Either way he receives value. Early on the value he can receive from an extra joker is much larger. Later on it might feel more needed but if it fails him he just loses. What professor did what calculated risk and used his opportunity earlier while it was a much more valuable and less risk was taken.

The Prof is obviously really damn good at this game, but sometimes he makes plays that I find baffling. 57:30 he takes a gold seal 6 over a red seal steel 10, but almost directly after that he says it's not a big deal if his money gets set to 0 from playing high card against the boss. If money is so trivial at that point in the run, why take the gold seal card over the red seal steel card? If spending $10 to re-roll the boss and save over $350 isn't worth it, then why is scoring $3 more per round worth it? I do love being enrolled at Balatro University, and Prof has made me a much better player, but that was a weird one to me.

I think it has more to do with the fact that red seal kings are the priority and getting tarot cards is more difficult without having discards. the 6 provides a free 3 dollars every round, while the steel red seal 10 causes a little more chaos in the score for the run he is particularly attempting. Long story short, 3 strength cards is harder than 1 death card. that's my take at least.

If you noticed the boss he would have rolled into was face cards were disabled. This boss could have been fatal if he was not able to reroll it. We would have needed a boss disabled joker and he didn’t have enough money to guarantee getting one. All in all right call was made. Well done professor! 🎉

I think it's because winning too fast leaves hands on the table and lowers the number of opportunities to level High Card in the long run. He only has one steel card in his deck at that point, and I suspect he took that one because it's a blue seal (just kidding, there's also a steel Queen). And in fact, in the next ante, he plays the steel cards almost immediately so he doesn't win too fast.

The other thing is 6s are good for Sixth Sense, and having Consumable Spectrals in a slot is very powerful

I might have missed it, but is there any particular reason not to have one of the Blueprints copy the Sixes, turning 4 50/50 chances into 3 guaranteed procs per hand?
