So many negative comments :( It's easy to criticise, not so easy to actually make something yourself. Show me an open world that YOU have made that's better than a Ubisoft one, then we'll talk. It takes thousands of people at least a year to make each of these games, and all anybody can do is whine, rather than recognising the extraordinary amount of work that goes into each game. Not to mention that each game is expected to be bigger and with better graphics than the one before, so the developers are basically constantly learning on the job and pushing their limits. They have high expectations placed on them and not much time to do it. It's understandable that there's sometimes repetition or bugs. Why not focus on the incredible amount they get right, not the few things they get wrong?

@speedyy287 жыл бұрын
Simple, you can go high res- low res easily. Try to go low res- high res and its not that great. Devs start with insanly high res, insane shadows, similations, and extreme amount of polygons on a model. Game devs optimise the game at the very end, its one of the things they do last. Sometimes they don't have an optimised version of the game yet so they show what they have, and then they downgrade it so that majority of players can play it
@Titi-pu2hl7 жыл бұрын
But why dont they let players with good PCs play the game as it was in the demo ?? I know it will make the game very heavy, they can just let the option to download it as an HD pack, just like skyrim did.(even if it was a shitty hd pack) I really dont understand why the devs dont let the players the option to try it, it will be good marketing if some people with insane PCs do videos of the game at its maximum potential. Its a pain in the ass to look at Witcher 3 and The Division demos and see how they actually look in game even with maximum settings....
@ArnauNau7 жыл бұрын
Bc it is insanely heavy (it takes so much resources that you couldn't play in it, doesn't matter the good the pc is) and it's own engine couldn't run the whole game without optimisation/downgrading

@coolhunter37 жыл бұрын
Seems more like you are confused about what those positions entail. The guy in the video that's plotting down flats and stuff is the level designer, the person who modeled, textured, etc those flats is the environment artist. It's gonna be a bit different per studio but as someone who worked as a level designer i can tell you this video is pretty accurate. Environment artists do not build the level, that's the designers job. Environment artists make the props that eventually replace the placeholders the designer put in.

The sole reason of Downgrade are the Hardwares of the Consoles. Everything is built on PC and then ported to run in console H/W but at times the development to porting it on console is inconsistent and so although most of our PC's can run those but a typical console h/w just can't so they degrade it and since the console market is a large portion of their profit so they have to create games that are on par with the PC counterparts if not better...because nobody would then buy a game on console if it looks and runs better at PC a thousands folds and they sure can't loose console customers. The Only option that they are left as a Company (Profit) is to degrade it to the level console h/w can sufficiently run it.

Thats a pretty interesting interface for the Snowdrop engine. Whenever I'm designing levels I usually model all my 3d assets but I wonder if that still holds true in the Professional level design world, or are these level designers given pre-made assets and given the task to layout the entire space. I still have a lot to learn in order to get to this level
@PolygonAcademy5 жыл бұрын
I actually used to work at ubisoft montreal on farcry and watchdogs as a level artist. People talk about graphics downgrade (I understand the point of this video is graphic design / level design) but what bugs me far more is to make a decent "competitive" game and stick with P2P which fucks up the experience. For Honor had the capability of being extremely fun and well made although they decided to put all that work and implement a fucking cheap multiplayer system which ruins the entire experience. Spend a little extra on your investment and get some servers instead of cheaping out on a system that makes a multiplayer game buggy and laggy.
