I don't think there was anyone better than Level 42 live 1980 - 1987 ish. It's easy to forget what an amazing drummer Phil is too. As musicians we all show boat it up front and forget about the guy on the pots and pans behind us keeping it all going.

Been a L42 fan since 83. Could write a book on them. But rather just listen to the music. Especially the live stuff 😊

@@petermeichan3160 What's the story about Paul Crockford? I have seen many interview with Phil and I was always of the opinion the brothers left at the same time (roughly) but for different reasons. This is how I always thought of it, Phil was just dismayed at the move to more pop sound as well as things as the use of sequencers. Boon's departure was about his health.
@petermeichan31602 ай бұрын
@@steevidrums Crockford was all about money, when Level 42 first came together it was all about the music, yes its became more poppy and Phil ( as the group was his band ) didn't like that, crockford got in Marks ear and convinced him the brothers didn't fit the groups look any more, and of course cutting phil out of the final mixing was the last straw, thats how i understand it, i never brought another record after Running in the Family
@steevidrums2 ай бұрын
@@petermeichan3160 I gather he was their manager? Paul Crockford I mean. Phil was such a great drummer, and while Gary Husband and Pete Ray Biggin are amazing drummers too, there’s a certain vibe to Phil’s playing which just completes it for me. Boon also a great player, sorta under used in the band but would make every part count.

Last Wednesday they played this iconic Jazz Funk number in Paradiso. They brought the house down! After a breathtaking 'second half' of the show (after the acoustic break) they played Hot Water, Starlight, Heathrow, Love Games... Hot water was played in the vain of the Shep Pettibone remix (inclusing one of the most legendary funk breaks ever.) . The intro to Love Games was something else: Mark played the Bass beyond funk. Level 42:32 years on the road and still getting better all the time

I remember a 1982 concert in Holland, i took the wrong entrance door. i thought "strange no folks here?" Anyway we went to the bar to take a drink. 4 guys were also sitting on the stools, talking english. I asked "are you the band members of Level 42"? Mike confirmed. Untill that moment i never had seen a picture of them. Friendly guys. Which door we took? The food and beverage door!!!!! 30 minutes later on the fan's came in.
