I bought this album over 30 years ago. This band was way ahead of its time. Slap bass player...one of the best. I'm 76 now. But this song rocks to this day. Enjoy it guys. Rock your world !

To this day, I am a die-hard Level 42 fan, and have been since this song. The entire album, "World Machine," which contains this track, is stellar. Lots of mentions here for "Lessons in Love" & "Children Say," both of which are excellent. Some of their most interesting stuff is earlier in their repertoire, including an album produced by members of EWF. Thanks for giving this some well-deserved love!

Back in '85 I was 20. I'd pretty much only pogo'd to punk music. Then Level 42 came along and I danced as if on a cloud. Wish I was 20 again. Then, way in the future, the internet brought you 3 chaps reacting to Level 42. Awesome. thank you! One last thing: I'm currently playing an online version of Command & Conquer. One of my bases is about to reach Level 42. Peachy

In the 80s I only ever saw the video, never heard it played on the radio where I lived (Florida). The video really stuck with me as well as the song and it was only last year that I pulled up the video again here on YT and decided to check out their other music, none of which I had ever heard. And what a journey it has been! This group was and IS freaking awesome! The talent, the skill! I especially love their early stuff, before this song/album. Mark King is the KING!😍

@Allencartercomix5 ай бұрын
This was, and still is my #1 pop song from the first time I heard it and saw the video at 5 years old. An irresistible riff, harmonies between bassist and lead vocalist Mark King ( who sings the verses) and keyboardist and second vocalist Mike Lindup (who handles the choruses in his heavenly falsetto). I definitely agree that this tune needs to be appreciated more. It peaked in the top ten (#7 for two weeks on the Billboard Hot 100) in late May and early June 1986, along with their second US hit "Lessons in Love" (#12) in 1987, but they disappeared from the US charts after that and mostly performed in their native UK, Holland, and Germany. Sadly, "Something About You" doesn't get mentioned with other '80s tunes like "Take on Me" and "Come on Eileen," but when reactors such as yourselves discover (or re-discover) it, you realize just how great it is. You should definitely check out their early live instrumentals like "Mr. Pink," "43," and "The Pursuit of Accidents," as well as their early songs like "Love Games," "Weave your Spell," and "The Sun goes down (Living it Up).

There was a slightly longer version that really accentuated the bass, and they used to play it on the R&B station in St. Louis back in the day. Not sure if that happened elsewhere, but this was a huge record in STL, for everyone. It crossed a lot of genres, pop, R&B, college new wave rock, adult contemporary. Seemed like every station was playing this cut.
