Hi Turf, yes, this is what I'm needing to do with my sunjoe now. I am trying to be patient and wait until next month to work on problem spots and reseeding/overseeding, and I have a few questions: 1. At the edges of my yard, where I have edged with a trimmer, it all looks like nothing but weeds growing now. how do I fix that? 2. I have a 3x3 patch of weeds growing on a corner of my yard where my son's basketball hoop used to be; how do I remove the weeds to start grass? 3. what are you spreading on your yard to start your lawn ( dirt, compost, top soil, sand, peat)? I have 4 bales of Peat, can I use that? 4. I have holes and trails all over my once level back yard, due to ground squirrels- how to fix? thank you.

I laid zoysia sod under a shade tree in my front & there are gaps between some of the sod blocks. Will this method of spreading top soil to fill in the gaps work?

Zoysia generally spreads pretty slowly. It being a warm-season lawn top dressing with sand would probably work better. I have a video coming on that in a couple of weeks that should help you. Also making sure it gets enough sunlight is critical as well. Thanks for watching 🌱

@@ivanov568 If you look up Dallas's average frost date, it's around Nov 24th. So if you have a cool season grass, I say you have plenty of time. But if you have a warm season grass, it's probably slowing down on its growth rate by now, which means id wait until late spring if I were you.

Since dirt is organic matter, won't it just break down after not too long and the uneven spots then come right back?

@@TurfTherapy Not really because the layers and layers and multiple feet of dirt have usually been established overtime whereas adding new layers to fill in the hole will certainly settle as that new matter breaks down. Now if you’re using a mixture of topsoil, sand and compost then that would be a different story as that would certainly be much better than just dirt alone.

One doesn't need to have gone to school to understand basics of organic matter just like I don't need to own a landscaping company to be good at cutting my lawn. Certainly if someone wants to flatten a lawn with soil that's fine, I would never tell someone not to if that's what they want to do. Just simply pointing out one of the cons of using only soil to do so. I think Ryan Knorr at one point might have even had something in one of his videos about the same topic. It's okay to hear other opinions on a subject even if you don't agree with them.

Soooo. You must have missed the part of where I said that this was left over "mutterboden" which is why I asked if you actually watched the video. The reason I questioned your education on the matter is because "dirt" synonymous with "soil" is defined as - "made up of two distinct types of material: minerals (the main ingredient) and much smaller amounts of organic matter; that is, living things and their decaying remains" refuting what you came on here and initially stated "dirt being organic matter. Therefore your position on assuming what my soil profile is and how "topsoil" is organic matter that will just breakdown is incorrect. To your point i wouldn't use compost to level a lawn because the organic mater is so high that the diminishing returns would not be worth while i.e - breaking down at an accelerated rate revealing the holes that was attempted to be fixed. Although I am not defensive on this matter what would it matter especially when you came to my channel spewing misinformation or rudely challenging my logic. Especially when i addressed the issue of sinkage over time in the video you so called "watched". You should probably do a bit more research yourself buddy. I think you just wanted to be heard Karen and thats ok because today I have time.
