"i order you not to die" no matter how many times i hear this line, it always breaks my heart, the desperation in his voice, not knowing what else to do, trying, hoping that anything would save Shirley, and just how earlier he was begging not to loose her or anyone else ever again.

@@archivesoffantasy5560 Well, her Geass commands had been negated, so his Geass may have been effective on her again. Which is probably why we saw the red rings around her eyes. Though he didn't know that. I'd say Lelouch was simply desperate to save her. And it didn't work because it's not a God. Just like the Death Note can't magically teleport someone to the Moon to die, Geass can't make someone have knowledge they don't have or perform actions that are impossible, such as stop bleeding out and dying.

This is sort of a spoiler towards the end I guess, but I've always thought Lelouch pretends to be a controlling egothistical megalomaniacal bastard for his purposes but he is actually very kind and he really does want to build a better world. Same. It also annoys me when people say Lelouch is a psychopath that feels no remorse, when in reality there's been plenty of times where something he's done messes with him heavily (Shirley's dad, Euphemia). Lelouch pretends to be cold and unfeeling and clings to the masks he puts on himself because otherwise he falls apart the more he dirties his hands with blood

The only things Light and Leluche have in common is they both have special powers (Light Death Note, Leluche Geass) and both are young men. Really they are very different. Leluche has very real emotions and is affected by them. He cares for and loves others. Light loved himself. And only himself. He is a psychopath. Pure psychopath. To the letter.

13:35 I think you missed what Shirley was saying here. It was basically "You say you CAN'T forgive him, but really you just don't want to. But I forgave him, and I'm better off for it, so I think you should forgive him, too." Forgiveness is a powerful thing, and it really has no downsides. Refusing to forgive is like drinking poison, and expecting the other guy to die. When you refuse to forgive, you aren't hurting the other person (at least, not as much as you think), you're hurting yourself. Learning to forgive, and allowing yourself to forgive can be incredibly difficult things, but they're good things. If forgiving would violate some standard, then that standard is only hurting you, and deserves to be violated. People refuse to forgive by allowing their hatred, anger, and resentment to consume them, and we're all worse off when we allow those things to take root in our hearts.

@mahamoon1917
@mahamoon1917 10 ай бұрын
I completely agree with you and it terms of boundaries we should know there are two types of forgiveness, there’s one when you forgive the other person but you don’t necessarily let them back in your life because they don’t simply deserve it, they’re not sorry for what they’ve done and they might continue to hurt you if they still have access to you, this is the time when you should have enough self respect and set boundaries for yourself and decide to cut them out of your life but you can choose to forgive them from a far. In this case Forgiveness is not for them, it’s for you so you wouldn’t hold grudges and resentment and walk on the path of healing and alignment. And then there’s another type of forgiveness when you forgive and also choose to keep that person in your life and this should be only reserved for people who deserve and actually earn your forgiveness, the ones who truly love you and are absolutely sorry for what they’ve done, these are the one who would absolutely do anything to make up to you and try their hardest not to make the same mistake again, in this case you can’t help but to accept them with open arms and choose to keep loving them as well. All types of forgiveness are beautiful in any shape and form and practicing the art of forgiveness would bring peace and light to our lives.
@mattgarrett2583
@mattgarrett2583 10 ай бұрын
I'm on the other spectrum. There are some things in life that are unforgivable and should never be forgiven. Yes, forgiveness clears your heart, but it also validates the person that did the unforgivable. Forgive when you can, move on and heal.. but there are some hatreds and anger and resentment that are deserved and will be healed when the person dies. I know this first hand, and I only forgave when they died. I moved on, which is good. but while alive, there was no way to forgive. People say forgive and forget, you will NEVER forget some things. And some things should never, ever be forgotten.

