Repair a Bike Inner Tube leak with super glue and paper!

I did this with my tire. But instead of paper, I used a patch from my tire repair kit. I ran out of the tire glue and I didn't want to go out and buy more. And it worked great. Not bad for super glue. Unfortunately, somebody stole my bike from the public parking lot where I locked it a couple of months later.

Beat sauce, mate. Invest in a shock alarm and gps tracker if you can next time. Shock alarms make noise if you don't disengage it (I keep mine inside of my handlebars) and have saved my ass twice. GPS tracker is more for finding your bike with the cops later. They are also dirt cheap (like 10-20 bucks tops) but if you have a 3D printer and some smol tech know how like me, you can make one in like an hour.

That sucks so bad. I had bikes stolen my whole life, so now I don't let them out of my sight - except Costco. My bike is my car, and so I risk it at Costco. So far so good, but scary.

@@TheRadioAteMyTV costco's are one of the safest places to lock a bicycle up at.. and their bike racks are usually pretty close to the entrance and the shopping carts.. so there is lots of traffic around there and employees of costco. could even say hi to the costco cart retrievers to let them know that is your bicycle in case someone else starts messing around with it?

@@manp1039 Yeah, that's all true except one part. At my Costco the cart folk take their breaks by the bike rack and they are very hostile about bikes invading their space. I had to talk to management once because they were threatening me for using the bike rack for a bike. They remain hostile every trip I make.

I tried this and it worked. So far l’ve gone with it 4-5 miles without any problem. Hope it can hold on for a few more days.

Yeah I was right predicting. About two weeks later the tires blew while I was on my way home. So for an emergency this works, but it could also be dangerous if the tire blows in the wrong situation.

Amazing because Super Glue dries hard as a rock and the tube flexes constantly. I thought of trying on an air mattress but with the glue drying hard, not sure if I dare.

Use super glue and add bicarbonate of soda ,you can form/make rock hard pieces that you can sand /drill ,like 3d printing a small gromet or washer, there's a vid on you tube

Yeah I saw it on Nick Mcdonald channel too. Really surprising. If you buy the patches in boxes of a 100 and Elemer's Rubber Cement in the bottle, that's 10 bucks between the two for 100 repairs, so I am not sure which is cheaper or even which lasts longer, but if you can get the same result with paper and rubber cement then WHOA, is there money to be saved. Have you tried rubber cement and paper?

I have glued a valve stem back on. Its alright for a temporary fix. I used gorilla glue for this.

great tip..i am guessing something like this could be done without even removing the wheel from the forks.. just need to pull the bead off one side of tire.. find the hole and patch it then reseat the tire and fill back up with air/ since it cures so quickly?

Don't do this with an old tube that could have possible rubber decay. Trust me I know as I have tried this method, it held air for a few seconds then went BOOM! Scared the bejesus out of me to say the least..

I have a better way 1- Mix the flour with water 2- Remove the needle 3- Place the flour and water mixture in your mouth 4- Drain the mixture into the tube 5- Install the needle and fill the tube with air 6- Rotate tire By this way, you will not have a tire puncture even in the future, Because the mixture is constantly spinning and plugging any hole that gets.

If you are familiar with O ring kits that consist of lengths of rubber you cut to size & then join with superglue - those are used in hydraulic system repairs - then you'll know superglue will stick rubber very well indeed. Getting the surface totally clean before glueing would be the most important factor. You would best use a solvent of some sort. You can also get activator spray that makes the glue set better & faster - it too would be useful.

Did everything as shown in the video, rode daily for almost a full week until it burst again. The solidified paper cracked into peices It was expected but im happy with the results since i tought it wont work at all

my experience with duct tape.. at least the type i have tried.. it get brittle after awhile.. Maybe on the inside of a tire it will last much longer? and won't become brittle? THe aplication i used it was for a duct to a window that gets some sunexposure and gets hot and cold . I have also used gorilla tape on some things.. the loses it adhesion but maybe a bit of crasy glue with duct tape over it will allow the crazy glue to bond to the rubber and cure over time with the tape on top. I used a similar technique to repair a therm-a-rest inflatable sleeping pad.. except in that case i used urethane glue.. which required several hours to cure.. and the the clear tape i used helped to keep the piece covered and together.. then i aplied a second coat and let that cure.. and now my therm-a-rest does not leak anymore.

Paper doesn't stretch, and neither does superglue. The glue cracks, the paper tears, and you're now left with a tyre that you can't use a rubber patch on. Don't do it. Great in practise, and it might get you out of trouble, but you'll now need a new tube.

I hear you. Never a creative thought from those folks. What the guy did here, knowingly or unknowingly, was have the tube inflated to approximate its dimensions inside the tire, then applied the patch. Therefore there was very little stretching or stress involved after the repaired tube was installed and inflated.

I only had the shit gorilla 24hr cure glue.. i used a piece of paper with glue on the tube and put glue on the outside to saturatte it and used some one the outside to "soak it".. I already got a repair tube but in the future i will keep some supergllue on hand My test isnt the same variables cuz i dont have super glue.. god damnit I usually have a 3 pack of dollar tree or harbor freight on deck but not this time. I feel like my attempt is a big fat fail as i dont have instant superglue but. I did. Use duct tape to hold down my gorilla saturated glue. If it doesnt work o well at least i am getting a new tube buy usually i have all this shit on hand already
