a spoiler? Instead of the illustration of Anya and Gino, there should have been the illustration of Shirley that was moved to the second ending (if you remember how Shirley appears there, you already know what the spoiler was). Interestingly, at that moment the lyrics of the song say "Thank you, from the bottom of my heart, next time it will be my turn to bring you happiness", which relates to what Lelouch says about Shirley in episode 14 of the first season: "Then I realized how much she meant to me… How her smile saved me. And how I'll never be able to argue or laugh with her like that again" (that is, he wants to give Shirley back her happiness/her smile). This has given rise to theorizing that the lyrics of the song are reflections/wishes of Lelouch about the people with whom he has interacted. I invite you to watch this beautiful subtitled ending, it's fun to analyze.

In the first season, he and Code R were researching C.C., geass, the thought elevators and what not, but he worked under Clovis and was kind of outside of the loop. Now that he’s working with V.V. And reporting to the emperor he’s become more aware of what it’s all for and doesn’t approve.

You are mistaken. Sure, what is considered acceptable or indecent depends on your culture, and what's considered acceptable to show in the media as well. But it's not just eroticism itself that offends Western audiences in anime, it's the gratuitousness of it in an otherwise nonsexual setting. It breaks immersion, feels like a cheap production trick meant to titillate the viewers instead of telling a story. It dehumanizes the characters. I love erotica, but I still roll my eyes and groan at the stupid stuff they pull in Code Geass at times. Though honestly, the scene in this episode was not that big a deal to me, probably because it's a joke involving background characters in an already silly episode. I find it much more jarring when they show a low angle shot of Kallen in her knightmare frame for no reason.