Ladies and gentlemen, we are at the beginning of the end of Code Geass. I can't help but feel really bad for Shirley, Rolo and Lelouch every time I revisit Shirley's death since I love these characters and it hurts me to see how they hurt each other, but I can't protest because they made their own decisions and are suffering the consequences. I especially feel enormous compassion for Lelouch since he is the real culprit behind Shirley's death. Shirley's story arc is basically the antithesis of Nina's arc. Both start from the same point: Zero took away someone they loved and they were willing to kill Zero, but Shirley gives up her revenge when she discovers the identity of her father's murderer because she is incapable of hurting someone she loves (in fact, she intended to hear Lelouch's side of things before making judgments). In this way her love ends up prevailing over her resentment and Shirley is able to find the strength to forgive Lelouch for his crime. That's what her arc is about: forgiveness. My favorite quote from Shirley sums it up perfectly: "Nothing is unforgivable. So if you cannot forgive him, it means you don't want to" (which is why it's appropriate that Shirley says it to Suzaku, since they are both in a similar situation.) I think that forgiving Lelouch for killing her father is the greatest sign of love on Shirley's part, although we have other signs. She was the only one within the Student Council who differentiated Sayoko disguised from the real Lelouch (because she was surprised that he was too kind), which proves that Shirley really knew Lelouch and this is confirmed in this same episode: without knowing everything qhat has happened to this point, Shirley immediately understood the loneliness that Lelouch is going through ("The power of the king will isolate you," CC told Lelouch) and that he is trapped in a world full of lies (his own name, his crusade, the people around him, the words he says and many things in Lelouch's life are lies...). Even if Rolo hadn't killed her at that moment, Shirley wouldn't have survived following Lelouch on the bloody path she chose (she was a delicate flower in a highly toxic environment). She had to die and the creators arranged for it to happen here. It is not for less. Her death literally sets the course for the second half of R2, and therefore, it defined the ending. That's how important Shirley's death is.

Now it's no longer a spoiler to say that Shirley was always the Ophelia to Lelouch's Hamlet. Destined to suffer the collateral damage of his single minded battle due to her (misplaced?) love. As you say, no other death could have such an impact on Lelouch and the plot moving forward, save of course for Nunnally. And not just that, but she even managed to plant the seed for the final arc in the same episode where she dies, with her words about forgiveness becoming the most major part of Suzaku and Lelouch's development later on. Though one may hate the writers for killing her, one must admit that they absolutely did her justice

This is it. This is where everything changes, the endgame is here and, more importantly, Lelouch is ready to go for it. I think some of the stuff that happens in the next episodes could've happened earlier, but Lelouch was still clinging to his hope of having a relatively normal life and balancing being Zero with being a student. This is the turning point, this is the point he realizes there is no more time, and there are no more chances. What has to happen now, has to happen now, and the next episodes will also get him into a position where he really doesn't have any other option left.

The original creator (supposedly by rumor) threatened to quit publicly if he didn't get creative control on the last 5 episodes. There were backstory inserts in season 1 explaining everything he revealed, but it was far off mainstream release extended content, so it seemed like it came out of nowhere, but was legitimately shown that everything he said is true...

Some big things happen this episode. Jeremiah switching sides cause he's loyal to someone else. Didn't see that coming before cause he was an enemy. And oh, poor Shirley and Lelouch, too. When she nearly fell at the beginning, he said he didn't want to lose anyone else and was desperate in pulling her back up but Shirley still dies later and he wasn't able to do anything about it. I wonder though if she would have lived if she hadn't mentioned Nunnally? I dunno if this is a spolier? But there are picture dramas for Code Geass and there's one that's set after the last episode and somehow the talk you had after Shirley's death reminded me of the stuff that happened in there. This part is interesting as it plays a major role in why Orange behaved the way he did towards the japanese. Just like with Clovis, Orange hated them because he thought they were responsible for what happened to Lelouch and Nunnally.

This is a late response, but yes, the Geass did send her body functions into overtime, but by doing so it also increased the speed of the blood loss... effectively killing her faster with that order. It's brutal.

New intro is pog, only one that jams close to the same level as the first Cool observation on Suzaku's rank/status being kind of like Geass, which in the early episodes was called the Power of the Kings, akin to the "Word of a King is Law". ANNNNND RIP...

