The Simplest Way To Optically Center Your Riflescope

Optically centering a riflescope is a process of aligning the reticle back to the point of its factory setting.
There is an inner tube inside the riflescope called the erector tube, which comes from the factory optically centered. The erector tube is held in place by the windage and elevation turrets and the erector spring. When the erector tube is misaligned it is common to experience loss of zero or lack of adjustment but this can be easily resolved by optically recentering the riflescope. An optically centered scope gives you the full range of adjustments available.
There are several reasons why you might want to optically center your riflescope; changing scopes between rifles, after purchasing a used scope, if you're optic isn't holding zero, or if you just want to reset it to factory zero.

Hmmm... if you fully cover the front-lense of the scope: Where does the light come from to see the reticle(s) ?? I have not tried it yet - but i assume if i cover the front with something i will only see black.

This is only meant if the scope has been adjusted 10s of times and you put it on a new rifle with bad rails and it maxes out or if it starts to shift between shots. This should actually be done every time you change the scope to a new rifle so you don’t damage it by overdoing the screwing part. If the scope is zero, and the rifle requires more than a couple of turns to get it straight you go and find better scope holders grips or how they are called instead of adjusting the scope. This is only applicable if you want the scope to perform its best and not lose zero when its set up.

Tried it. Mirror covered scope, darkness descended, couldn't see anything, let alone to adjust it. Scope is SFP, on lowest mag setting. Ooooooooohhhh, illuminated cross hair! Might try that?

In a dark room, the glass from the mirror in front of its reflective surface should allow enough light to enter to see your reticle. Make sure you use a traditional mirror with a glass layer.
