Keep in mind: Cameras will only prevent certain types of criminals from attacking your house. Addicts or professional criminals will not care about your cameras, because a simple disguise (scarf etc.) will make them completely unrecognizable on the footage. They will walk right through the field of view, because having them on footage will not help to catch them. If they have no criminal record, they don`t have to hide their face at all, since the police will have nothing to compare your footage against to link a name/address to the person you recorded. And if they have a criminal record, a simple scarf/mask will prevent them from being recognized. Don`t get me wrong, you should have cameras to scare away "low level" thiefs who only search for easy opportunities. But more clever or professional criminals will much more look at the type of locks, doors, windows... the physical security of your home. A camera will, in most cases, not prevent or solve a burglary. It will only document it! So i would invest in a good doorbell, one good camera to monitor if someone is messing with your car, and everything else would, if you are on abudget, get good dummys. I would much rather invest the money in physical security. Additional tip:: Kepp a list of your valuables together with photos of them! If police gehs this, they will compare it to anything found when they arrest other criminals in the area and they might even search at known points in your area, where stolen goods are sold. The chance of identifying your stuff is in most cases higher than the chance to identify the thief from CCTV.

You are missing another big point - camera is an early warning for you that someone is out there. You don't have to know who specifically to get yourself ready.

I get a kick out of people who walk in front of my house and try to cover there faces. I can zoom down the block a get a really good picture of their faces. Motion sensores they can't see are great. If someone steps in my yard I'm going to know about it. My father is a Vietnam vet and always told me when I was little about the element of surprise. Back then I didn't know what the hell he was talking about. Why let someone surprise you when you can be ready and surprise them instead. One of many . Dad's are awesome. A couple of good rottys are great too .

Remember most cameras run off power and record from your internet. My first camera would be on the power box of your house.

Security and Nest doorbell are mutually exclusive... Worrying about the guy whose going to steal your TV while ignoring the system that's going to steal your freedom by using a Nest cam that sends all your data to a company that will sell it or give it to the govt is just myopic.