Why did Rolo kill Shirley? It's complicated to answer that. It wasn't to protect Lelouch's identity. We all know it's a lie. It was because Shirley hinted that she could help reunite Lelouch with Nunnally. Rolo doesn't want that to happen. Deep down, he is jealous of Nunnally and what does that imply? A huge personal insecurity. He is aware of Lelouch's strong love for his sister, as he is aware of his status as a false brother. Rolo feels insecure about Lelouch's love for him and believes that the best way to "save their relationship" is to take Lelouch to himself. Hence, Rolo has been somewhat possessive of Lelouch recently, especially in episode 7 when he tried to persuade Lelouch to forget about the rebellion and stay with him leading a normal life. Rolo has an intense fear of being replaced by Nunnally and, by extension, losing Lelouch, who, to Rolo, is the only person who has ever given him love and cared about him. That attitude is totally understandable. Rolo has never had a family beyond Lelouch. No one taught him how to properly manage his insecurities or channel his negative emotions and feelings. All he had was the Order of Geass that taught him how to deal with threats by training him to be a murder weapon, so Rolo treats his problems as threats in one way: by killing. For all this, Rolo killed Shirley. Lelouch was aware of Rolo's past and, therefore, that Rolo was a product of how he had been conditioned his entire life. And yet, Lelouch decided to manipulate him through love to use Rolo and lie to him, promising him a future together. That is, Lelouch prepared all the conditions to trigger a dependent relationship between Rolo and him. Shirley's death was the direct consequence of having lied to, manipulated and used a mentally unstable boy in need of affection. It's a law in Code Geass. Except for CC, all Code Geass characters suffer the consequences of their bad actions. Even if Shirley was the one who paid the high price, Lelouch is resenting his decision since his loved ones are his weakness and Rolo will have to suffer too. Although he tried to protect his happiness, Rolo put a target on his head by killing Shirley. I'm sure Lelouch was torn between consciously hating Rolo for "taking Nunnally's place" and subconsciously loving him for the bonds they developed during this time, but after this, all Lelouch feels for Rolo is pure hatred. There will definitely be an avalanche of fallout from Shirley's death and I'll talk about the first one in the next episode. PD: I just noticed that the thumbnails for the last three episodes, including this one, don't have R2 next to the anime title. Little update: I have to disagree with Kenny when he said that Lelouch had a legitimate reason to kill Rolo by being a replacement for Nunnally. No it's not true. Rolo was following orders on a mission he was given which was to take Nunnally's place to spy on Lelouch. It is only when Lelouch convinces him that their brotherhood is real that Rolo strives to be his little brother. I think that Lelouch only wanted to get even with Rolo because he couldn't do it with the people who had trapped him in a lie and took away his dear sister. Surely he would just abandon him or lock him up. Shirley's death is different because Rolo made the decision to kill her and therefore he took away someone he loved.

There's also a picture theater episode set during the party right after the end of Cupid Day where Rolo's internal monologue says that he's upset Shirley got to date Lelouch after all, and that he'll have to find a way to deal with her eventually. He didn't necessarily mean that he wanted to hurt her there, but it shows that he already felt threatened by her even before she mentioned Nunnally, just as he'd feel threatened by anyone who somehow gets a hold of Lelouch's heart

Forgive others so that God forgives you. Refusing to forgive someone is entirely about pride and ego. We overwhelmingly share a large portion of genomes. To hate others is to hate yourself. We are all fallen to a degree, we all engage in sin; refusing to forgive someone as if we are some moral authority without flaw is ridiculous. Even we violate our own standards, so expecting others to follow them at all times is a fantasy. We need to love everyone, love your neighbor, view them in good faith. There's a soul in all of us. There's good and evil in everyone, yes even the 'worst' or 'best' people in history. We are actually not as great as we think we are. If you truly love someone you will always forgive them. If you love everyone you will forgive everyone, you separate the action from the person. Maybe you are just equating forgiveness with including this person in every facet of your life or saying what they did was fine, or justified or without consequence, and they are not the same thing. I actually think Shirley's point was poignant and often lost in this self-centered world. People give up so easily on each other, your expectations are betrayed and you put even your loved ones [husband, wife, family] into the camp of 'evil' which is just so misguided....Forgiveness is probably one of the larger virtues we can all learn to include in our lives. Love your enemies. Show kindness to them. Those are the people you should be praying and wishing wellness on the most. You'll be shocked how quickly you speak to their soul and how drastically the situation can change when you choose to let go and turn the other cheek rather than hold on to this resentment and hatred and judgment. Let's keep our communities in tact for a change, let's make the sacrifice of abandoning our pride and telling the people around us how much we love them. Let's view each other as good people with good intentions. If we can prescribe evil or good intent onto people, I will always assume people are trying to be good. I will choose to forgive.

