I like the fact you enunciate well. You can almost hear the punctuation of what you are reading. Great videos as well. Love your take on Grimdark and the fact you aren't afraid to cut a corner here and there.

Thankyou! 👍 The enunciation is a perk of coming from the home counties, I do find myself getting a little lazy some times though!

Thanks for that tutorial mate! I was one of those who asked if you could go into detail of your basing when you did the grim dark primaris. So thanks again, this is really helpful and inspiring!

Bases are, by far, one of the most important parts of the miniature, and new painters tend not to care much about them. Very cool techniques here. I like experimenting sometimes, but I always end up going back to the old trusty sand and pa with a lil grass :)
@SprayBlackStudios
@SprayBlackStudios 3 жыл бұрын
Agreed! Basing can be so important for setting the feel of the miniature. Sand and paint was always my #1 but these pigments are a big of a game changer for me! I am also really enjoying the GW and Vallejo textures at the moment!

I heard the saying "A model isn't done until the base is also done" and it's absolutely true. Definitely spend a good deal of effort on the bases, they are part of the model and part of its story too.

I found just wrapping a little bit around the end of your pole (the styrene in this case) then having them next to a bit of coiled up wire is enough to create the effect that it's attached to a post.

I learned that using some airbrush thinner will also fix your pigment quite nicely. I think it helps retain the dusty look
@SprayBlackStudios
@SprayBlackStudios 3 жыл бұрын
I've tried a couple of airbrush thinners but never found them to fix it in place that strongly, maybe just not using the right one

Not to sound mean but for me anyway, I can't seem to get citadel products to deliver the results I want. To me, they are garbage. Over time I've found several brands outperform and even though some are difficult to get, I'd rather be patient and wait for deliver than spend 10 min running down to my local mini store. Vallejo, Ammo by Mig, Abteilung 502, Wilder,VMS, Tamiya, and Pro Acryl. They all bring a little something different and work together to help elevate your minis or models. Thanks for a great and informative video!

Pigments are great ive made washes out of them before as well to get into hard to each areas :) My go to products for everything to do with minis are Ak Interactive, Vallejo or Scale75

@@SprayBlackStudios What country are you living in? I only have the blue and brown set but they are amazing, it took a couple of weeks for the place I ordered them from to get them in. The brown set is amazing! and very useful for many things, alot of deep dark and bright colours very strong :)

have you ever used pigments on top of the citadel crackle paint before? I'm wanting to do some reddy/brown style bases for my Black templar as I feel it will look best against the armour. I really would like to use some pigments, but I was going to use some citadel crackle paint as well. I guess i could just use some pigments to add some realism and colour variation later on.
@SprayBlackStudios

To be honest I've struggled to find a pigment that matches the Games Workshop technical paint in colour. The newer pots of Martian Ironearth and Ironcrust seem to have more of a pinkish colour rather than an orange tone and this is pretty hard to replicate.

Sadly it's very difficult if you are using it for gaming, I've found white spirit works best for me but unfortunately does deaden them down a little.

I've had mixed luck with chalk pastels, the last set I had were all a bit waxy and ended up clumping when I tried this. Otherwise this is a great tip.

Isn't the base part of the Miniature? Imo, sand and paint detracts from the mini.