The second scene that can bring a tear to my eye. I hate Shirley's death, though I think it is necessary for the story to go forward. And both actors nail the scene. And part of what makes it so tragic is that Shirley was always just a good person. Keep in mind that not only was she the one to first approach Suzaku, the Eleven, after he saved Lelouch, but she was going to approach him at the beginning and only stopped because of Rivalz. But get ready. The rollercoaster is at the crest of the hill and we're in for a ride. A long time ago, I mentioned that I think Lelouch has a few loves that each represent potential paths he could have taken. However, I didn't go into it at the time. This episode is a good time to start. Shirley was one of Lelouch's potential loves. To be with her, he would simply have to turn his back on Lelouch vi Britannia, Zero, and Geass. He would need to truly be Lelouch Lamperouge. To choose to live a normal life, finish his education, get a job, and start a family with her. He could even continue to take care of Nunally, I doubt Shirley would object to that. It would mean he would give up on revenge, justice, freedom, or freeing Japan. I think he could be happy. I know Shirely would do everything in her power to make him happy. The problem is that Lelouch could never choose Shirley. Not because he didn't love her. I think his absolute desperation to save her, even using his Geass to make her live despite it being impossible (something he had to have known from testing it) proves that. Because he could never turn his back on justice and revenge. He could never turn his back on the world. To say nothing of Kallen and C2, whom he would also have to abandon. This is why he always kept her at arm's length. Not just because he killed her father, though he felt guilt over that. But because he didn't want her to get involved in his fight. Unfortunately, she choose to join his battle. The truth is that may be what killed her in the end. Whether it was Rolo or something else, she could not live in that world. Because Lelouch can't have it all. He can't live a normal life and be Zero. Zero does too much. He causes too much pain as well as grants hope. Lelouch has to make a choice. And unfortunately, he lost one the most important people in his life, now.

I think you brushed off the discussion about free will too fast. Is it really free will if it is their job? Is it really free will if they have no option but to obey the emperor's commands or be labeled a terrorist like the japanese resistance? Those questions are at the heart of the Code Geass discussion.

And somehow I only just realised. The way Shirley's story was framed was about deseption, taking a loved one away and yet finding forgiveness. And all the guys are tied into it. Lelouch obviously killed Euphy, taking her from Suzaku. Rolo both took Nunnaly's place and killed Shirley. So yet again the show forces the same moral dillemas on both of it's leads. And it gives some new perspective on THE Rollo/Lelouch scene in the future (not really a spoiler, everyone at this point that some sort of resolution between them is comming).

One of my biggest disappointments in R2 is how Shirley was treated in R2. Shirley never catches a break and I like many fans believe she’ll join the BK and stand right next to Lelouch. However the writers decide to kill her. I understand how Lelouch’s development and how she affects him and this goes to show his innocent school life could never be possible. I understand that, BUT what about Shirley? What does she get out of this? Shirley could’ve become a great lover and tragic character to help Lelouch but instead was killed. I don’t oppose her death, but Shirley dying like this really triggers me since the writers didn’t write Shirley that well. I’m happy in the alternate universe, Shirley at least has a role in the war that makes me happy.

I love my hero academia, Hunter x Hunter, and yu-gi-oh. What should my next English dub anime be? Attack on Titan does not interest me at all as it looks too violent and bloody. I like mostly super hero and fantasy. (Dub only). Should I watch dragon prince, code gease, or what recommendations? I have Netflix, HBO Max, Disney Plus, KZbin Premium, Freevee, Tubi. (I also have Hulu and am thinking of getting Amazon Prime). Thank you for any help you can provide. (I also am not really a fan of old anime that doesn’t look so good, like Naruto, or kiddie stuff like Pikachu)

Fruits Basket, Fire Force and Food Wars these are my 3 favourites that start with F... 2 of them can get a bit too fan servicey but if you're able to overlook that they're beautiful animes. Attack on Titan is great but traumatic😂💔 Dr Stone is my favourite anime and it's wholesome like it genuinely makes me happy, there's also Welcome to Demon School Iruma-kun Idk if some ppl might view it as childish but to me it's not it's also really wholesome❤ Ascendance of a Book Worm is the best isekai that I've watched, Assassination Classroom is nice and wholesome too. Black Clover might look a little oldish but if you can get used to that it's a great anime. If you ever want a long anime One Piece is great and the animation improves with time. Sk8 the Infinity is short and sweet(sports anime) oh and Sword Art Online it touches on a few touchy/triggering subjects but it's great overall in my opinion😂
